During his estimate, he reported that the water damage to the floor was probably coming from the subfloor and should be addressed prior to his repair. He was spot on. Water that leaked from exterior French Doors had rotted a considerable area of the subfloor. His suggestion saved me time, because I was able to replace the subfloor and doors prior to his efforts. "I bought a deal through AL for a new roof, based on their reviews. These folks were terribly unprofessional, always late (sometimes days), didn't call when they said they would, and did shoddy work. They asked if I wanted a specific drip edge on my roof, which I said yes to, then they failed to install it. It was like pulling teeth to get them back to do it, and within a few weeks, half of it had blown off. The folks who are fixing it said it was affixed with one nail and silicone. In addition, they broke, chipped and cracked so much of my siding around the roof, I'm having to get the whole area replaced. I'm no roof expert, but when I climbed up to deal with a gutter issue, it became clear to me that the decking they had installed the roof over was water damaged or rotted at the edges. They never advised me of this or gave me the option to replace it. It has taken me two years to get a contractor scheduled to fix all of the problems they left me with, and it's going to cost thousands to fix. I wish I'd just paid someone time/materials to do it right from the get-go. Do yourself a favor and skip these folks, even if it means paying a little more. You'll save in the end. I'm not looking forward to learning what else fails over the coming years."

Insulation installs or upgrades FAQs
R-value measures how well insulation resists heat flow, which directly affects your home's energy efficiency. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation. By calculating the R-value needed for your specific climate and home design, you can choose the right insulation materials and thickness to keep your home comfortable and reduce heating and cooling costs.
You don't need to remove your old insulation before adding new insulation, as long as it's in good condition. Adding new insulation over existing materials can improve your home's energy efficiency. For example, you can install blown-in insulation around fiberglass batts or place rigid insulation over existing layers to enhance the overall R-value. However, if your current insulation is wet, moldy, or damaged, you should remove it to avoid health risks and maintain optimal performance.
Installing insulation typically takes five to twelve hours for batts or boards, and two to five hours for spray foam or blown-in insulation. The exact time depends on the type of material and your home's layout. If you need to remove old insulation, have a larger home, or hard-to-reach areas, the project may take longer.
The International Association of Certified Home Inspectors has said foam board insulation can last up to 100 years if properly installed. Some insulation materials can suffer from water damage or start to sag over many years, thus reducing their insulating ability. Foam boards shouldn't suffer from sagging but have the potential to get damaged. Any broken pieces of foam board can reduce its insulating effectiveness.
