"The crew did the job, digging up and replacing 40 ft of main water line from the city line to the house, including installation of a pressure reducing valve. Overall COST was pretty expensive for labor considering the PEX tubing for the water line was the pretty much the only parts needed minus the pressure valve. I realize they go by a book that determines cost before work is actually done, though and I agreed to it. Kinda hard to get other estimates when you are in a pickle and need water in your home going asap during the holidays. Job got done and the 2 workers were nice guys. One complaint is I asked if there was a Veteran's Discount and they did include it but it was LESS THAN a 3% discount off the subtotal. Taking a star off for this and another for high labor cost."

"APH&C came originally to repair a leaking internal sewer pipe that had flooded a basement in an approximately 90-year-old downtown house. They were called out after hours, came promptly, and made arrangements to return next day. The water service had already been turned off at the street. Two men returned on time, fixed the leak, and began work on installing a replacement water heater. As is common with old houses, problems were soon encountered: the chase (vent) had been installed backward. They worked steadily on the job for several days. In the midst of this, the basement flooded again from a new leak; thereby, establishing the need for a full redo of the old interior sewer pipes (iron) and a modification to the exterior clean outs and connections. Despite APH&C's heavy existing workload, they continued on with this new work. Once again an old house problem turned up: the back bathroom had no vent. Fixing it required putting in two new clean outs/connections. In the process they also repaired a leaking hose bib installed in the back wall of the house. Despite the problems encountered, there was no change to the original estimates. Given the state of the sewer lines in front, they also checked (camera) the sewer line going to the back house and on to the alley. It's pipes proved to have several offset connections and some obstructions. That work will be done later. I was impressed by the willingness of the workers to answer questions and explain plumbing facts. The lead plumbers carefully instructed the apprentices on tips and problems. They treated both their fellow workers, myself, and the tenants with consideration. They took care to protect the interior surfaces of the house and to clean up after themselves. With a few exceptions, they were remarkably free of both a "smooth marketer" and bullying attitudes--more so than other large companies I've dealt with. They did all they could to keep the tenants comfortable. I was also impressed by their ability to fit this constantly expanding job into their existing workload and do it during the Xmas holiday season (the job ran from Dec. 10 to Dec. 26, 2019. They promptly supplied me with copies of all permits and maintained a good relationship with the city inspectors. Overall, at least ten men worked on the job, of whom JJ and MIck McG were especially outstanding--for their attitude toward the clients, their fellow workers, and their company. APH&C keeps in touch with its customers by phone and by e-mail. I did feel a little bombarded by the e-mails, wishing for instance, that they wouldn't mail me to say a technician was on the way even as I was called with the same message. I also was a bit confounded by the number of e-mails from the billing department. That problem was resolved by my requesting one e-mail listing all the final charges, which was cheerfully supplied. Yes, I got grouchy as the work multiplied, but they didn't, at least not with me. Their training system is good."

"Taz is our go-to contractor, because they are problem-solvers, detail-oriented, and just generally do a terrific job on both large and small projects. At our house (at different times) Taz has done structural work for us; fully renovated our kitchen; installed a pocket door on a tiny 1/2 bathroom; fixed the walls and floor in a formerly useless closet; and, tore out a huge mess of a mechanical room, turning it into useful, attractive storage space. They deliver on time (including amazingly short timeframes) and on budget (as much as any contractor can be, given the fluctuation in material costs over the past few years). They do a terrific job of minimizing mess and displacement for the homeowner and pets. Would never use anyone else but Anthony and his talented crew. He may sometimes cost more than other contractors, but you get what you pay for - you may find cheaper, but you will NOT find better. And when Anthony does the work, he stands behind it, while others don't."

"Was in need of plumbing work and repair that was part of a water heater failure that also caused damage. Called and asked if they service our area, they said they did, and I asked to have an estimate. After several calls, we succesfully arranged for the plumber to visit, and Jorge & Brad arrived as scheduled. Both Jorge & Brad seemed knowledgeable and responsive. They said there would be no charge for the estimate and they would prepare it for me to receive by the following week via email. More than a week later, no estimate had I seen. Had to make multiple phone calls to find out where the estimate was. After more than a week of phone calls & promises of return calls that they never fulfilled, the person answering the phone (Karesse) said that Jorge had sent the estimate to a "VP for approval." To my surprise, I got a phone call the next day, but it was just Karesse again to say that they were looking into the matter and were going to get to the bottom of where that estimate could be. This sounded good, but resulted in nothing at all working with Roadrunner. After another week had gone by, more phone calls resulted in being told the same thing again and again, with no one stepping up to be responsible nor actually get the estimate to me. I requested to speak to a manager and was told no one was available to speak with me. I asked for a manager to call me and put a condition on it, "if they actually care" to fulfill on having our business and doing what they said they would do. Already a month went by without the estimate, and the last time I spoke with Roadrunner, all I got was one last phone call from Karesse saying that this was important for them to resolve so they would call the next day. I never heard from Roadrunner that next day nor ever again and never received an estimate. It is clear they do not value customers and do not know what integrity is nor what it is to fulfill on the basics of being reliable service providers in our world. Not recommended as reliability to deliver on services and customer care are not what they are up to."

A dryer vent allows warm, moist air from inside the clothes dryer unit to escape to the outdoors. Without one, the warm air and moisture remain in your home, leading to mold, rot, and higher cooling bills over time. This project requires cutting a hole in the exterior of your home, so you should hire a professional contractor or carpenter to perform the work.
Use rigid metal when the duct runs behind walls, under floors, or through ceilings—it’s durable and clears lint efficiently. Semi‑rigid metal works well for short, visible sections that need a little flexibility. Your installer will match the material to the layout, but steer clear of flexible foil or vinyl hoses, as they can trap lint and increase the fire risk.
In tight spaces—a compact laundry room, kitchen, or bathroom—a slim or periscope duct lets the dryer sit close to the wall and still vent efficiently. This approach permits the dryer to sit close to the wall while ensuring efficient airflow. Slim vents offer a wide, rectangular design that fits perfectly in confined areas and can be installed vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. If allowed by local codes, surface-mounted ductwork further enhances accessibility and safety.
Plan on hiring a dryer vent cleaning professional to visit your home once a year to keep airflow strong and reduce fire risk. Large households or extra‑long vents may need a check every six months. Regular service sweeps out lint, spots damage early, and helps the dryer run more efficiently.
Qualified professionals for dryer vent installation include HVAC installers who deliver unmatched expertise for safe, secure installations. Experienced handypersons, plumbers, and roofers also perform these projects when the job is simple or when the vent pathway is clearly accessible. An HVAC installer guarantees a proper, code-compliant installation. For complex installations involving concealed ducts or challenging routes, always choose a specialist with a solid track record.
The maximum allowable dryer vent length is set at 25 to 35 feet by local building codes. Any 90-degree turn in the vent layout reduces this maximum by five feet. This exact measurement ensures efficient airflow and minimizes lint buildup, thereby enhancing safety. Adhere to your local code requirements to guarantee a proper and safe installation.
