"Best HVAC company I've ever used. I won't use anyone else. They take their time to always do the right thing. And their work is always clean and tight. I'm very grateful I found them for our old house."

"Of the five contractors who bid on the job, All-Air performed the most comprehensive survey. Their representative, Jason Denny, was among the most knowledgeable about his products and the HVAC field. All-Air was the only bidder to offer a selection of systems with varied levels of features. Their installers arrived on-time every day for the duration of the installation, and stayed late if necessary to meet each day's goals. They installed plastic sheeting over our carpets, and removed and replaced our old HVAC units without leaving any damage or marks to our home's interior. No packing materials or other debris was left for us to deal with. The installation was performed in a workman-like manner. After the systems were checked out, we were given a complete set of instruction manuals and other documentation, plus Mr. Denny went over a step-by-step explanation for operating the systems. Our experience was very satisfying and we would be happy to recommend them to anyone!"

"Howard is very professional and knowledgeable. I chose Howard through the Georgia Power home energy audit program. I wanted the audit performed by someone who was independent of any future services. The audit took approximately 4 hours. Howard conducted a very thorough examination of the house and attic including a blower door test to check total home air leakage. His follow-up report was very thorough and easy to understand. There is a $150 rebate from Georgia Power for conducting the audit which I have received."

"My son had just closed on a house.  We knew from the inspection that the furnace was not working.  My son had contacted another company  recommended by inspector to look at the furnace.  They recommended it be replaced for about $4000, gave no quote for repairs.  I told my son to call ESmith.  I have used them on my house and on a rental property that I own.  They have always been honest and very professional with their work.  They were able to repair the furnace, and did recommend replacing in the future.  I highly recommend and will continue to use their services! <br />"

"At the time I had the energy audit performed (February 2010) Georgia Power offered a $200 rebate through the Energy Star Program for a home energy audit performed by one of the companies listed on Georgia Power's website. I reviewed and obtained quotes from the five "assessments only" companies (instead of ?assessments and improvements? companies) listed on Georgia Power's website. I picked Building Performance Diagnostics based on my discussion with the owner, Sandy Herrera ? the price quotes from four of the five companies were about the same and were based on square footage of the house. During the call Sandy asked what my goals were for the energy audit and I explained that while interested in energy efficiency, I was more concerned about the draftiness of the house during the winter time. Sandy was very patient in explaining the tests he would conduct for the energy audit, how these tests would identify the causes of the drafty conditions in the house, how long the tests would take (about 5 - 6 hrs), and the report he would create and explain in a follow-up visit. Sandy was fantastic, very professional, knowledgeable, efficient, and thorough. I noticed his equipment was well maintained and he carefully explained everything he was doing, and was very patient in answering all of my layman questions. He even let me use his thermal camera while he did some of the tests so that I could understand how the camera identifies where cold air (February!) was leaking into the house. After Sandy completed the energy audit he immediately scheduled a follow-up visit to discuss the report he would create. Sandy did have to reschedule the follow-up visit once due to running behind schedule on another energy audit, but he called early enough that it had no impact to my busy day and it was no problem rescheduling for a few days later (and he was willing to meet in the evening so that it didn?t impact my long commute). The report Sandy created was very informative and detailed and he spent about an hour and a half reviewing it with me. The report listed the results of the tests he performed, such as ?air exchanges per hour? within the house, as well as the specific points throughout the house that were allowing air to leak in and out. He also had data on how inefficiently my HVAC system and duct work were moving conditioned air around the house and how I could fix that. Sandy also provided one-page ?fact sheets? on things like Radiant Barriers and Air Sealing that were very educational and explained how I could correct the issues identified through the energy audit. All in all I was extremely pleased with Sandy?s work and everything I learned through the energy audit that -- once I fix things -- will make my home more efficient and more comfortable."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Decatur, GA

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
