"My home is 21 years old and the HVAC systems were struggling, so it was time to replace the attic unit which served the 2nd story and the HVAC unit in the basement, which served the finished part of the basement and the first floor. The heating and cooing had been terribly uneven in the finished basement and the first floor, so adding a zoned system was very important to us. Maynor gave a competitive quote, but what set them apart from the other quotes was their attention to detail. Norm and his colleague came out twice to measure and make sure the zoning could be done, because space was tight to re-run ductwork, and they likely would have to cut through sheetrock to get things done. They took time to spec out the features in the HVAC systems that they knew were needed to meet our requirements. The installation crew was Rob and Austen, and these guys were total professionals. I've never had a team work on a major home project that was so professional in every way. They were extremely communicative, calling as they left their shop to tell me when to expect them, going out of their way to describe what was coming next, what the timing might be, etc., etc. Their work was of high quality, and the installed systems were neatly put into place. Their attention to detail (and new building codes) was superb. Since a good part of the installation was going through a workshop, and would be taking up more space than the previous HVAC system, Rob and Austen we proactive in telling me where new components might need to be located, giving me options, and respecting my preferences. They went out of their way to minimize the sheetrock that needed to be disturbed, making the job more difficult for them, but meeting our needs completely. Best of all, the new HVAC systems are working beautifully and have given us what we've been looking for -- a solution that heats and cools both the first floor and the lower floor very evenly. Maynor's professionalism was also evident in all our communications with Christy at the home office, dealing with billing, registering the system and applying for rebates from the power company. Maynor really has it's act together and their team goes out if its way to make sure the customer gets the right equipment, installed with the highest level of professionalism."

"Overall experience was excellent.  We noticed that the air conditioning / cooling of our old HVAC system wasn't working when we first turned it on this year.  The serviceman from Alpine determined that the refrigerant fill valve was leaking, and provided an estimate to replace the valve and the refrigerant.  Since the leak had completely drained the system (it used R-22 which costs over $100 / pound), the repair was going to cost $1500 - of an old unit.  It was recommended that we consider replacing the HVAC unit.  The salesperson we met with was thorough and knowledgeable, and presented us a range of options to consider. He did steer us away from lower quality units to several higher quality options (all made by Amana), and we elected to go with a mid-range system.  The installation was performed over 1.5 days by 2 technicians (the furnace is in the basement), and the technicians were prompt, courteous, thorough and complete. I had pretty minimal cleanup to do after they had completed the job.  System is working beautifully at the 2 month mark. I would recommend them highly for their efficient service and knowledgeable advice."

"Had Yellow Dot come out and give us a quote to replace our broken Carrier gas pack.  We'd had a maintenance contract with another HVAC company (Environmental Air) from when they'd replaced our a/c last year.  However, we weren't overly impressed with their professionalism when they replaced the a/c so knew we weren't going to hire them to replace the furnace once the problem was discovered. (I wasn't a member of Angie's List when I originally hired Enviro Air spring of 2012.)
Similar to others' reviews, our experience with Yellow Dot was excellent from start to finish.  Jimmy Hughes, our project manager, came out and did a *very thorough* assessment of the current duct work, whether the # of exchanges we had was appropriate for the space, etc.  (Note, our other HVAC company never did any of this).  He gave us two choices (simple replacement of the gas pack or an upgrade to a two stage unit that saves energy over time) and was not at all high pressure about which we should do.  He left it up to us and how long we would be in the house since the energy savings really wouldn't be seen until after the 4 or 5 year mark so to consider that as we decided whether to spend the money upfront for it.  He was here for almost an hour doing the evaluation and giving information.
We went with the more expensive, two stage gas pack unit as we intend to be here for at least another 10 years.  We were able to take advantage of an excellent 0% finance option through Trane.  Given the unexpected cold snap and the fact that it wasn't safe to turn on the heat, Jimmy was able to schedule us for today (I called on Tues. to say we wanted to hire them).  Jimmy came out this a.m., reviewed the financing paperwork and introduced us to his two installers.  The installers were both professional and pleasant (and didn't mind my big dog's curiosity about what they were doing and why!).   It was a quick (approximately 4 hours), efficient install.  They checked the new thermostat and the unit before they left, of course, and made sure the new carbon monoxide detectors were well-placed.
Yellow Dot seems to really care about their reputation in the field.  We've hired them to do the annual maintenance based on our experience and Angie's List reviews.  Also, it may seem like a small detail, but their work area was cleaned up of all debris when they left (not true of our previous HVAC co.) and they made sure to haul the unit the long way around , across our backyard  and up the side, so as not to disturb our neighbor's grass (unit along property line in a mulched area).  Small considerations that go a long way. "Sooo....first, Jim is a very nice guy.  However, Jim now works in Nashville during the week and is only home to the Huntsville area on the weekends.
My first impression of him was that he was awesome.  My computer system had crashed because I pulled the plug during a thunder storm before the computer fully shut down which resulted in the computer hanging up.  Jim took my call while in Tennessee and suggested how to fix the system.  For this I am very grateful.

What happened next was I had him come and check my computer to make sure everything was working properly.  He came to my house and spent an hour tweaking it (basically running various checks on the system), for which I paid him $50.  He suggested that my laptop would work much better if I had Windows 7 and increased my RAM up to 4 GB.  He said he could install it for me for (including the RAM) for about $160.  We met the following weekend for the handoff and he loaded Window 7.  When I received the call it was ready, the bill was $227.50.  I was surprised that is was $70 more than quoted, but paid it anyways.  When I asked about the RAM, he mentioned he did not upgrade the RAM and this would be another $60.  I was a little discouraged at that point since I felt like I was being taken advantage of, but the guy is relatively nice, so I said to go ahead and order the RAM.  He did so and the following weekend was supposed to install it.  Due to some personal things in his life, he wasn't able to install it, so I picked it up since I had to go out of town and could use the IT guy at my new location to install it for me.  When we went to install the RAM, the system wouldn't let us do it since my particular type of laptop can only take 2GB of RAM max.  If Jim had gone to the crucial.com website (where he bought my RAM) and entered my computer system on it, it would have told him the max amount of RAM that could be installed on that unit.  He did not do that.  He is supposed to refund my $60 this next weekend.

I think if Jim wasn't burning the candle at both ends by having a job in Tennessee during the week and trying to run this business on the weekends, it would've been a better experience.  Perhaps taking a few extra minutes to SLOW DOWN and write out an estimate of everything he would need for the job including the prices would ensure people know up front how much the repair would/should cost so they can budget accordingly.  I think if he had taken that approach, it might've been a better experience.  So now I am stuck with a laptop that runs slower because Windows 7 uses more memory and a laptop that can't be upgraded to more RAM.  Basically, the last step which cost me almost $300 was not necessary.  If you need something simple done like coming back from a system crash, he would be okay to use.  Otherwise, for the bigger jobs, I recommend he provide a written estimate with the items he plans to do.

UPDATE:  After posting this review, I received a number of text messages from Jim commenting on the bad review.  I understand he is upset, but harassing someone about a review is not a good way to go.  My review was honest and not meant to be mean, but to let those that use Angie's list get what they pay for...an honest review of someone's experience."

"Mike and Crystal were very professional from the first phone contact through the completion of the work. They showed up on time, their work was neat and they worked very efficiently. My windows were in pretty bad shape. They really took their time and prepped them very well which showed in the finished product. When asked to redo or touch up anything it was done without question. In the end we received a very good paint job on a timely basis and at a competitive price. I have already recommended Mike's Painting to others in my neighborhood and would use him again for future painting needs.
