I asked for an itemized estimate when I realized that a total of $1209.11 for a p-trap ($13 at Home Depot) and basket strainer (also cheap, unless I wanted to get fancy with a $60 one) seemed really high. He said it was too late in the day to connect me to a supervisor when I asked who I could speak to about an itemized estimate. I now realize that this was NOT a situation where I should have signed anything. Customers are in their right to get itemized receipts for work over $500. I was quoted $587 for the p-trap and installation and $621 for the basket strainer.

A very professional, courteous, and personable plumber, Bruce, diagnosed the problem and made an expert repair for a reasonable cost. We were very pleased. Bruce was genuinely concerned about our home's plumbing. Without any sales pressure at all, he and his equally expert associate, Matthew, made an inspection of our water pipes and discovered three issues: 1) the "water shutoff valve" at the base of the house was actually a gas shutoff valve!, and 2) a number of our water pipes were galvanized pipe instead of the desired/required copper pipe. While under the house, Matthew spotted issue # 3) and photographed it: one of our heating ducts had become disconnected, thus pumping hot air into the crawlspace! So, we are having Plumbtree Pumping come back to make a thorough estimate to correct items 1) and 2). (And our HVAC people will fix item 3)!)
