"Sometimes you just get lucky. We got super lucky when we hired D. Rohde to fix our A/C. Our technician Mike A. showed up with a helper/trainee, explained the estimate fees and then went to work. In less than 10 minutes he was able to identify the defective part, return to the truck for a new replacement part, and then install the new item. In under 30 minutes our main central A/C was back up and running. The second (upstairs) central air unit took another 10 minutes to diagnose and then about 40 minutes of grueling work in a super-hot attic to drain out the overflow tray, cut, blow-out the drain line, and repair the drain. Once drained, the unit is again working perfectly. It is great when a technician shows up and really is an expert. Mike A. is such an expert and also extremely friendly. Brandon, the assistant/trainee was also great and someday will make a great technician using all the knowledge learned from Mike's expert tutelage. I will recommend these guys to everyone I meet."

"I contacted several local companies when I wanted to get estimates for central A/C installation. I heard about JSP through the list serve at my place of employment and since the review was very positive I added them to my list. Four companies came out, one company never returned my calls to follow up for the quote, another suggested a system that I knew wouldn't work in my home (not enough attic space) and two companies followed through. JSP was one of those companies and what made the difference were the following: 1) JSP stands behind it's estimate and product. Your installation won't wind up being $1,000 more because of X, Y & Z - when they give you an estimate - that's the estimate. 2) They are THOROUGH. Not only did the technician take time to ask my my needs, my family's lifestyle and walk through and around the outside of my home - he thought about aesthetics as well. 3) The estimate is provided on the spot, hand-written, and explained in detail in case there are any questions. You don't have to chase them down to get the estimate or ask your last minute questions. 4) They are meticulous. Before beginning work they send out someone to do a walk-through to make sure every i is dotted and t is crossed BEFORE work begins. 5) Staff. THIS is where I cannot say enough. My situation was not the normal situation of someone calling to have Central A/C installed - there were extenuating circumstances and Ellen not only listened but she remembered, EVERY time that I spoke to her. I called JSP in February so the timing wasn't urgent and I made it clear that I had time . . . if Ellen and I went three weeks without speaking because of vacations, holidays, or because I just didn't get to it - she remembered me as if we had spoken the day before. I didn't feel like a "customer" - I felt like part of their family, as corny as that sounds. My calls were answered the same day, even if they weren't pressing and even after 5 pm. John, the owner, came out himself and spoke with me about my options as I looked to finalize what was discussed in February. I've never had such amazing customer service for something household related. You'd expect that when going to a spa, a hotel or buying a car - but in this case, they went above and beyond. I really cannot recommend JSP enough. If you want to work with a company that cares about your needs, preferences and your family - they're the ones to go with. "David spent three to four hours (over a two day period) at my home teaching me about my central AC system and fixing the problems. He was professional, explained everything he did, and answered every question I had. I anticipated that I would have to pay a fortune for the visit. The charge was extremely reasonable. "I needed an electrician to install a 240 volt outlet quickly for an electric dryer coming on Monday. And didn’t know who to use, so went on Angie's List and found Ohms Electrical Services, who responded back within a few hours of calling and was able to come the next day. Lloyd was the electrician, who came and did a great job. He knows his stuff and if very personable and professional. He also saw work a past electrician had done that was not to code and explained why and that is was a safety issue, so will be having him back soon to fix that as well as other projects. Definitely, would recommend and very reasonable price."

"Sooo....first, Jim is a very nice guy.  However, Jim now works in Nashville during the week and is only home to the Huntsville area on the weekends.
My first impression of him was that he was awesome.  My computer system had crashed because I pulled the plug during a thunder storm before the computer fully shut down which resulted in the computer hanging up.  Jim took my call while in Tennessee and suggested how to fix the system.  For this I am very grateful.

What happened next was I had him come and check my computer to make sure everything was working properly.  He came to my house and spent an hour tweaking it (basically running various checks on the system), for which I paid him $50.  He suggested that my laptop would work much better if I had Windows 7 and increased my RAM up to 4 GB.  He said he could install it for me for (including the RAM) for about $160.  We met the following weekend for the handoff and he loaded Window 7.  When I received the call it was ready, the bill was $227.50.  I was surprised that is was $70 more than quoted, but paid it anyways.  When I asked about the RAM, he mentioned he did not upgrade the RAM and this would be another $60.  I was a little discouraged at that point since I felt like I was being taken advantage of, but the guy is relatively nice, so I said to go ahead and order the RAM.  He did so and the following weekend was supposed to install it.  Due to some personal things in his life, he wasn't able to install it, so I picked it up since I had to go out of town and could use the IT guy at my new location to install it for me.  When we went to install the RAM, the system wouldn't let us do it since my particular type of laptop can only take 2GB of RAM max.  If Jim had gone to the crucial.com website (where he bought my RAM) and entered my computer system on it, it would have told him the max amount of RAM that could be installed on that unit.  He did not do that.  He is supposed to refund my $60 this next weekend.

I think if Jim wasn't burning the candle at both ends by having a job in Tennessee during the week and trying to run this business on the weekends, it would've been a better experience.  Perhaps taking a few extra minutes to SLOW DOWN and write out an estimate of everything he would need for the job including the prices would ensure people know up front how much the repair would/should cost so they can budget accordingly.  I think if he had taken that approach, it might've been a better experience.  So now I am stuck with a laptop that runs slower because Windows 7 uses more memory and a laptop that can't be upgraded to more RAM.  Basically, the last step which cost me almost $300 was not necessary.  If you need something simple done like coming back from a system crash, he would be okay to use.  Otherwise, for the bigger jobs, I recommend he provide a written estimate with the items he plans to do.

UPDATE:  After posting this review, I received a number of text messages from Jim commenting on the bad review.  I understand he is upset, but harassing someone about a review is not a good way to go.  My review was honest and not meant to be mean, but to let those that use Angie's list get what they pay for...an honest review of someone's experience."
