"Krane provides the type of service that we all wish every contractor would provide. I selected them on Angie's List because they were one of the top ranked providers. I soon learned why. It started with something that didn't start... namely, our furnace, which I was preparing for the winter heating season. Uh oh. But maybe (I hoped) it would be some small part that's easily fixed. I called Krane on a Tuesday morning and was told their head technician was in the area and they could take a look at it that afternoon. I pushed down my instinct to keep futzing with it (good thing, as you'll soon understand) and the tech showed up right on time. It took him less than 5 minutes to discover that the flames were doing something called blowback, which could jet flames and carbon monoxide back into our house. (Glad I didn't futz with it!) He explained this was caused by a hole in the heat exchanger. He didn't take it personally when I disappeared for a minute to Google that. He also informed us that our furnace was incorrectly installed, had too many BTU's for the house, as well as being incredibly inefficient (I definitely suspected that.) It was installed in 1999 and rated at 70% efficiency. Sitting down with my wife and I, he recommended a high-efficiency Bryant furnace. Normally, we're not people to make large purchases without a 3-bid. But, we made the purchase based on three things: He didn't try and sell us more than we needed - he told us our air conditioning didn't need to be replaced and we should run it until it died. He acknowledged that there might be a problem with running the exhaust lines, which even we could see. And his price was in line with what we'd found on Angie's List. Krane sent out a guy to measure for the piping the next day. He arrived on-time and left us with no worries. The installation took a whole day. It actually took place earlier than first scheduled due to a cancellation. The technicians were on-time and extremely cordial; despite us saying that they didn't need to put down drop cloths, they did anyway. Because the day was fairly cool, they closed the door behind them every time they went through the front door. They politely explained things when I couldn't resist going into the basement to "check on the progress." (Also known as: Seeing how a furnace goes together.) Three events from the day still stand out as demonstrating their great service. In the first, they were able to show me, without any grumbling, the rusted holes in the heat exchanger that had caused the furnace to fail. The second was when they informed me that our new hot water heater hadn't been installed with the proper chimney liner. I braced for an expensive extra cost, but it never appeared. They didn't change my price at all. Finally, one of the technicians found a problem with the air conditioning that was making it run inefficiently. He fixed it without any extra charge. At the end of the project, you couldn't even tell they'd been here. They took all the old furnace parts with them and swept the basement floor clean. And though they were clearly tired from the work, they patiently explained all the functions of the new thermostat to me. Overall, the entire experience was exceptional. They even brought the forms necessary to collect high-efficiency heating rebates from our local gas and electric companies. And Krane filed them on our behalf! The rebates will allow us to recover $450 off the final invoice price. We also used their Angie's List coupon to save $200 off the invoice. And they waived the cost of the initial inspection visit because we purchased a furnace. All those savings made it a little less painful. We would highly recommend Krane for their honesty, integrity and professionalism."

"They did an excellent job replacing my sewer line. They were prompt, courteous and do great work. I would hire them again. I believe it was good value for the money and they stand behind their work and they were willing to come back and answer some questions. I know very few companies that operate this way."

"There were several problems with the space pack AC unit AC Engineers installed in 2016. AC engineers really stands behind their work. Their technicians are excellent. It took several visits to restore my system but AC Engineers did the job right. I live in a 100 year old house and repairs to my boiler and AC and other systems are a fact of life. AC engineers is a pleasure to work with and I have no reservations to recommend them to a friend."

"Excellent service, very fast response to my request for service, picked up laptop, diagnosed issues. Initially thought it was an OS update issue but the hard drive had failed along with other components (including 'CPU). Because other components were involved, a new solid state hard drive was put into a laptop with a working processor - same type CPU as in the failed unit. The laptop was repaired and returned in less than a week. This company picked up and dropped off the laptop (driving from Huntsville, AL (about 60-70 minutes)-- great service in this covid environment. I would recommend this company to my family./friends and will use again."

"It went great, it was a messy job because it involved removing the old, nasty insulation, but the guys did their best containing the mess. The attic is very difficult to work in due to the low ceiling and they did a great job, no cracks in the ceiling or anything. I also ended up with a "super deck" which is a platform with foam underneath giving me some more storage space that I desperately needed. I can see now that my neighbors house has icicles (which can signal an impending ice dam), and I have none. I gave a B for price because this is an expensive job, I don't believe you can get it for significantly cheaper, but the quality of the job, comfort, and properly functioning attic space are definitely worth it."

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Bloomfield-township, MI

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
