"I would like to preface my statement by saying this company was recommended to me by my family member who has used this company regularly and has not yet had their AC unit replaced - their unit is 21 years old. I was having problems with my upstairs AC unit not cooling properly and called out to American Family for the first time with a service call thinking that the unit may only need repair (maybe needing freon or a leak as the blower motor seemed to still be working, just no cool air). It turned out to be the compressor. I elected not to replace the units compressor due to the age of the unit itself. The company rep suggested that we also replace the heating unit upstairs due to its age and noting the complications we were having at the end of the winter season (he did check it as well). He stated it would be cheaper to do both than one at a time, but also stated it was completely my choice. Knowing about this company from other relatives they do try to repair and/or resolve your HVAC issues first. However, my AC was beyond a reasonable repair. I asked for a bid without the heating unit and with the AC and heating. The quotes were individually fair and I elected to do the later (with heat and AC). They scheduled immediately with owner Tim. They were able to install the next day, but I elected 2 days later. I only paid for the service call at this point and they accepted my coupon. The service guys arrived timely. It was an extremely hot day (roughly 99 degrees), but the workers stayed all day installing both units until everything was satisfactory. They were pleasant and explained everything in detail. They cleaned up after themselves, taking the old units. There was very little residual left behind and considering they worked so long and it was so hot they were respectful and completed the job as stated. A part was missing during install, but it was immediately resolved as it was brought by someone else from the company, in turn, leaving them to continue working rather than leaving and coming back. I was very pleased overall and will use them again."

"These guys are great and were definitely the best value. Very knowledgeable and up on the latest technology and research in home comfort. We discussed some possible upgrades to improve efficiency and comfort and I was very confident in my decisions. Installers were professional and hard-working. The owner, Tim, is a really nice guy and I didn't feel rushed or pressured as we were talking through the options. Office staff was on the ball with gentle (not aggressive) follow ups. Also, TDH Mechanical guarantees the system for 12 YEARS parts AND labor!!! So if something, anything goes wrong with the system (other than you bashing it with a hammer or like your basement flooding) they come out and fix it at NO charge. That sealed the deal for me. "Nick took my dryer completely apart and removed all the accumulated lint. He cleaned the exhaust inside and out. He recommended annual cleaning and perhaps next year, redoing the external plastic parts which create static to attract lint instead of exhausting it completely. I almost forgot, he also adjusted the feet on my washer. That should take care of my unbalanced loads. I felt completely comfortable having this neighbor repair person in my home and will ask him to return next year to service my appliances."

"I'd not used Veteran Cleaning Services before and wanted to get some answers about the dryer vent cleaning they offered.  My dryer is on the third floor and the vent terminates on the 5th floor.  I wanted to know if they would service a dryer that was not on the ground floor.  I emailed them via the Angie's List website.  They did not respond.  I emailed again a few days later and still no response.  Then I tried calling their office and left a message.  No response.  I called the office again and also their mobile number.  A few days later, we were able to connect.
They answered my questions about cleaning the dryer vent in my townhouse so I purchased a Big Deal for $100.  We agreed to a date and time.  Some days later I had to reschedule.  I called and the service was changed to a new date and time.
The day of service, Veteran Cleaning Services were a no show.  I contacted them and was told they had forgotten to note the new service date on their schedule due to problems with their phone system.   We scheduled for another day and they came as promised.
Service was carried out promptly with no issues.  The service tech suggested changing the cap on the vent because lint was being trapped by the cap and then falling back down the vent pipe.  He suggested removing the cap and replacing it with an elbow so lint can fly out the vent.  Other companies had never suggested doing that and I was pleasantly surprised by the suggestion as he was correct that the cap on the vent was not appropriate.
I was promised a receipt via email, which I have not received.  After the tech left, I found the dryer and washer were dirty with lint particulates and the laundry room floor had pieces of lint.  There were also a few pieces of lint on the stairs between the third and fifth floors.  Some lint is bound to escape notice but more of it should have been cleaned up.
Overall I was pleased with their service and would use them again.  I suggest their company work on being more responsive when customers call or email, and also, they should try to clean up as much lint as possible before leaving a customer's home.
