"This business cares. My wife and I hired Sustainergy to update the attic insulation and bathroom ventilation in our 1960's home. We were very impressed by the professionalism and energy that Lindsey showed at the initial site visit, as well as the timeliness, optimism, and tidiness of the crew that performed the work. The crew put down floor coverings on our hardwood and throughout their work areas, and did a great job of cleaning up each day. Sustainergy was very responsive to questions and was easy to schedule. Their business practice as an employee-owned cooperative also impressed me. I used to be a remodeling professional - everything Sustainergy did reminded me of best practices for customer service and good business operations. We won't hesitate to hire them for future updates to our home, and I'm pleased to recommend Sustainergy to anyone looking to increase the energy efficiency of their home."

"Absolute EXCELLENCE all around! Air Authority was professional from beginning to end. We shopped several HVAC companies for our new AC/Furnace. We received 5 quotes. Air Authority was the most professional and thorough of all the companies that visited our home for a quote. We worked with Eric and he consistently went above and beyond with helping us to determine the best unit for our home. He has excellent communication skills and was always reliable throughout the entire process. Other companies had recommended much larger units but Eric was able to help us see why we did not need a bigger, more expensive system. The install was on-time, as promised, and went smoothly! The team was extremely professional and courteous. They took time to clean up afterwards and did a fabulous job. It has been about 3 months now and we already see a tremendous drop in our electric bill. The only regret I have is not doing it 5 years ago! I highly recommend Air Authority! You will NOT be disappointed."

"Not prompt at returning phone calls. Rescheduled after technician didn't arrive; I had to call 30 min after scheduled appointment time. After audit was done, still haven't received estimate for work 10 days later."

"I have to question the integrity of this company. This is the 3rd time we have used Arlinghaus in the past year and I still can not say I am thrilled with them. We used them for an a/c repair last August and they have come to do a furnace checkup and now the a/c check. Two different service techs have looked at our system and their opinions of our system varies 180 degrees. The tech we had today was all doom and gloom. Kept telling me the system was old and in poor condition. The tech that checked our system in the fall told us our system was in good shape. Not sure which tech to believe. Is one of them just trying to make a sale! Is one of them not accurately maintaining our system?? Who knows? Next time we need something I think we need to try a different company. I just don’t feel like the techs are on the up and up."

"They do a good job with a professional approach.  They have a good engineering staff.  We had our furnace put in about 3 years ago, its a hydro and we get the heat out of the ground, they had a good engineering aspect for it.  They even had a well digger.  Whenever they send a technician out, he is very knowledgable.  They fixed a problem on the whole house generator that another company had put in.  They come out in the spring and fall.  I recommend them to others.  We have several rental properties and our own home that they work with.  We have used them for 3 or 4 years."

"The inspection went well, and the report was thorough. It was about a month ago and there have been no surprises since. The only thing that could have made the report better would be including the specifications on what would make something pass. For example, rather than saying the outlet was "too close" to the shower, including the minimum distance required. But overall the inspection went well and he did a great job of ensuring my home was good to buy. <br />"

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Cincinnati, OH

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
