"Although the project turned out to be more complicated and took longer than expected, this had little to do with <br /> the builder or his sub-contractors. Primarily the delays were due to weather, financing issues, and poor <br /> communications on the part of the town's code enforcement officer. <br /> Let me address this last issue first. Everything seemed to be alright until the pad was poured. The code <br /> enforcement officer was upset that she was not notified prior to the pouring of the cement so she could inspect <br /> the forms and re-bar. This and quot;misunderstandingand quot; occurred because the CEO never communicated to either myself or the <br /> contractor at what points during the project she wanted to perform inspections. However, from this point forward <br /> the CEO seemed to question every aspect of the project. Demonstrating considerable restraint and diplomacy, most <br /> of the time the contractor bowed to her demands (he was much , but drew the line at her trying to force him to <br /> install a water shutoff valve in a location that would likely have caused our well pump to burn out. In this <br /> case Greg Bragg stood his ground, backing it up with State of Maine statutes. <br /> With respect to the weather, June 2013 was one of the wettest on record for Maine. As far as financing, the <br /> magnitude and cost of the project exceeded what we had budgeted and we found out just how difficult it is to <br /> secure financing for rental property, especially if you are setting up a used mobile home. Consequently, we had <br /> to break the project into two phases. <br /> The demolition of the old house and initial site preparation went very smoothly as can be seen in this 8 minute <br /> YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWaJEgV2iJE). <br /> Getting the mobile home onto the pad was a bit more interesting since the ground was still very muddy from all <br /> the rain we received in June and July. Fortunately, Greg Bragg of Bragg Builders had the foresight to keep a <br /> bulldozer onsite. As can be seen in this 8 minute YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioZ1IFl-3CQ), <br /> the bulldozer was absolutely essential. <br /> The only other issue related to Bragg Builders portion of the project was a ruptured water line. Prior to <br /> constructing the gravel pad a brand new water line was installed and was even packed in sand to ensure rocks <br /> would not rupture the line. Unfortunately, a rupture occurred anyway. Fortunately, the contractor promptly <br /> installed a new water line, at no charge to us. <br />"

"Ron was on site quickly for an estimate.  He was very willing to listen my my ideas and he had some great ideas of his own.  I was provided a detailed quote which showed me exactly where my money was going.  When the crew arrived they were very friendly and professional.  The work site was always kept clean which was a must as you must walk all the way through my house to get to this space.  I'm very happy with the end result and finished product.  This company is very professional and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is in need of a simple project, renovation or newly constructed home. <br />"

"Office staff was courteous, and scheduled for next day. Workman was friendly. I thought it odd that he had to go back to his shop for something on such a simple job. I didn't get an estimate at the beginning--my bad--and the bill was exorbitant. When I called to ask for a breakdown between labor and parts, what I got instead was a different figure and an apology, saying she'd "entered the wrong job number," or something similar, suggesting that they just charge by the job category. I don't like this way of doing things. The fitting he put on my faucet is not anything like the standard fitting for an outdoor faucet, and it's mounted way off center. Sloppy job."

"It was an absolute pleasure to work with Matt Damon and his work crew of three, as well as with Joseph Sewell, the electrician who was subcontracted for the electrical work involved. The work began with a thorough home energy audit conducted by Matt, using a blower door to determine the air leaks within the house. (The house was built in 1940 and was very leaky!) Matt also explained that the work I had planned was eligible for an Efficiency Maine rebate of about $1,000. (The price for the job I have cited is net after the rebate.) The energy audit was done in December and the work was scheduled for late January, the earliest date that Penobscot Home Performance was available. The work crew arrived promptly on the scheduled date and, despite snow and cold, completed their work in less than two full days. The crew went above and beyond the original specs of the job by also foam sealing leaks in the cellar along the edges where the concrete foundation meets the framing, and they even provided an impromptu repair to a broken window in the cellar. Although the loose cellulose is messy to work with, they did an excellent job of cleaning up at the end of the job. I also had the electrician install new digital thermostats, at a very modest additional cost. The whole crew was courteous, tidy, and they even put up with my dog! At the end of the whole process, Matt repeated the blower door test and determined that the energy efficiency had improved by about 30%. This verdict was borne out by the next gas bill I received after the work was completed, which reflected a 30% decrease in the number of therms used. I plan to have Penobscot Home Performance back in the spring to install new storm windows and foundation insulation. <br />"

"When hired to do this job, Mark Burnett assured us that the foam would fill all spaces in the peak of the roof, preventing the accumulation of moisture. However, that was not done; what was created was a micro-climate up there that not only collected moisture, but it came down anywhere it could, leaking into the living space below. We were in the process of finishing the room by the time we realized what was happening, and had drywall up, so this was not a happy situation. The last thing you want is water dripping onto your new ceilings from a space you can't get at. Mark was positive that they had done nothing wrong, which is strange since he wasn't here when it was sprayed, and didn't come to look at it. Finally, after quizzing his workers, he admitted that they had NOT done it correctly. He did not take responsibility for fixing it, and probably hoped he'd never hear from us again. We had to wait for better weather to remove the top of the roof of this building in order to have it correctly insulated, and the additional expense was $750. Again, although his workers did come with cans of spray insulation, he did not offer to pay for any of the cost of this repair. This could have been avoided if he'd done it correctly, as promised, the first time. This was a new building with no issues, and to see water dripping into our space was disheartening, especially when we had to undertake the repair and pay for it ourselves. Add to that Mr. Burnett's unprofessional and unkind behavior, and it all adds up to an unpleasant experience."
