"First of all, this review was not requested by the company.  Although the installation of our windows and doors was done in fall of 2012 we waited to post the review to see how the windows were during winter / rain season.
We got quotes from 5 different companies in the SF Bay Area and we decided to go with Five Star Windows for new construction installation of 9 windows and 3 doors in an existing stucco house. Five Star Windows offer was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. As the company sells several brands of windows Jeffrey Pickard, the owner, did not push a particular brand. Jeffrey was most thorough in his explanation of the different types of windows available and which would fit our requirements. 
We decided to buy Milgard Tuscany windows (lifetime warranty).
After all our research, I believe the best window is one that not only meets your budget and energy needs but a professional and proper installation. Five Star Windows Company comes with window installers certified by AAMA (American Architectural Manufactures Association) meaning its installation specialists are trained on windows installation techniques based on industry standards for both new construction and replacement projects.
The installation team, Ismail and Isidro, led by Jose Luis Pulido arrived to install the windows and was also very professional. They set up all of their equipment each morning, cleaned up and vacuum each afternoon. They laid down cloths for walking through to work from inside. Jose clearly explained every step in the process of installation. Ismail did a great job of matching the old stucco.
Jeffrey estimated that ours windows and doors would be installed (including re-stucco and wood trim replacement) in one week, it took them 4 days to install all windows and doors.
We are very happy with our windows and doors and we will continue to refer Five Star Windows Company to anyone that we know that needs new windows and doors.

"David and his guys did a great job renovating our master bathroom in our 1979 condo. The shower had the original tiles so it looked pretty outdated when Adam came by to give his estimate. Adam was very professional, friendly, and generous with his time. He gave suggestions and inputs design-wise, also different options if we wanted to reduce costs on certain things on our wishlist. We met with several other contractors, but we decided to go with Roys Builders because of their professionalism, and Adam always responded to our emails promptly. David was knowledgeable and he was great in helping me organized what materials I needed to buy, where to get deals, etc. Master Bathroom: They demolished the old shower and installed new shower pan, new tiles on the shower walls and floor, new shower fixtures, added shampoo niche, installed shower glass, new toilet, and new exhaust fan/heater/ light combo. They also created wood window frame to make the old aluminum sliding window looks so much nicer! They also applied wallpaper on the accent wall, and painted the rest of the walls. Guest Bathroom: They did some repairs and updated/ installed several things: new vanity, new medicine cabinet, new faucet and shower fixtures, and replaced water-damaged baseboards, painted the new baseboards, painted the wall, and also added the wood frame around the sliding aluminum window. Actually, they did many other little things/ finishing touches to make our bathrooms turned out great! All of his guys were nice and polite. We highly recommended this company"

"In addition to replacing all our windows in the house, we were starting a kitchen and masterbath remodel.  The timing of the window install was crucial to coordinate with the remodel.  We also wanted year end pricing, which was a substantial savings.  We interviewed two companies and chose SGK. We would have interviewed a third company to be thorough, but it was impossible to find another company that did new construction installation that fit our time line.  Rob Rowe (our salesperson) is an up front and "real" person.  Did not come across as a salesman or try to up sell us like the other company's representative.  The price was $8000 less than the other company for comparable windows (Anlin windows) and same type of installation.  

Our goal was to have all the windows installed before our remodel started, but the installation date was delayed due to the rain.  We were in contact with Deanne (not sure her actual title) at SGK many times to coordinate the installation and she spoke with our contractor to make sure the kitchen window was installed at the right time.  In fact, SGK installed the kitchen and bath windows earlier than the other windows to coordinate with the demo.  

This was the only real hiccup we had with the installation.  When the bathroom windows were installed, the edge of the window and sills were cut back too far due to something with the flange (sp?) nails.  This left a large gap between the window and the wood window sill.  A couple of the gaps were filled with caulking and another left with the large gap.  After discussion that this was not acceptable, a total of 3 window sills had to be replaced.  They now look good.  My take on this incident is that there was a lack of communication of why there were gaps when the windows were cut and it was not adequately communicated to us that the sills would be replaced at a later date (when the other windows were installed).  There Quality Control person (Edward) was called in right away and he came by the house multiple times  to ensure the installation was all done to our satisfaction.  The foreman on the job was Francisco.  Another worker named Manny was also very instrumental in making sure I was happy with the outcome.  
   
I was assured that this would not happen moving forward and all the remaining windows were installed without incident. We are having to do some minor paint touch up around most of the windows since caulking is used around the drywall and sills. The windows are beautiful (as much as vinyl can be) and the wood trim that was all replaced looks great.  It is primed and we still need to have it painted.  The old windows had condensation and were drafty.  The new windows have no draft and the house is noticeably warmer.  All our neighbors are commenting on our new windows.
