"They were extremely professional leaving the work area at the end of the day cleaner than when they started. He was extremely patient with installing the backsplash making it perfectly straight even around windows and corners. Pricing was extremely reasonable and I’m planning on hiring them for fireplace tiles and basement flooring."

"As usual Mark and his team got the work done on time and on budget, I have used JHI several times over the last 15 years from major jobs such as replacing my deck and bathroom remodel to floor refinishing and door replacement and have always been highly satisfied with the quality of work, professionalism and price. I would highly recommend JHI for any of your home improvement needs.

"Problem free. Great communication. Derek did all the purchasing after we discussed what I wanted. I didn't have to lift a finger until he texted that he was outside and had completed the job. I will call Derek again when I need home repairs."

"Everything went great, there were a couple changes that had to be made as the job progressed, we found out the old toilet had been leaking pretty badly, and there was a bunch of rotting floor boards.  Other than that they completed the job within our time frame, cleaned the house up at the end of each day very well, and really treated our home like it was theirs.  Everything was sealed up with plastic barriers so we wouldn't get dust throughout the house, I was very pleased about that.  We plan to have them back in the next year or two for the kitchen.

"For hardwood floors, this company was OK. For countertops, it was not a good experience.
I order hardwood floors throughout the house. The quote came in lower than the competition. Plus, to seal the deal David, the owner of Affordable Flooring, offered to tile my floor for free with some porcelain tile overstock. BTW, all of my communications went through the office manager (the owner is very hard to reach).
Though there were quite a number of dings, scratches, and cracks to the trimwork they removed to install the flooring, the flooring looks good. I had to clean up a lot of glue, and was a bit disappointed that they didn't do that work. (They also didn't flush the toilet after using it ..., but whatever).
When it came to the countertops, though, it was a bad experience.
I paid $1200 for a 3x5 piece of custom-cut Corian with a sink. In all, it took 50 days.
The company missed three or four appointments. Their counter subcontractor quit on them. So, I had to take multiple days unpaid off of work to accommodate measuring, remeasuring, etc.
Even though the contract clearly states plumbing was included, the company couldn't perform. The owner tried to do the work himself, only to leave the project halfway finished. His father actually finished the job, but the company nevertheless charged me an additional $100 to have his father (who may or may not have been a licensed plumber) finish the work.
Only when I threatened small claims court did the owner call me. Until then, he insisted his office manager (a secretary in the shop) could handle all communications. When the owner did finally speak with me, he tried to make me the bad guy for being impatient.
When I complained about his company's work, he said he was being disrespected.
I would not recommend this company.

"I hired Mr. Kennison and was very pleased with the results. I have a small kitchen in an old house (built in 1927) with a lot of issues. No room to move around, very little cabinet (door less cabinets, no less) space. The original was covered with two layers of carpet and sticky tiles over the years. I wanted a kitchen that was usable and friendly and Brad helped me to obtain that. He came up with a beautiful floor plan that utilized my space by angling the counter so that I had a little seating area. I no longer have to have a table in an already small room. He was originally trying to fix my wood floor but with all the wear an tear had to replace. The room was not level so he had to work extra hard to make everything level and fit.. He even went the extra mile to remove some old wainscoating and replaced with primed beadboard. He was also willing to supply references before he started any work. I am very pleased with the results."

FAQs for flooring install, repair, or refinish projects in Williamsburg, MA

Removing tile flooring is a messy job. Expect flying chip fragments, mortar dust, and plenty of debris. Protect the space with plastic sheeting and drop cloths, and gear up with goggles and a respirator before you start prying. Pros keep the mess in check by attaching industrial vacuums to their tools, a setup that captures dust at the source and leaves the work zone far cleaner than a DIY approach.

Removing the old tile first is almost always the smarter play. If you tile over worn or uneven flooring, the new surface can crack, pop, or sit higher than the surrounding rooms. Fixing that later costs far more, especially if you need to re-level the floor. By demoing the tile now, you get a flat, solid subfloor and avoid surprise repairs down the road.
