Within a day I had the estimate with 3 options from low to high, all of which were reasonable the only difference being what equipment I wanted to install. Option #1 and #2 were lower end brands that were less expensive but since the difference in price betwee Option #1 and Option #3 was about $1400, I went to Option #3 which was their top tier brand, Carrier that clearly is an industry leader and trusted brand for longevity. I was installing a SINGLE ductless to cool a standard bedroom size room with a 18,000 BTU unit. The job took a total of about 5 hours since they were mounting the unit in a second floor bedroom and they needed to run the power/refrigerant lines two stories down to the compressor mounted on the wall. Southland is a Mitsubishi diamond dealer so I got full Mitsubishi warranties plus 1 year from Southland of parts and service. The day the installers arrived, on time, it was raining. Jamie and Ricardo used the utmost care to protect my home. They covered the floors, moved and covered the furniture and made sure before they left that I fully understood how to use the remote and operate the equipment. My prior A/C man had recently retired and I was scrambling.... reviewed Angie's List and made several calls. In several cases, I found myself as caller #10 in the queue. Darrow took the call personally, however, and was able to see us late that day. As a businessman I'm used to moving slowly, assessing, considering alternatives, etc. On this occasion there was no time, had to go with my gut. Mirsky Heat & Air really came through. "Never having had air vents cleaned before I was a little unsure of how it actually worked and have nothing to compare this to.  I liked B very much, he was very helpful on the phone and while he provided the service.  He offered good suggestions and tips.  He seemed very professional, arrived when he said he would and finished an hour or so sooner than he thought he would.  He was responsive to questions before during and after and seemed to know what he was doing.  He did spend some time in his truck talking on the phone but I did not feel it impacted the service he provided.
The amount of dust raised by this activity drove me out of the house for over an hour.  We all developed bloody noses over the next few days although I ran the ventilating fan for well over two hours.  I am assuming that this is a normal part of having vents vacuumed out with a giant hose but I was not prepared for it!  I don't think that this was the fault of the service provider but it would have been nice to know before hand which is why I am posting this here.
The price was high but not out of the range of what other providers quoted to me and seems to me to be appropriate given other quotes.  I give $$ a B only because 3 days after I had the work done there was a deal for the same work for about $300.
