"Excellent service from John Moore! This review goes across the board to capture all those involved from the initial call for service to the final step of installation/replacement. We’ve used John Moore Services for several things in the past three months and once again they did not disappoint. Great customer service, pricing, speed and efficiency in installation! Highly recommend!!"

"Cannot recommend these guys enough.  Our AC started cooling poorly (couldn't get it below 80 degrees) due to leak in evaporator coil a couple months after moving in to our house.  We had a home warranty so tried to work through it with their contractors, which went awful.

After deciding to pick our own company, we saw how great the reviews were for The AC Guy and gave them a call.   They came out, and agreed that the coil needed to be replaced and gave us a quote for just replacing the coil, or for replacing the whole system.  There prices were upfront and very reasonable, no bait and switch with a bunch of up charges later. Our home was built with an undersized system and was approaching 11 years old, so we decided to get a full replacement and upgrade to full 5 ton unit (we had a 3.5 ton condenser).

I called Rachel back the next day (Saturday) and told her of our decision.  They were busy on emergency calls, so to get a new system installed they couldn't come out early the next week.  But she did have a technician stop by and give our current R22 system a charge (at no cost!), and that thankfully helped the house cool down over the weekend until they could replace the system.  The tech was on time, profession, and polite.

On the day they came to replace our system, once again they were on time, profession and courteous.  They cleaned up after themselves and left the house in good condition.  AC works great, much better than it did even when it wasn't broken.  Can now keep the house on 70 degrees and it doesn't even have to be running the whole time vs previously it ran constantly and couldn't come close to getting the house that temperature.

Rachel also helped us with getting itemized receipts showing what the work would have be for just the evaporator coil replacement, since of course the home warranty companies never want to pay fair prices.

Overall, I highly recommend this company. Honest people doing honest work.

"Mr. Ferrell first connected his computer to my computer via internet and worked for quite a few hours trying to determine what exactly was wrong. The next day he continued working from his computer for several hours. He determined he would have to have my desktop tower to complete the repair. He and my son met in Huntsville to exchange the tower. He then cleaned up a lot of what was wrong and reloaded Windows 10. He deleted the D: drive which had way too much memory allotted to it. The tower was returned and I plugged it all back together and it is working better than it did when I first purchased it. I would use him again and I recommend him highly to anyone needing computer updating and/or repair. His work is warrantied and he is very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful."

"I called several companies on New Year's Day and they had no service today or their fee to just show up was $400 without repairs. I was housing 3 flood victims of which 2 were recovering from recent serious surgeries and in electric hospital beds that were not working. I was told by 2 companies that the first available appointment would be Thursday the 4th. I called OnTime and explained my situation and their service man, Carlos, was here within an hour. He first checked the main box because one breaker would not come on then checked every outlet in the 4 areas of the house without service until he found the problem which was a GFI outlet & transformer located outside on the front wall of the house. He found the transformer had blown and fried everything in that outlet and cut off all service connected in that line. It took a while to find the problem but he was persistent until he found the source and replaced both the GFI plug and transformer, He then rechecked to be sure all other areas that were off were now working. Carlos was very professional, polite, and explained what had happened. Another company had previously done work for me and installed a new larger electrical box. At that time they had told me they were installing a "whole house surge protector" and Carlos showed me that I did not have any whole house surge protector and that what they had claimed to be a surge protector was no such thing. I was not happy to discover that for 3 years I had thought I had something and did not. Carlos will return next week and install a surge protector to cover the entire house. I am very pleased with the work done today. I am not so pleased with the price, however, the holiday charge was half of what the other companies I had called were charging and I got prompt efficient service that was badly needed under the circumstances. My house guests now have operating hospital beds again and that was a definite priority. We also now have internet and cable which would have been difficult to go without for 4 days."

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Hockley, TX

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
