"The installation of my new Bosch HVAC unit was smooth and efficient. New duct work was done where needed. They inspected and replaced the return duct in my crawl space. This was an important repair for me to make sure there were no leaks in the duct system. The duct work and seals were nicely done. The owner of the company was very knowledgeable about different HVAC systems. I have been very satisfied with my new system so far. Also, I had an air purifier installed. I have confidence in Commonwealth to maintain my HVAC in the coming years. Thanks to all the hard working employees who installed my system."

"I have been with Climatemakers of Virginia no for several years and have NEVER been disappointed. An employee there Garry Gappy is our tech and goes above and beyond in his work. On so many occasions he could have told me things that needed fixed (that would cost extra) and I would have gladly paid it. But, he has always been perfectly honest and has saved us so much money. Last year I recommended him to a friend (for their Mother) and the friend arranged an appointment with him. He was able to help their A/C get working fast. I am very proud of this business and will stay with them for HVAC as long as I own a house! -Mark"

"I found Rob on Thumbtack, and along with several other HVAC specialists, and after interviewing people and getting estimates, I chose Rob. He and his colleague helped me compare manufacturers and which systems to buy.. He replaced two heat pumps at our oceanfront beach property in Corolla, with a one year labor warranty. Here's what is also special -- three months later, we had a leak coming down from the ceiling and Rob got out there, unclogged a line, vacuumed the return box and drain pan which ended the leak. and outside, a PVC piece was off and he glued the piece back. He sent photos. This was not a 'redo' of his work, they were new issues, and covered under his warranty, so no additional charge. This is at a vacation rental property, and he did this on a Saturday in between guest check out and new guest arrival."

"We have had nothing but great experiences with this local trustworthy business. Their estimates are very fair and they won’t try to sell you unnecessary products or services. They offer duct replacement services (which a number of similar businesses don’t because it’s not glamorous work or a big money maker). This company feels it’s important to offer the whole package to ensure as much efficiency in your home as possible. The owners and their employees are very professional, polite and hardworking. Even the ladies answering the phone are very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The work they perform is excellent and I would highly recommend them to anyone have trouble with ac/heat/duct work or water heaters. They will give you an honest opinion and you’ll be happy you called them."

"Dana was honest with us by NOT cleaning the ducts. They were in terrible condition with mold and parts were destroyed by an animal (later found the dead possum). He did fix my dryer vent (poorly done in the first place) and recommended a reputable HVAC company that we had a great experience with to replace the duct work."

"Mr. Ferrell first connected his computer to my computer via internet and worked for quite a few hours trying to determine what exactly was wrong. The next day he continued working from his computer for several hours. He determined he would have to have my desktop tower to complete the repair. He and my son met in Huntsville to exchange the tower. He then cleaned up a lot of what was wrong and reloaded Windows 10. He deleted the D: drive which had way too much memory allotted to it. The tower was returned and I plugged it all back together and it is working better than it did when I first purchased it. I would use him again and I recommend him highly to anyone needing computer updating and/or repair. His work is warrantied and he is very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful."

"Outstanding customer service from Marc and the owner Todd. First they responded to the request within minutes, set up a time were at my home in a little over an hour. Identified the issue in minutes and started to make the repair. In least than an hour we had AC restored. Todd spent time with me and went over all the new products to replace my 25 year old system thats on its last legs. Sent his designer to my home and hour later and Rusty had a quote for a full replacement of 2 units in the future. Repair price was very fair and totally upfront with the cost, no hidden fees or tac ons. These guys were friendly and polite and a high end crew who really probably didnt need to take such a small job but myself and my family thank you Todd and Marc !! I will be recommending to friends and neighbors in the future."

"From the first meeting with Matt when he gave us a timeline and our estimate, through the install and the walk through of finished work, it was all very well done. The installers were very polite and made sure that any flooring that they would be walking on or bringing out the old water heater on were completely covered to protect from any dirt or water. Any time we went to see if they needed anything they would tell us what they had gotten done and what they were working on. Not once were they short or put out as some people are when you are curious about what is going on in your house. I would use Lighthouse any time and have already told our friends how professional and caring they were about everything that went into our home and the proper working of it all before they left. They also did not take the last half of our payment until the final walk through which was 5 days after all work was completed. They also do military discounts and cash/check discounts which is a lovely perk."

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Chesapeake, VA

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
