" I am new to El Paso, purchased a home that had an old swamp cooler, that didn’t work and had not worked for years. I contacted four heating and cooling services to place bids for a complete replacement to a new modern heating and cooling system, three bids came in extremely high, and the 4th from ARRON’S Heating and Air Conditioning came in just right for my budget. Now I want to tell of my great customer service experience with the installation of my heating and cooling system, Alonzo Perez the General Manager made me feel quite at ease, and walked me through the process step-by-step, this is an employee ARRON’S should be proud to have representing their company, Alonzo did not find any of my request too big or small for him to finish to my satisfaction, I understand that Arron’s is busy this time of year, Alonzo took all the time that was needed to answer all of my question, which means a lot. This is what it means to have great customer service skills, to kindly help me as if it was not a problem. Alonzo and his crew are some of the many reason I would recommend ARRON’S over other services, their professionalism and mostly their kindness that would keep me returning for my air conditioning needs. Alonzo and his crew are truly treasures ARRON’S. ARRON’S deserve credit for hiring such professional, knowledgeable, quality employees, but most of all for their kindness and for a job well done for their customers, ARRON’S and Alonzo Perez and his crew have my recommendation, I am extremely satisfied with ARRON’S, Sincerely Gary C Palmer (my new Carrier system works great and was installed and working in the time frame and date I was given, no delays, at the the bid I was quoted)"

"Exceptionally well. All phases of this job, which was to replace a 64 y/o furnace, and replace it with a new one was handled by Scott Bryant and his team in a timely and professional manner. The install crew ( Nate & John ) had the experience and knowledge to tackle this challenging job and make it look easy. I was super-impressed with the results of both the furnace and hot water heater finished-product, Well Done !"

"I scheduled service through an Angie's list deal: $75 to switch from the heater to the evaporative cooler. The service was scheduled for four days after I purchased the offer and contacted Luis, for 8:30 a.m. After waiting for more than 45 minutes that morning, I called Luis who said that some employees didn't show, etc. He apologized for not having called me and said that he had someone working on a job and would send them to me next. He checked in with them and then called me back to let me know that he could be there about two hours later. He called again to let me know when the employee was on the way, and he also said that he could throw in a free service when changing from the cooler to heat for the winter. Overall, though I was a little frustrated by the lost time, I thought Luis was very professional. He depends on other people who let him down that day, and he handled it as well as he could after I called. It's apparent that he cared about having my business, and I appreciate that.

The employee who arrived to set up the cooler didn't rush and seemed to do a thorough job. The cooler is on the roof, and I didn't go up to look at it. The only thing I didn't really like was that he tossed my metal cover (that protects the cooler during the winter) off of the roof and bent the corner. He said they usually land flat, but I don't think it's a good practice to toss it off at all. I was around and would have been happy to grab it. As it turned out, I also needed some repairs before he could turn on the cooler. He said a pillow block bearing was worn completely through and had to be replaced. Fortunately, he went ahead and got the part and made the repair then and there. I know that was not in the plan, so I was appreciative that they could accommodate that. Unfortunately, he said the shaft had wear and would last maybe another couple of years. While he was taking it apart, I researched it, and I know exactly what he was talking about and that it was true. Last season I head the cooler making a noise, and I called another company to check it out. They said there was no problem. If they had fixed it, the shaft wouldn't have worn as much. I appreciated the way Luis's employee showed me the part and explained everything. I would trust him to check it out and do work again. With that repair and a new float, I paid $137 more. That seems fair for the work and time it took.

It has been a few days, and I may have to ask them to check on my system. It's working, but it is just not cooling like I know it has before. I've checked, and there's water that drains from the overflow pipe (so I think the pad is getting water), and the fan is blowing. At night when it's cool, the house cools down, but during the day it's only about 2 degrees cooler than outside. It's natural for it to warm during the day, but I know last summer it didn't warm to almost 90 inside. I don't know what it might be, but I would call Startech to check on it."

"Mr. Ferrell first connected his computer to my computer via internet and worked for quite a few hours trying to determine what exactly was wrong. The next day he continued working from his computer for several hours. He determined he would have to have my desktop tower to complete the repair. He and my son met in Huntsville to exchange the tower. He then cleaned up a lot of what was wrong and reloaded Windows 10. He deleted the D: drive which had way too much memory allotted to it. The tower was returned and I plugged it all back together and it is working better than it did when I first purchased it. I would use him again and I recommend him highly to anyone needing computer updating and/or repair. His work is warrantied and he is very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful."

"After the 100+ temperature week we had in San Antonio, our AC struggling to cool, so we finally gave in and decided to make a call for insulation. We could feel the heat in the walls form the sun, so we spoke to Manuel at Insulation Works asking for a quote for wall insulation. He explained that while he could install insulation in the walls, it was likely not the problem, he suspected it was really our attic that needed insulation. He came to our home and gave us a quote for the walls and the attic. The attic had 2-4 inches of insulation while CPA recommends 13.5 inches. Our attic definitely needed some attention too. He explained how the walls cost much more to insulate but he really thinks we could get the best value just doing the attic which will not only cost less but would also cool the entire house, not just the rooms we added the wall insulation to. He explained how if we got attic insulation, we may not even want wall insulation, so he recommended we wait on the walls, and he could come back later if we decided we still wanted them done. The team, Manuel and Mari, came over and got to work within 2 days. They were both so very nice, friendly and professional. They wrapped my furniture and the floors to protect it from any dust or damage. They even brought corner protectors to protect my walls from any potential damage. They had all the professional machinery and tools needed to get the attic done quickly and correctly. In the end I had 17-18 inches of insulation in my attic. They quickly cleaned up and even vacuumed although there was not much of any mess I could even see. The team worked with me on filling out the rebate from CPS and even worked it out from our estimate. We didn't even know there was a rebate available. It felt like we were dealing with family even though we didn't know them before we made that call. We immediately felt a difference in the house and now that it's the day after it's amazing how much cooler the house is, and my AC is not having to work so hard. I don't even feel like the walls needed to be insulated anymore! He was right! There are so many companies that would have jumped at the chance to just charge me for the walls and attic, but Manuel was so honest it really blew us away. If we decide later, we want to add insulation to the walls we know exactly who we will be calling. If anyone needs any insulation work done, we definitely recommend Insulation Works!"

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in El Paso, TX

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
