One company blew me off after seeing how dirty the vents were after quoting nearly $1000 for their service and replacing my "coils". DustBusters came in a timely manner with their latest technique to clean. Vacuumes with brushes, most other companies use, leave a lot behind and is more work. DustBusters use a air hose system with a massive vacuum tied into the main ducts to keep it brief. Not only did a great job, but for half the cost of the other guys. The tech who came said my "coils" did not need replacing the other company tried selling me (big money). The owner's son came and was very professional and modest. "My basement recently took on water during the March rains. The wall to wall carpeting and pad in the finished portion of the basement had to be removed. Having had Stephen perform some demo work and trash removal in the past, I was already comfortable with his pricing and quality of work. I called Stephen and told him I needed him asap and he was there the next morning. He worked most of the day tearing up the carpet and removing the tack strips. The carpet pad was glued down in some places which made removal more difficult. On top of that, Stephen had to work around a couch, desk, chair, refrigerator and other items. When he finished removing the carpet, I also had Stephen remove 2 futon frames & mattresses, 2 toilets, a glass shower door and some other junk I wanted out of the house. Stephen swept up after all his work and left the place clean. He called me down a couple times to make sure the work he was doing was meeting my expectations. I would highly recommend hiring Stephen for any type of demo or cleanup work. He works hard and clean and he respects your property"

"I chose them because they had the highest number ( and score) of reviews, but after the service was provided I believe those reviews were fabricated. I am a new home owner and decided to try your services. I did not know much about duct or vent cleaning but after what I saw yesterday I decided to do some research online and that is when I realized I did not receive the services I thought I was paying for. Only 1 technician came with a small shop vacuum and a brush, and he was not able to do most of the work because. 1. We had Fibreglass ducts and he said his equipment was not suitable to clean this type of duct and that it would damage it. So he only "vacuumed" the area that his arms could get to, and did not examine the vent for damage or recommend any way to clean or fix the fiberglass. 2. He did not want to take the vent covers off the ceiling because he said he did not want to damage the sheetrock, so I'm not sure how he cleaned them. I think he only sprayed air into and around the vent 3. He didn't have any air filters with him, so I had to go out and try to buy them. They did not have the size I needed so I spent 1 hr driving around looking for them and could not see what he was doing at home. 4. They did not seal any of the vents nor did they have a negative pressure machine. He did not hook up to the main vent and told me he accessed it with a brush through an intake, which means that they did not fully take out all the dust from the main feeder. At first I was ok with his explanation, fine but then after doing research I realized that all he did was stick a brush in the room vent but did not seal the whole system, nor did he take off and clean the main duct. 5. He said he cleaned the dryer vent from Inside and Outside but I did not see any signs of him going outside as it was raining and he would have had to get the machine wet. 6. He had no other equipment other than a shop vacuum with a 4 inch hose. I'm not sure how deep he was able to get with that into the dryer vent. I really feel as if the work performed was not done correctly, and my ignorance was partly to blame. This company certainly did not have the right equipment to do the job and they didn't even use the correct procedure to seal the system to create a vacuum. This was definitely more of a $300 dollar job at most and not $600 dollars like they charged me."

"Sooo....first, Jim is a very nice guy.  However, Jim now works in Nashville during the week and is only home to the Huntsville area on the weekends.
My first impression of him was that he was awesome.  My computer system had crashed because I pulled the plug during a thunder storm before the computer fully shut down which resulted in the computer hanging up.  Jim took my call while in Tennessee and suggested how to fix the system.  For this I am very grateful.

What happened next was I had him come and check my computer to make sure everything was working properly.  He came to my house and spent an hour tweaking it (basically running various checks on the system), for which I paid him $50.  He suggested that my laptop would work much better if I had Windows 7 and increased my RAM up to 4 GB.  He said he could install it for me for (including the RAM) for about $160.  We met the following weekend for the handoff and he loaded Window 7.  When I received the call it was ready, the bill was $227.50.  I was surprised that is was $70 more than quoted, but paid it anyways.  When I asked about the RAM, he mentioned he did not upgrade the RAM and this would be another $60.  I was a little discouraged at that point since I felt like I was being taken advantage of, but the guy is relatively nice, so I said to go ahead and order the RAM.  He did so and the following weekend was supposed to install it.  Due to some personal things in his life, he wasn't able to install it, so I picked it up since I had to go out of town and could use the IT guy at my new location to install it for me.  When we went to install the RAM, the system wouldn't let us do it since my particular type of laptop can only take 2GB of RAM max.  If Jim had gone to the crucial.com website (where he bought my RAM) and entered my computer system on it, it would have told him the max amount of RAM that could be installed on that unit.  He did not do that.  He is supposed to refund my $60 this next weekend.

I think if Jim wasn't burning the candle at both ends by having a job in Tennessee during the week and trying to run this business on the weekends, it would've been a better experience.  Perhaps taking a few extra minutes to SLOW DOWN and write out an estimate of everything he would need for the job including the prices would ensure people know up front how much the repair would/should cost so they can budget accordingly.  I think if he had taken that approach, it might've been a better experience.  So now I am stuck with a laptop that runs slower because Windows 7 uses more memory and a laptop that can't be upgraded to more RAM.  Basically, the last step which cost me almost $300 was not necessary.  If you need something simple done like coming back from a system crash, he would be okay to use.  Otherwise, for the bigger jobs, I recommend he provide a written estimate with the items he plans to do.

UPDATE:  After posting this review, I received a number of text messages from Jim commenting on the bad review.  I understand he is upset, but harassing someone about a review is not a good way to go.  My review was honest and not meant to be mean, but to let those that use Angie's list get what they pay for...an honest review of someone's experience."

"I had a lot of additional cost. It ended up at $1500. They only cleaned three, for the big deal. And then, I had a thing that they put in to make sure that the air stays clean. They said I had a humidifier on my furnace and they said that it had to come off. And then, they said you can get a much better one and then they kind of disappeared and they didn't talk about it or really sit down and have a conversation with me. I'm not even sure why they had to take it off or what they did."
