Scott got here very quickly after the call, diagnosed that the problem was in the well, not the house and had the old pump pulled up and replaced in a couple of hours. Turned out that the problem was not with the pump, but 23 years of the pump twisting as it started up had broken on of the wires going down the well to the pump. I felt it was prudent to have a new pump installed rather than hoping the old pump itself wouldn't fail. All in all it was a much more pleasant experience than it could have been."
