"We have a finished basement and a crawl space in the storage area of our basement.  We have found after large rain storms recently water has been increasing in our crawl space. After one storm we found over 6 inches of water above the gravel in the crawl space and purchased a temporary pump to pump out the water, discarded the plastic vapor barrier with concern of mold growing on it and began to see seepage through the foundation wall to the basement. 
In order to find a solution we scheduled four appointments with Angie's list highly regarded basement waterproofing contractors.  We were surprised to find that each contractor provided different solutions ranging in cost from $13,814 to $1,950.  We were impressed with Mr. Norfolk's honesty and straight forward approach.  He noted that he could do some of the solutions provided by other contractors with piping systems to a sump pump but suggested to start with a more cost effective solution of just adding a sump pump to the crawl area and replacing the current basement sump pump that was 27 years old.  If additional solutions were needed in the future he could preform them but why spend the extra money at this time if not necessary. The work was performed on February 1st and took two workman 3.5 hours to complete.  The workman explained how the system worked and asked that we please follow up if we had any questions.  The only area I could see improvement was clean up as after they cleaned up I had to again sweep the work area and vacum the carpets covered by their drop cloths. There was also debris and concrete mix left on the driveway.

"The owner of the company showed up to do the estimate on time and was very patient and clearly knowledgeable as we walked through the house and covered my list.  He offered feedback and made suggestions along the way.  At the end of the walk-through he told me how many man hours he thought everything would take and quoted his hourly rate.  This turned out to be a good estimate.
On the day of the work 2 workers showed up (on time).  I walked through my list with them and they made their own list and asked several good, clarifying questions along the way.  Once they started working they were very efficient and didn't "loaf around" (which I was glad to see since I was paying hourly).  I had to make a few trips to Home Depot to get things I had forgotten prior to their arrival.  There was one item I couldn't quite figure out so one of the workers offered to come to Home Depot with me.  This was a big help.
They did a great job on everything and we are very pleased with the results.  My only  MINOR complaint would be that they could have taken a little more care to mitigate messes (putting plastic down before drilling into sheetrock, etc.).  Again, this is minor and can be chalked up to the fact that they were working hourly and I can clean up (for free), allowing them to spend their time on the "skilled" portion of the work.
