"Within 5 minutes after Roy walked in, I knew I was speaking with an expert. He talked me out of wasting money on what I wanted (getting rid of boiler and replying on furnace) telling me about how everyone in the city during -40 degree nights was will freeze and if I keep the boiler I'll be comfy. He also talked me out of choosing a heat pump, saying in Chicago it will cause problems in the dead of winter and then I'll be out of luck. Initial estimate was only to replace the 60 year oil leaky boiler and 40 year old loud AC and furnace. Came in, did the work quickly, and when we were doing final inspection he pointed out where my last remaining original furnace was having problems. Gave me a great price to just get the the last furnace and AC done (AC was 40 years old). I know they won't be the cheapest but if you want someone you can trust who will guide you with his 30 years of experience and teach you the finer details of heating and cooling while delivering quality work, go with Porterhouse. I won't trust anyone else."

Steve is a highly reputable person and explains things easily for people not in the Heating & A/C industry. He is very straight-forward with his quote and doesn't try to pressure or scare you into purchasing something you do not need. Their 10-year labor warranty is also very impressive, and they stand behind their work. A couple of weeks prior, they were able to take a look at my old furnace right away despite having tons of calls due to the first cold snap of the year. The furnace install only took about three hours and was smooth as can be. The installer took great care in making sure floors were protected when hauling equipment in and out of the house. He also made sure to repair some ductwork that extended off the furnace. My suggestion is to make sure you call Home Comfort Systems if you need service or replacement of your furnace and/or air conditioning."

"Jim, Roger, and Joe designed and installed a new furnace and duct work system for our 100 year old home. The ductwork that was in place was from the old coal furnace which had the supplies on the interior and returns on the exterior walls. Jim and Roger needed to redesign the entire system to make it function properly. Jim was very professional, communicative, knowledgeable, and timely with the pricing and installation of the entire job. The price was competitive with other quotes we received, and he assembled his team to begin the work very quickly. The job itself went smoothly with no issues. They were all a joy to work with and really went above and beyond to be sure we were happy with the project. After the project was complete, Jim even came back a few weeks later to be sure the air flow from each duct was accurate with the AC running (it was still too cool outside when the project was completed to run the AC). Best of all, our home is now comfortable for the first time in the 18 years we've lived here. It heats and cools quickly and efficiently, with no hot or cold spots like before. "I did a full HVAC replacement (2 furnaces, 2 AC units) with Shavitz and have nothing but good things to say. First, the quote process with Ken was both informative and honest. The installation team led by Mirek was great. They were efficient, clean and walked me through everything. All piping and ductwork was replaced in the utility closets and at the AC units and all was properly insulated. Their work is clean and clearly shows they know what they are doing. It was a two-day install and Ken made sure to stop by on day 1 to ensure that everything was completed as we discussed. The furnaces are even quieter than expected! It’s too cold to run the AC units and they will need a return visit to get that system activated but so far so good. I would highly recommend this team to anyone."

"Initial estimate was scheduled with no problem, they took the time to answer all the questions I had about the furnace replacement. I received estimated from 6 other HVAC companies and American Family was basically the lowest, but I also felt comfortable with the level of knowledge and experience that was conveyed at the estimate. I scheduled the install and was a bit disappointed that the installers did not show until 10 am or so, but that was not a big problem as I had assumed the job would take all day. The job took longer than expected (past 7pm) and the installer wound up having to replace an entire part of the intake duct work that he did not expect to, but in the end the unit and ductwork looked clean and sturdy and well intalled. The owner called for a follow up appointment and he came in to look at the install and make sure all the settings were correct on the furnace. He answered any questions I had at that time. All in all a good experience with a good company"

"It went well. In addition to the cost of the normal inspection, a compressor saver was installed. I believe this was something that has become available which enables the compressor to not work as hard and should result in a longer life for the unit. Inspection plans vary in cost according to in or out of season and how many inspections are included."

"Cody showed up on time. Very polite young technician Appears to know his job well. He examined the indoor part of the system. Verified what initially indicated to his office that Freon is needed. He indicated that vents need to be cleaned before sealant and Freon can be added. Cost was as follows: $96 diagnostics + $203 for 1.5 pound Freon & labor + $60 another 30 minutes labor + $187 sealant (cost $27 on Amazon) = $545. System is working well. This cost is significantly higher than last service provider."
