"Pros: 5 stars/A rating for Maria and Chris. Maria was very professional and accommodating, even with the changes of schedule due to delayed delivery from the flooring company and my own indecisiveness regarding the installation of shoe-moulding, When I reported a couple install issues, she was quick to make sure the installers returned and fixed the problems. So, yes, in spite of the "cons" noted below, I would recommend Freedom Renovations Inc. Cons: The biggest con for me was trying to communicate with the two installers. I think a lot of the issues I am going to address in this review might have been avoided had we been able to communicate a little better. The two young men doing the install were very focused and hard-working. I do not recall seeing them slow down or slack off at any point. At first, I was impressed with the speed in which they worked; however, I started to notice they were going too fast, cutting corners, and creating more waste than necessary. I found them literally tearing the under-flooring material, leaving huge gaps and then covering the gaps with tape. When I tried to address the issue with them, the one who could speak and understand a little bit of English pushed back, telling me that it did not matter because of the padding on the underside of the planks...and he continued doing it in spite of my objections. Having to express concerns about a contractors work is uncomfortable enough, but trying to reason with someone who does not understand you is a bit frustrating. In any case, it most definitely did matter; because now when I walk across the floor, I can feel the difference by the give of the blanks as well as the crunching sound. In one area in the dining room, it is uneven, one or the other pops up depending on which side you step. I found one plank that is cracked on the end in a high traffic area, another bent on the end in the same spot as the one that is cracked, and there is a couple torn areas in front of the stove (they should have installed the plank in front of the stove after they put it back). Those tears are hardly noticeable and I would not have mentioned them had I not found the other more glaring mistakes. According the the measurements, I had enough threshold pieces cover door transitions, but I ended up having to buy more for some reason. Aside from the pieces that I found and retrieved from their trucks, there was no materials left over. Had I not pulled out an unused plank and a couple larger pieces of plank, they would not have had anything to repair the areas that I had called Maria about soon after the install was complete. Whenever I get around to fixing the cracked plank, I will have to spend over $100 for another box of six. I really hate writing this part of the review. The guys were hard workers, but they need to slow down and not be so wasteful. Also, I have a hard time believing they did not know they cracked the end of the plank when trying to click it in with the other one. Even, after this review which some might consider a scathing one, I would still recommend the Freedom Renovations, Inc. just based on my interaction with the owners. I would ask for another pair of installers, though. I have attached pictures. Overall, the flooring looks great. There are some imperfections that are glaring to me, but others might not even notice at first glance unless they are uber observant...or happen to walk over the crack in bare feet. But, I clean and walk across the floors daily; it is difficult for me not to notice."

"We had carpet replaced in three bedrooms and hallway. From start to finish, sales to installation, everything went without a hitch. The sales manager helped us pick just the right flooring and the installation team did an excellent job. The floors are just beautiful and everyone was very professional and a pleasure to work with."

"We called Nicholas Tile and Bath after another contractor we had hired did an awful job installing tile in our shower. The previous contractor was suppose to install a shower door too, but the tile was so bad we didn’t have them back to install the door. Tom came out to give us a quote on just installing the shower door but pointed out to us all the problems with the tile work that had been done. So we hired him to tear out all the previous work and start from scratch. We are so glad we did! Tom and his team did a fantastic job! It looks so much better! Also had them take up linoleum flooring and lay tile. We should’ve gone with him from the beginning. They were pretty punctual with just a couple of exceptions. Very professional! I highly recommend!"

"We had hand scraped wood floors in our vacation home that were not finished properly when the house was built 8 years ago. This year we celebrated Christmas at our vacation home and lots of glitter was used in our store-bought decor. After the holidays we noticed that the glitter was stuck to the floors. We called Bryan (aka Mr Sandless) and he assured us his team could fix the problem. They did! And our floors look beautiful! Better than ever! We are so so so happy! Bryan & his team were excellent to work with- reliable and efficient!"

"Had work done by Joe last August, but just joined Angie's List and felt compelled to write a review due to such a positive experience.  Worked with Tina to get the estimate and she was beyond responsive and helpful; answering many questions I had completely and quickly.  Joe came over right when scheduled and knocked out our floors in about 2 days.  We thought there was no way he could get it all done in the time frame he suggested (2-3 days) but he exceeded expectations.  Work was flawless and the finished product really transformed the feel of our house.  We could not be happier with the cost, responsiveness, and craftsmanship provided by Burgess Flooring.

"I called John Monday morning. He met me at noon that same day to provide an estimate, and he started the next morning. Work was finished by noon on Thursday, and he threw in extras such as putting a coat on the decorative wood around the stairs - he even fed the cats. The floors look amazing! He was polite, professional and friendly. The expense was very fair for the work completed. I will definitely call him again."

FAQs for flooring install, repair, or refinish projects in Charlotte, NC

Removing tile flooring is a messy job. Expect flying chip fragments, mortar dust, and plenty of debris. Protect the space with plastic sheeting and drop cloths, and gear up with goggles and a respirator before you start prying. Pros keep the mess in check by attaching industrial vacuums to their tools, a setup that captures dust at the source and leaves the work zone far cleaner than a DIY approach.

Removing the old tile first is almost always the smarter play. If you tile over worn or uneven flooring, the new surface can crack, pop, or sit higher than the surrounding rooms. Fixing that later costs far more, especially if you need to re-level the floor. By demoing the tile now, you get a flat, solid subfloor and avoid surprise repairs down the road.
