"Sila was one of three companies I contacted for estimates on replacing my oil-fired systems with heat pumps. I have a boiler and two forced air furnaces, so the work would be extensive. I contacted Sila because their reviews were favorable, they sell Carrier products (which I was leaning toward), and they sell high velocity systems, which I felt might be a good option in the older part of the house where I don't have ducts. I was prepared to really go over the things that work well with ducts in the house, things that don't, and what my general asks were for the systems. The salesman was pleasant enough, but seemed completely uninterested in how I felt my current systems were and what my goals were. I asked for a price on two levels of Carrier (Performance and Inifinity) for the existing forced air systems, and then price me out for a reasonable high velocity system. The sales person who came out was pretty perfunctory and didn't take good notes while we spoke. I didn't think he was really that engaged in my concerns about the routing of high velocity ducting and placement--he just told me how it would have to be. While sometimes that's how things work, I don't think he really addressed my concerns with having all outlets in the ceiling only in the lower level, which would potentially leave me with lots of heat hanging around the ceiling. However, the larger issues were that the bids did not match the requirements for the project. First, he sent only the high velocity bid and nothing for the other systems. When i asked, he sent the other estimate, but only for the Carrier Infinity, omitting that I specifically asked for a bid on doing those systems with a Performance line that would allow me to use my existing non-communicating thermostats. In addition, their bid was the most expensive and their attention to detail seemed poor for a $40,000+ job. Spending less than an hour with me and sending lackluster boilerplate bids (with all kinds of language that should not have been in the bid, like references to other brands, etc.). A bid should be custom for the buyer and tailored for match what I'm asking for. This lack of attention to detail and customer focus lost Sila this job."

"John is a good man, with experience to prove it. We have hired him twice now, to sort out a flooded basement (care of the City of Baltimore & their contractor, Spiniello), and then to retrofit all the horizontal pipes in our row home. Not only did he and his team solve our issues, but they made it look good. For a 120 year old row home, you can imagine the plumbing has been subject to a number of revisions, so it was a real pleasure to see them cut it all out (pipes corroded down to a pin hole), and replace every water bearing line with a singular, clear & straightforward system of logically placed cut-off valves, t-joints and what-have-you.
Because we had already had him out to solve a 1400 dollar flood problem the city blamed us for (and which later turned out to be their fault but they are not willing to pay for), he offered us this super low rate to get all the rest* upgraded (*all the main branches had been upgraded already, namely the verticals to the second floor). Johns original quote was for 1250 to do all the horizontals, so since i had him there i asked if he could run gas to our stove. Because of our recent purchases from him and since he was already there, he ran all the gas and got me two (all you need is one) gas cut off valves for an additional 150 bucks.
Home Depot quoted me 500 for the same job.
John's number resides firmly in my phone.

"When installing the hot water bib the plumber drilled thru the wall and hit 2 wires. This was something I asked him to do while he was there. A check for wires prior to drilling in a hole would have saved me hundreds of dollars"

"EXCELLENT MASTER PLUMBER!!! Robert replaced my 23 year-old water heater earlier this month (12/01/17). I wasn't experiencing any problems with the water heater other than the facts that it was old, inefficient, and I was on "borrowed time" as far as the life expectancy for water heaters go. After completing a request on Home Advisor, Robert contacted me. I told him what I needed to replace, he gave me an estimate and we scheduled a date for the work to be completed. Robert was prompt. efficient, respectful and personable. He has a good sense of humor, too. The price he quoted/charged was fair and reasonable. I am more than satisfied with his work. As other customers have indicated, Robert is a very knowledgeable and experienced Master Plumber. (His registrations/certifications/licenses are current and compliant.) After he replaced my hot water heater, I asked him to check a water leak that I discovered in my basement. He investigated the leak and confirmed that the source of the leak was a pipe in my home fire sprinkler system (installed in 1992 when the house was built.) My next questions were, "Can you repair it? And if so, when?" Robert advised me on what would be required to make the repair and he gave me a very fair estimate for the cost for materials and labor. Two days ago he came out and repaired the leak in my home fire sprinkler system. Again, he and his apprentice/helper were very professional, efficient, respectful, personable and on point with doing the job properly. The location of the leak in the copper pipe was not in an easy-to-get-to spot; however, Robert was able to adjust, adapt and get the job done. He's a true professional. I will definitely use R.W. Burton's services again whenever I need a plumber. Great plumbers are hard to find. Robert is a great and exceptional plumber! He's a keeper!"

FAQs for gas piping projects in Harwood, MD

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
