"This was our first time working with Steve, and it was a great experience. We requested a quote during a larger home renovation and found that the price was very competitive. Steve was also willing to work around our changing timetable and fit us into a tight window alongside other contractors' schedules. He routinely checked in on our timing and was able to accommodate us quickly once we were ready for the wood to be installed. The crew was amazing—courteous, polite, and extremely hard-working. They ensured everything was done to our satisfaction and even stayed late on the final day to complete the job and clean up. Their work was excellent. It’s worth noting that the lumber company—not Minuteman—delivered some boxes of the wrong color wood. Steve was extremely responsive, ensured the mistake was corrected, and made sure it did not delay the project. To me, that is the mark of a great contractor. The team even repaired our bathroom subfloor, which was outside the scope of the project. Overall, this was an excellent experience, and we truly appreciate the team’s dedication to the project. They said that the only way they treated those was with a yearly contract that includes quarterly monitoring. They said there really was no other way because new mice would just replace the old quickly. However, the yearly contract would include not just rodents but also the bees and wasps, ants and spiders. In the end, after calling around, I agreed to the yearly contract, which was reasonably priced. JP Pest uses the least toxic and most humane methods they can. And bonus: the tick population seems to have declined measurably with the disappearance of the mouse colonies."

R-value measures how well insulation resists heat flow, which directly affects your home's energy efficiency. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation. By calculating the R-value needed for your specific climate and home design, you can choose the right insulation materials and thickness to keep your home comfortable and reduce heating and cooling costs.
You don't need to remove your old insulation before adding new insulation, as long as it's in good condition. Adding new insulation over existing materials can improve your home's energy efficiency. For example, you can install blown-in insulation around fiberglass batts or place rigid insulation over existing layers to enhance the overall R-value. However, if your current insulation is wet, moldy, or damaged, you should remove it to avoid health risks and maintain optimal performance.
Installing insulation typically takes five to twelve hours for batts or boards, and two to five hours for spray foam or blown-in insulation. The exact time depends on the type of material and your home's layout. If you need to remove old insulation, have a larger home, or hard-to-reach areas, the project may take longer.
The International Association of Certified Home Inspectors has said foam board insulation can last up to 100 years if properly installed. Some insulation materials can suffer from water damage or start to sag over many years, thus reducing their insulating ability. Foam boards shouldn't suffer from sagging but have the potential to get damaged. Any broken pieces of foam board can reduce its insulating effectiveness.
