"We purchased an older home in Trestle Glen a few years back knowing that at some point we'd either have to move or bite the bullet and replace the old, worn out rear deck. After putting aside some money we started calling up contractors, and from the moment we met Todd we knew were going to be in good hands. He's been extremely responsive via text and email and was a pleasure to work with throughout the course of our four-month project. This job was particularly tough due to the tight street access and severely downsloped lot. Todd and his crew had a tough job to pull off, but their craftsmanship and attention to detail is amazing to see in the finished product. The scope of services included pouring a rebar reinforced grade beam with 8' drilled footings (during a very wet March) and erecting a three-story ~700 sq ft deck with stairs and a landing, all at about 40' below street level. Todd showed a huge amount of patience during the drawn-out owner-builder permitting process (Oakland zoning laws are no joke!) and with the bombproof, slightly overdesigned drawing set prepared by our structural engineer. The site was kept clean and the extremely professional and talented two-man crew who pulled this off (Forrest and Osmond) were as unobtrusive as they could be while drilling holes through the exterior of our house. We've had a great experience overall and I'd hire him and his crew for any home improvement project! P.S. -- the attached photo is from the last week of work before cleanup so don't mind the sawhorses."

"In addition to replacing all our windows in the house, we were starting a kitchen and masterbath remodel.  The timing of the window install was crucial to coordinate with the remodel.  We also wanted year end pricing, which was a substantial savings.  We interviewed two companies and chose SGK. We would have interviewed a third company to be thorough, but it was impossible to find another company that did new construction installation that fit our time line.  Rob Rowe (our salesperson) is an up front and "real" person.  Did not come across as a salesman or try to up sell us like the other company's representative.  The price was $8000 less than the other company for comparable windows (Anlin windows) and same type of installation.  

Our goal was to have all the windows installed before our remodel started, but the installation date was delayed due to the rain.  We were in contact with Deanne (not sure her actual title) at SGK many times to coordinate the installation and she spoke with our contractor to make sure the kitchen window was installed at the right time.  In fact, SGK installed the kitchen and bath windows earlier than the other windows to coordinate with the demo.  

This was the only real hiccup we had with the installation.  When the bathroom windows were installed, the edge of the window and sills were cut back too far due to something with the flange (sp?) nails.  This left a large gap between the window and the wood window sill.  A couple of the gaps were filled with caulking and another left with the large gap.  After discussion that this was not acceptable, a total of 3 window sills had to be replaced.  They now look good.  My take on this incident is that there was a lack of communication of why there were gaps when the windows were cut and it was not adequately communicated to us that the sills would be replaced at a later date (when the other windows were installed).  There Quality Control person (Edward) was called in right away and he came by the house multiple times  to ensure the installation was all done to our satisfaction.  The foreman on the job was Francisco.  Another worker named Manny was also very instrumental in making sure I was happy with the outcome.  
   
I was assured that this would not happen moving forward and all the remaining windows were installed without incident. We are having to do some minor paint touch up around most of the windows since caulking is used around the drywall and sills. The windows are beautiful (as much as vinyl can be) and the wood trim that was all replaced looks great.  It is primed and we still need to have it painted.  The old windows had condensation and were drafty.  The new windows have no draft and the house is noticeably warmer.  All our neighbors are commenting on our new windows.

That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. "I found these company online and I hired them to replace all the existing windows and patio doors with new fiberglass (Milgard) Ultra windows and a double French door from them a few months ago for our renovation. They provided us with an awesome price for the windows and doors themselves and for the labor of the installation as well. The representative that I spoke to was very professional and he came over to my house on the time and day that was scheduled ahead of time via the office. The people that we were involved with (including the installers and the sales man), was definitely outstanding. We had a minor issues that accorded during install, and they provided awesome post-sale support as well. I recommended them to all my friends and family as a great company for any energy efficient products. They are fantastic. And have some Sunday hours, which is absolutely a great help. We purchased 2 additional exterior doors from them and this was an add on that we decided to do in the last minute and after the work was stated. We were sure that they won’t be able to do it during the same time… but they did it and it went so smooth and excellent. Should've gone to Landmark construction energy crew for those too. You can shop with confidence with them!"

"Things went amazingly well (and not just because I have low expectations of most contractors in South Florida!) Paul is a hard worker with an artisan's eye for detail and pride in his work. His recommendations were always on target thereby avoiding expensive mistakes. If something didn't come out right, he did it over again on his own without charging extra. After tiling (bathroom or floor), he will replace tiles that don't blend in well without charge. He replaced one of them twice (with a smile.) He even moved the plumbing after the tile was done to make sure that the shower hose wouldn't get hung up on the shower control, again without charge. He is also a magician with doors, and fixed a botched Home Depot installation in about 10 minutes. I've never had a better experience with a contractor. Everything comes out great and no matter what you ask for, you'll get his standard response of "It's all good." Hire him if you can!"
