"Peter and Billy installed a mini-split a/c system in my home recently. There were 3 head units on 3 different floors. They arrived on time, discussed the work with me, and explained what they were doing when I would pop in to check on the progress. It was a two-day installation with rain on the first day and heat/humidity on the second. Throughout both days both Peter and Billy remained of good cheer, working efficiently, without a grumble about the weather. An electrician, Chris, joined them on the second day and completed his work quickly. He even took the time to tack up a dangling powerline in the drop ceiling of the basement that wasn't part of the a/c install. Mid-afternoon on the second day everything was complete. Peter walked me through the work they had done, inside and outside. He asked if I had any questions or concerns. I'm very happy with the work that was done and would recommend them to anyone who asked."

"I bought a really nice regency gas fireplace from South Shore Fireplace and couldn't have been happier with the way they treated me and completed the installation. They were the most attentive and considerate companies I approached which is why I went with them. We couldn't get the time of day from other fireplace stores. These guys were right on the ball from the start. Spent a lot of time going over the different stoves and options that go with them all. The installation was scheduled and went very well. Installers were very thorough and clean. This was a complete installation, needed the chimney as well as the stove. Everything was done perfectly and I couldn't be happier. Recently, the stove I picked had a recall and I was informed and updated by Scott as soon as he had news. This actually went on for a couple of months but Scott would contact me every couple of weeks and let me know what was going on. When the replacement part came in, they scheduled the work IMMEDIATELY and I met Jon, one of the senior techs and installers. Jon was on time, meticulous and thorough. Very clean and organized as you would expect a master craftsman to be. The repair went very well and made my stove run better than ever before. When your happy with a job someone does for you, you hardly ever write a review but something turns sour, people can't write one quick enough. When I need something done, I go online and read all the awful reviews of probably great companies so I do not hire them. "They were very responsive and were able to be out here within a week. The service was great and quick, the previous owners of our home smoked and after the cleaning the smell was gone. They explained everything they were doing and were careful not to chip any paint or damage our wooden vents."

"I hired Tingley Electric on two occasions. On the first, Vinny visited my house and later sent me an estimate.  The actual work was conducted by a separate team of two guys.  On the first job, they
--installed an Ecobee thermostat (sort of a nerdier competitor to the Nest thermostat). It is actually a pain to install, since there is a separate control box by the furnace. The installation went smoothly.
--installed coaxial cable plugs in several rooms.
This went very well, so I hired them shortly after to:
--install a second Ecobee in the basement
--remove a some nasty light fixtures in a drop ceiling, install a few can lights, install a closet light, move a few wall outlets to a particular switch.
--update a lot of old outlets and switches
--replace a bathroom exhaust fan.
I was actually traveling just before the job, so Vinny allowed me to ship the fan and thermostat directly to his shop. It was quite helpful. The same team worked both times. They were prompt and clean (especially in carefully cutting drywall for coaxial).
The price is very approximate, since this was about a year ago, but it was fair given the work quality.

"Sooo....first, Jim is a very nice guy.  However, Jim now works in Nashville during the week and is only home to the Huntsville area on the weekends.
My first impression of him was that he was awesome.  My computer system had crashed because I pulled the plug during a thunder storm before the computer fully shut down which resulted in the computer hanging up.  Jim took my call while in Tennessee and suggested how to fix the system.  For this I am very grateful.

What happened next was I had him come and check my computer to make sure everything was working properly.  He came to my house and spent an hour tweaking it (basically running various checks on the system), for which I paid him $50.  He suggested that my laptop would work much better if I had Windows 7 and increased my RAM up to 4 GB.  He said he could install it for me for (including the RAM) for about $160.  We met the following weekend for the handoff and he loaded Window 7.  When I received the call it was ready, the bill was $227.50.  I was surprised that is was $70 more than quoted, but paid it anyways.  When I asked about the RAM, he mentioned he did not upgrade the RAM and this would be another $60.  I was a little discouraged at that point since I felt like I was being taken advantage of, but the guy is relatively nice, so I said to go ahead and order the RAM.  He did so and the following weekend was supposed to install it.  Due to some personal things in his life, he wasn't able to install it, so I picked it up since I had to go out of town and could use the IT guy at my new location to install it for me.  When we went to install the RAM, the system wouldn't let us do it since my particular type of laptop can only take 2GB of RAM max.  If Jim had gone to the crucial.com website (where he bought my RAM) and entered my computer system on it, it would have told him the max amount of RAM that could be installed on that unit.  He did not do that.  He is supposed to refund my $60 this next weekend.

I think if Jim wasn't burning the candle at both ends by having a job in Tennessee during the week and trying to run this business on the weekends, it would've been a better experience.  Perhaps taking a few extra minutes to SLOW DOWN and write out an estimate of everything he would need for the job including the prices would ensure people know up front how much the repair would/should cost so they can budget accordingly.  I think if he had taken that approach, it might've been a better experience.  So now I am stuck with a laptop that runs slower because Windows 7 uses more memory and a laptop that can't be upgraded to more RAM.  Basically, the last step which cost me almost $300 was not necessary.  If you need something simple done like coming back from a system crash, he would be okay to use.  Otherwise, for the bigger jobs, I recommend he provide a written estimate with the items he plans to do.

UPDATE:  After posting this review, I received a number of text messages from Jim commenting on the bad review.  I understand he is upset, but harassing someone about a review is not a good way to go.  My review was honest and not meant to be mean, but to let those that use Angie's list get what they pay for...an honest review of someone's experience."
