I am a hard surface installer experienced in installing ceramic tile, hardwood & Laminate flooring, vinyl tile, & sheet flooring(linoleum). I have been in the flooring industry for over 25 years. I started out in sales & moved into installation 17 years ago when I joined the Floor covering union here in Cleveland. I completed the 4 year apprentice program through the union & have also taken many other seminars & training classes offered through distributors & flooring manufacturers. Zoltan and his team came in and refinished the existing hardwood floors and perfectly matched and installed the rest of the first floor with hardwood. Now they are a beautiful espresso color. Over the years, some shoddy repairs and replacements had been done and they worked hard to ensure the quality of the floors remained in-tact and to match the stain amongst different types of wood. John was open to our ideas and suggestions when we initally struggled with how to stain match them, but did an outstanding job mixing stains to get it done. Flooring install, repair, or refinishes FAQs
Removing tile flooring is a messy job. Expect flying chip fragments, mortar dust, and plenty of debris. Protect the space with plastic sheeting and drop cloths, and gear up with goggles and a respirator before you start prying. Pros keep the mess in check by attaching industrial vacuums to their tools, a setup that captures dust at the source and leaves the work zone far cleaner than a DIY approach.
Removing the old tile first is almost always the smarter play. If you tile over worn or uneven flooring, the new surface can crack, pop, or sit higher than the surrounding rooms. Fixing that later costs far more, especially if you need to re-level the floor. By demoing the tile now, you get a flat, solid subfloor and avoid surprise repairs down the road.
