"I had my SC evaporator unit freeze up right before the temps started reaching 100. I called that night, and they came out the next morning to investigate. ( had to wait for the unit to defrost before they could diagnose it) We discovered that it was low on Freon, which caused the freezing, but when we opened up the cover to the evaporator, it was completely rusted. The lack of airflow caused the unit to rust out. This was the original AC installed 24 years ago. They also discovered that the builder undersized all the duct-work. the size of the return, couldn't supply enough air to the system. (yes, i checked the math, and they were correct). They gave me several options on replacing the unit, and I went with the most efficient, highest SEER rating, since we're planning on staying in the house at least another 10 years. They replaced both the furnace, and the AC unit, and ran all new, larger duct-work, they arrived promptly at 8 AM, and the crew finished up around 6 PM. There was an issue with the mainboard controller (factory problem), and they followed up and replaced it. The whole crew was polite, friendly, and cleaned up after themselves. The new unit is much quieter, the airflow downstairs is dramatically better, and hopefully, I'l start to see those energy savings in my next Dominion Power bill :)"

"Rep was courteous and spent a lot of time with me but I decided to go with another company. I had researched heat pumps and I knew what product I wanted but this rep made a comment on the product that I knew was wrong so I decided to go with someone I felt was more knowledgeable.

"The gentleman who performed the inspection was friendly and professional.  However, he seems to have exaggerated any issues with the older of our two furnaces.  I am not sure whether this was due to inexperience or a desire to sell us a new system.  He recommended very costly replacement of one of our whole heating and cooling systems.  He also took a very long time to do his inspection for what in my opinion was not a lot of result.  We eventually had a second opinion on the "failing" system, and we were told it was fine and not to do anything to it.  In the meantime, One Hour tried several times to reschedule the sales pitch for the new system with us.  I can't say for sure, as our system is definitely older, but it felt a little bit like we were being scammed.  Just be careful and always get a second opinion, especially for any large-scale items.

"The A/C at our rental property was running, but not keeping the house cool. I called five different A/C companies that had A ratings on Angie's list and asked how much they charged for the service fee and how much they charged per pound for R22. Three of the companies including K&J) told me their rates directly and two told me that they "bundle" the R22 cost with labor costs. I appreciated that K&J were up front with their costs and they had the best rates. The technicians showed up on time and were very professional. They immediately checked the unit outside and the air handler inside. Both were frozen up with ice. They turned off the unit and we waited for it to thaw out. While waiting the tech's (Cory and Mark) were very jovial and pleasant to talk to. Once the unit thawed out they hooked up the gages and diagnosed the problem as low refrigerant. They showed me on the gage were the correct level should be and where my unit was. They kept me informed the whole time and were very thorough. They ended up having to clean the coil in order to get the unit to take in the refrigerant. They told me the cost before they did it and asked me if I wanted them to proceed. Once the cioils were clean they added 1lb of R22 (in .5 lb increments). Then they went inside and checked the vent with a laser thermometer to make sure the temp was in the proper range. I was able to pay credit right there on the spot and they gave me a discount for using Angie's list. I would highly recommend K&J Mechanical. They did excellent work on time and at a great price. There was even a follow up call to see if I was satisfied with the service.
