"Kevin and Nicole are the owners of this small company that insulated hundreds of homes in the DC area for a fraction of what larger companies are charging. They are also both quite personable and knowledgeable. It was easy to reach Nicole by phone and arrange a time for Kevin to come give an estimate. Kevin came and stayed while he worked up his estimate, chatting for a bit about the neighborhood. This compared to the gruff responses I got by other companies that wouldn’t even come look at my space until I was ready to sign a contract was one of the major reasons I chose Discount Energy Services. The other was, as the name implies, the incredibly low cost. It was less than half what I had received from at least two other companies. The day before or the day of, I would recommend DES call their customers. I called them the day of, unsure of the start time as well as parking. Everything worked out though, and Kevin’s two guys worked all day until about 8pm to finish the job. The main guy showed me the work and answered my questions upon completion. He also told me that it takes a little time for the insulation to settle, which I found to be true. We noticed more of a difference after a day or two. I would also recommend that DES call customers after the job to follow-up. I did this myself and had a nice talk with Nicole about other things we can do to minimize sound transferrance between our first floor and our English basement apartment. The insulation provided by DES does not completely cut out vibrational sound, nor would any insulation anyone could provide. Nicole had some great ideas for how I could take further steps. Overall, I would recommend Discount Energy Services. They do solid work with friendly, professional communication at affordable cost. Support small local businesses!"

"I recently purchased a house built in 1930 that had it's original insulation (and plenty of areas with no insulation at all). I requested multiple quotes, David was not the cheapest or most expensive, but he was by far the most thorough in his review of what I needed. We are feeling an immediate improvement in the house now that the work is done. He cleaned up well after himself. He was easy to work with and did stellar work. I highly and enthusiastically recommend him and his team."

"I've been trying to find an expert in insulation for months to come out and tell me out to properly insulate around a removed chimney and Comfenergy was the expert I needed. Even though the insulation part of the job was too small for Comfenergy (wasn't above their minimum quote value) they were happy to give me their expert advice and I appreciate the time spent as I now know what to ask the roofing contractor to do in order to insulate this correctly. Thanks!"

"We hired ROI Construction for replacement windows and were satisfied overall. They were open to price negotiation (we had competing bids) and flexible on scope, we added shutters at a reasonable cost. One install issue came up, but they resolved it within a couple weeks. Communication was steady throughout. Would definitely consider working with them again."

"In January of this year, I had another company come and take out the old insulation and install the blown-in insulation. However, they botched up the job and we found ourselves constantly vacuuming the insulation that was coming down through all the recess lights. They hadn’t bothered to seal them correctly. They also created so much mess removing the old insulation; so we had to move to the basement while cleaning up the main floor from the messy job they did. That’s when Dan was called in to remove the blown in kind and install the blue jeans insulation. Dan suggested the blue jeans batts, knowing my chemical sensitivity. I hadn’t known such insulation existed and am grateful he did to minimize exposure to chemical. I was very impressed from the moment I saw the crew wearing a suit that was clearly designed to protect them. Dan’s crew discovered that the other insulation company had not properly removed all the old insulation company, and Dan could have charged me more for the extra removal work, but he stuck with the quoted price and did an amazing job. He made sure I would not be affected by the removal of the old blown-in insulation(have asthma). This time no dust was created while removing the blown-in insulation. I can’t say enough about Dan and his crew. I am so grateful to him and his crew. Dan is honest, professional, empathetic, and is meticulous about getting job done right. I would most highly recommend him to anyone for any type of insulation work."

"The experience with USA Insulation was very positive from start to finish. From the first call, the owner, Brian, spent time discussing my questions about the company’s services and insulation products. Mike came on time for an estimate and also helpfully discussed our questions about cutting into a plaster ceiling, what would happen if asbestos or animal intrusion were discovered, covering light fixtures and other initial install work, R-levels, insulation types, etc. After getting quotes from two other well-reviewed and professional companies, we had follow-up questions for Mike about foam insulation and caulk to seal potential cracks and openings, which he helpfully answered by email. Mike was always quick to say what extra services that we would not benefit from. USA Insulation does not install access hatches after cutting a ceiling access point, unlike the other two companies. However, USA Insulation gave the most competitive bid at the outset, and gave us confidence about how they would handle anything unexpected and stay close to their estimate. Because they are popular, they could not come to Northwest DC for a couple of weeks after we decided to move forward. They were worth the wait. The two-person crew that came arrived on time, were very professional tidy, and patiently walked through my questions confirming the products being used, R-levels, light covers, and letting me take a look and take photos at each work stage. They covered floors and furniture before starting, and took out debris and vacuumed once they finished. They also installed some insulation in our basement where we had done some plumbing work behind the walls. When I asked them to add as much R-19 insulation that could fit between the pipes and wall, they obliged and carefully tucked as much as they could – a process that included contorting into awkward spaces to insert the insulation. Because our attic’s roofline and beams prevented the team from installing 4 out of the 6 light covers, Brian reduced the final cost. It has been a week since the insulation was installed, and we are pleased with the comfort of our room temperature now. We are very pleased with USA Insulation’s services."

"<strong>Background</strong> <br /> Our house in Warrenton, VA was built in 1987 and, among other things, in need of new siding, <br /> windows, and some doors.  The original siding was not the greatest (relatively thin and not insulated/foam backed) ? <br /> and had passed its life expectancy (becoming faded and brittle).  The original windows (30 of various sizes) were wood-framed and had also reached their limit on function (sticking, difficult to open and close).  We could feel the air coming in, and although double-paned, were not providing any real insulation.  The house also had some very nice double-wide French doors opening to our back deck and basement.  These doors were also wood (inside and out) and had deteriorated over time and with poor maintenance. <br /> <strong>Selection process</strong> <br /> We decided to do a single large project to replace all of the siding, windows (thirty), and doors (four ? 2 sliding, 1 French, and 1 standard).   After having done some research on windows (various manufacturers, specs, useful features <br /> and metrics) and, over the previous year and a half visiting home shows and showrooms, we began talking to two companies to provide the work.  Both of these companies were recommended to us by friends and neighbors.  We also took a <br /> look at the reviews available on Angie?s List? both companies had A+ ratings.   <br /> In late summer of 2014, we contacted the two companies to begin discussions on their products, services, and pricing.  One of <br /> these companies was Paul Henry?s Windows (who got the contract).  (We?ll call the other company, ?Company X?.)  We spent a good deal of time with both companies over several visits and had a good number of discussions spanning <br /> roughly a month and a half.  The many hours of discussion were at our behest and graciously accommodated by both <br /> companies.  We believe the amount of time spent was well worth it ? both to provide a clear understanding to the <br /> companies of what we required and wanted ? and to fully understand what the companies would provide to us.  <br />  After our initial visit/call with the companies, the first visit from each was at our house ? and lasted more than two hours.  <br /> Company X sent a salesman.  The person we met with from Paul Henry?s Windows was Paul Henry (the owner).  Both the salesman from Company X and Paul Henry were well prepared for the discussion ? bringing necessary materials, <br /> samples of products, product information, and sample contracts and paperwork.  Each answered all our questions to the extent possible, and for that which they did not know at the time, followed up later with the answers/information we wanted. As the owner (vs. a salesman) of the company, Paul Henry was more able to negotiate? make decisions, commitments, and concessions. <br /> Both companies offered quality window products.  In fact, each acknowledged the others products as being of good <br /> quality, while at the same time suggesting reasons why their own product might be a ?little bit better? for our application.  <br /> The siding product offered by Paul Henry?s was superior. <br /> In our effort to compare the two companies, we needed to get to an ?apples-to-apples? comparison.  In other words, we had to do a fair comparison of like products and services.  It took some back and forth to accomplish this, particularly with Company X, as their initial approach to the project was different than Paul Henry?s.  (In fact, Company X?s initial approach was more complex and would not have been cost-effective.)  Once we were able to get to a fair comparison ? the companies were very close in all aspects? products, services, and price.  But ? there were differences and, for our needs, one was better: Paul Henry?s <br /> Windows. <br />  The most difficult decisions we had were selecting the style and color of the siding, trim, and shutters for our house.  Paul <br /> Henry was willing and able to help us with that by giving us ideas, ?rules of thumb?, showing us various color combinations, and even making recommendations.  (Company X?s salesman was very reluctant to provide any assistance in this area.)  Paul Henry?s assistance in this was another reason that lead to our selecting them for the project. <br />   <br /> <strong>The work/performance</strong> <br /> We signed the contract with Paul Henry in the Fall of 2014.  Because of the company?s other projects, we were told that the work on our house could begin some months later ? likely early Spring.  Over the next few months Paul Henry?s kept us up to date on potential start dates.  Based on the size of our project, the company?s availability, and our schedule ? the work began in mid-March/2015.  We were told that project would take 2 and ½ weeks.  It did.  The work was completed on March 31, 2015.  We were told that the crew would arrive each day at 7:00am.  They did? on time, every day.  The team finished up each day <br /> between 4:00pm and 4:30pm.  Before the team left each day, they made sure that any debris was picked up, working areas <br /> swept and cleaned, and tools and materials stored.  Work was done Mondays through Fridays. <br /> The project crew was outstanding.  We met each worker and these were the same people that worked on the project from start to finish.  The crew?s experience spanned from relatively new to many years. Regardless of how much experience a particular person had, they all performed professionally, were polite, and a pleasure to deal with. <br /> The project was lead by Paul Henry?s brother, Brian.  We learned that Brian Henry has decades of experience with this work, a <br /> great deal of expertise, and is extremely knowledgeable.  It was also clear, as we watched the team and the work being done; that Brian provided the leadership and direction one would expect to make sure the project was successful. <br />  Regarding the work itself? it was outstanding.  The work was performed professionally and efficiently with clear purpose in <br /> approach (i.e. knowing what tasks to start when considering everything all that needed to be done).  Great attention was <br /> paid to detail ? from measuring and fit, to cutting and installing, to even wiping down/cleaning the siding once it was installed.  All of the windows were installed properly ? proper fit, sealed, and working as they should.  The siding and trim looks great.  <br /> The doors are well installed ? proper fit, sealed, trimmed properly, and working as they should. <br />  Brian Henry provided answers and solutions to the small items that came up during the project. All of these items were taken care of with no problem or hassle.   (It should be noted that there were very few items that came up during the project, <br /> as substantive and proper preliminary design and planning work was done.) <br /> Included in the project was the installation of new outside lighting (outdoor wall lamps, spot lights, and porch ceiling inserts).  <br /> Paul Henry?s did this work as well.  In addition to the necessary electrical and installation work for this, all the trim for these lamps had been ordered and worked very well.  There were a few fixture items that were needed for which the team was kind enough to pick up and bring to the job. <br /> <strong>Summary</strong> <br /> These days, it is not often that one is completely satisfied with a product or service.  With Paul Henry?s Windows,we were completely satisfied.  From beginning to end? from sales and consultation, to design and planning, to the product and service ? we have no complaints whatsoever.  Although not inexpensive, the value is clearly there. <br /> <strong>We strongly recommend Paul Henry?s Windows for the aforementioned products and services."

"I highly recommend Mann-In for any of your HVAC needs. We used them for reducting our entire home, as well as replacing our entire HVAC system and they certainly exceeded all of our expectations! Buck is one of the most knowledgable HVAC technicians I have ever met, and he carefully reviewed and explained everything to us to fully ensure of our comfort and satisfaction before any of the work was to be done. Buck performs the initial consultations and went out of his way to fully explain and resolve all questions and concerns. Chuck, the owner of the company, was fully involved throughout the entire process (from start to finish). Chuck came out to our house to perform a full inspection and came up with a very creative and well thought out design for rerouting the ducts in our home. Mann-In was able to accommodate reducting our home in ways several other highly-rated HVAC companies could not. They are true experts in HVAC and really care about the work they perform. The technicians that performed the reducting of our home and installation of the new HVAC system did a fantastic job. They were very courteous, thorough and clean (they even vacuumed the rooms they worked in daily). It has been several months with the new system and new ducts and we are beyond happy. The air is so much cleaner, temperature is fully regulated in every room, and we fully trust Mann-In to take care of us for all of our future servicing needs. Thank you Mann-In!"

"The old system didn't work properly. Dave's determined the problems and estimated that a new system would be more cost effective than repairing the old system. Prompt installation after ordering. The system performed properly after completion. <br />"
