"Kenny responded promptly to my query for help.  He was very busy, but provided an estimate when he said he would.  He showed up for the work when he said he would.  The job took two days - Remove/grind out existing mortar (what was left) in day one and repoint the entire steps group the next.  Everything looks better than new.  Positively perfect.

If I ever need masonry work again, I'll be giving Kenny a call.  I've seen his work and it's great.

"The brick foundation had settled at a corner of my house causing mortar to break and a few bricks were broken.  The crack was about 3/4 inch wide.  Five holes were dug about 2 feet deep and jacks were installed to jack the brick siding back  in place.  Once the brick siding was in place cement was injected to hold the brick in place.  The broken bricks were replaced. The lintel over the garage door, door and window were replaced.  The mortar that was damaged on the house was removed and re-pointed.  The Hipp Masonry crew were polite.  They did excellent work.  The crew cleaned up at the end of each day and after the job was completed.

"Jeff showed up on time and did his work professionally. He recommended replacing 4 vent covers due to splitting or rotting and gave me an estimate for that. He was gentlemanly and well-informed, didn't try to upsell things that weren't needed. I was aware of the deteriorating vent flanges because I had recently had my chimney cover replaced and the pro who did that notified me of their condition. I felt like Mighty Hands did what they were contracted to do in a way that made me confident of their work."

"I am unhappy with the end result. The kitchen tile is okay however, after paying an extra $100 to have a wood trim install in my foyer entrance, I have been living with a defective product since late March. The trim is being held by a bucket full of book to prevent us to trip and hurt ourself. Contacted the company more than once , was promise the problem would be fix however, I am still waiting."

"Made call and left message, which Darren returned fairly quickly.  Made appointment for this work, and added another job that will be done later (wood rot on exterior of roof eaves), and received estimate.  He agreed to call after completing another job that day, which he ended up doing at almost the exact time he'd originally estimated.  Showed up and walked with me to review the situation of birds building a nest inside broken vent access about 10-12' up side of house.  Assessed possibility they got nest materials into the fan area over the microwave where the venting originated in the kitchen.
He was able to use a screened dryer vent flap assembly I'd already purchased, attached it after cleaning out the exterior area of the vent ducting, and then went inside the house to remove and clean the venting above the microwave/stove.  He reassembled the venting and duct-taped it to a better condition than it had been originally.
All in all, a most satisfying job done, well worth the quite affordable cost and totally responsive to everything I mentioned, including returning later for the wood rot repairs.  This is my second time using him, and he remains reliable, personable, and professional, and he'll get my business next time I need handyman work done.

Get It Done Contracting greatly exceeded my expectations and the husband and wife co-owner team of Dave and Melisa treated our kitchen as if it was their own.

We sought estimates from four contractors in the fall of 2014 and selected Get It Done Contracting in January 2015 because they were less expensive than the others.  We also felt comfortable working with Melisa.  Melisa manages the initial estimate process and does the paperwork/ordering behind the scenes and Dave performs demo and manages the project on site.  If you appreciate being treated like you are the only game in town, go with Get it Done.

For background, we spent about $35,000 on the project, which lasted about a month and included demo, painting, ceiling fan, pendant light, can lights, under cabinet lighting, painting (walls/ceiling), cabinets and cabinet/drawer pulls, granite countertops and a sink, 700 sq ft of tile (kitchen, laundry room, hall, foyer, bathroom), tile backsplash, toilet and stainless steel appliances.  We let Dave and the gang rip out and install everything.  The way Get it Done operates is that the customer purchases appliances, pulls, faucet, ceiling fan, tile back splash/grout and floor tile/grout separately.  The reason for this is so you have control of the selection.  The estimate takes this into account, so you aren't paying more than some of the competitors who include everything or nearly everything in their estimate.  We had to go to the granite store and pick out the slabs we wanted, select the edge style for the granite, and pick out the sink style.  We also went to the cabinet store to pick out the cabinet style and color.

What I like about Get it Done is that they don't subcontract to a bunch of random people.  They have a tile guy, Keith, who is fantastic and does all the tiling himself.  He spent about two and a half weeks in our house.  By the time he left it felt like he was one of the family.  I learned a lot about tiling by watching and talking with him.  They have a painter, Jesse, and an electrician and plumber (can't recall their names).  They were all knowledgeable, polite, courteous, and respected our home.  We saw Dave and Keith more than the rest.  The others were in and out pretty quickly.  If I ever had an issue, Dave quickly rectified it.  He always went above and beyond to ensure I was satisfied.

If I had any advice, give yourself about 4-5 months of slop from the time you start researching contractors until the project is complete.  We spent a couple of months selecting Get it Done, then it took about a month or so to get the cabinets in.  While the cabinets are being ordered, you can purchase the appliances, tile and all the other things.  The timing worked out well.  Stay patient because it is a long and nerve-racking process, but it is well worth it when complete.

Ultimately, we were so happy with Get it Done that we are planning to have them give us an estimate on our master bathroom remodel.  I would never recommend skipping the estimate process and throwing all your eggs in one contractor's basket, but you can't go wrong if you get just one estimate from Get it Done and then pull the trigger.

Note:  I'm attaching before and after photos.  We have since purchased a matching kitchen table and window treatments.  Those were not in the "After" photos when I took them.

"Donnie and his team are skilled professionals! They keep our yard and landscaping looking great, and are always quick to answer any questions we might have. They’re careful not to disturb anything in the driveway or on our deck, and they always leave any bulk items (ex bags of leaves) at the curb. We couldn’t be happier with the service they provide, and it is a GREAT value at the cost. They’ve also handled some medium size brush removal and planted privacy hedges, all while working around an in ground sprinkler system. If you have any lawn/landscaping needs, I recommend calling them first!"

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Virginia Beach, VA

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
