"Gregg showed up on time and arrived well prepared to perform the services I requested. He was friendly and cheerful, and completed the routine maintenance of my furnace and the installation of a new humidifier as I requested. I'll be using Adams Heating & Cooling to perform maintenance on my air conditioner and clean the ducts in my home."

"Excellent experience from start to finish! The home energy audit showed me where I was losing heat and areas that needed attention. Getting the house sealed and getting blown in cellulose and an attic cap installed professionally is something I would recommend to any homeowner. Expediant energy came to install it soon after the initial estimate. which in this winters bitter cold temps is something I really appreciate. I Noticed the difference immediately. Anyone who is paying for heat and looking to improve their insulation should give these guys a call you won't regret it!"

"The whole process was long, but the audit process was done in one day and overall very informative. He came and spent 5 hours going through all the areas of the house looking for energy savings opportunities. He collected the data and did the analysis with computer software. after the contractors finished, Dan came back to perform the second audit. He then filed all the paperwork to the State of NY so we can redeem the 10% cash back."

"Ian did a fantastic job and I would absolutely recommend him.  We used Ian for two home inspections this year.  This first inspection he found a significant number of major issues, and saved us from a real headache down the road.  We happily used him again when we found another house that we were interested in.  Luckily this house was in much better condition.  He is extremely thorough and his reports are very clear and easy to read!"

"Jay was great! We are in the middle of the homebuying process and contacted him for a sewer line scope. He came prepared and walked us through what he was seeing. Even though it wasn't great news (obstruction, ended up being a collapsed line), we're glad he found it now rather than after we had closed on the home. I recommend that everyone get the sewer line inspected before buying a home. It definitely worth it for us!"

"Gary Goodman, the owner, came to our house with a couple of associates and did a Comprehensive Home Assessment. He then prepared a series of proposals to take care of the problems he found and additional steps to improve the energy efficiency of our brand new home. After deciding which improvements we would make we scheduled a day to perform the work. Gary and his crew arrived in the morning and went right to work.Workers in the attic sealed openings, fixed existing fiberglass insulation, prepared and blew in a cellulose 6" cap over existing insulation.Gary personally went around the main floor sealing all the ceiling penetrations.Other workers were outside cutting access holes to the basement rim area in the finished section of the basement.About midday the urethane spray crew arrived and went to work. They sprayed the rim area from inside and through the previously cut outside holes and when that was completed they sprayed the walls in the unfinished section of the basement. In the afternoon when all the work was complete Gary performed another blower door test and it showed a 33% reduction in air infiltration. Gary and his crew were neat and polite and I was extremely happy with the work and especially the energy saving ($$) potential.About a month later another inspection/blower door test was performed by NYSERDA which confirmed the results and netted us a $543.70 (10%) rebate check from them. Gary is a true professional and I recommend him without qualification."

"This review is for the referring sales consultant. Smitty stayed in contact through the whole process. He took time to walk me through the stages of my solar project and answered any questions I had. While I can’t say my solar project was problem free. Smitty stuck with me to ensure all my concerns were addressed. He encouraged me to stand my ground with the contractor, when a problem arose with the roof replacement which was the first phase of the job. Smitty provided excellent customer service. He answered and addressed all my concerns and has remained in contact as the work progressed. Thanks again Smitty."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Albany, NY

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
