"Good reliable company who I’ve dealt with for quite some time. Reasonably priced I’ve had the annual contract with them for a couple of years. I just had my furnace serviced for the winter. Christian did the service. Very pleasant young man knowledgeable "

"Love the whole team at Energy Monster! Jim did a very thorough Mass Save Audit for us and helped us figure out why our house was so cold in the winter (zero insulation in our 1870s walls!) and helped us set up having Pat and his insulation crew come out to make things right. Everyone was professional, efficient, and kind. The insulation crew finished in half the time I thought they needed, wrapping up early each day and cleaning everything up so there was almost no evidence they had been there! And our house feels warmer and quieter already -- amazing! Also a special thank you to Tawny and Courtney at the office -- they very quickly resent the knob & tube form that my electrician needed to sign when I couldn't find the original PDF in my email. They were professional and helpful when I was panicking. Thank you! I really love working with this company, and I look forward to having them come back to install mini-splits and solar panels! Thanks, Energy Monster."

"I could not be more pleased with this company or this service. I found them here on AL and with a rebate, it was a great deal. When I called, the woman who answered was extremely polite and helpful and took the time to go over the entire audit process with me (she wasn't rushed as some receptionists are). They sent an email to confirm the date and time. <br /> When the team arrived, they were on time and each of them introduced themselves by name to me before coming into my house. They were all very polite and courteous. The leader (I can't remember his name) gave me an overview of the process and explained things as they went. Basically, they simulate high winds around the house and then monitor for where leaks are. My house is relatively new and has no basement, so it was already pretty efficient, but there were some major leaks by the front door and attic door, which they sealed on the spot. They also showed me that I could hold my hand over any electrical socket, even ones on interior walls, and feel the "wind"--which means air was leaking out those! So I plugged them all with those little socket protectors. The guys also took me into the attic and showed me some leaks, and fixed them--and fixed the attic door by adding a little latch to help it stay closed. All in all, they reduced the amount of air getting into my house by 500 (I forget the units). It was clear they didn't just make up this number--they showed me the number after the first test and then after the second test (when they had treated the problem areas). <br /> I also got a few free CFLs and LEDs, and bought 3 more LEDs since they were at a great price. They left some rebates with me, although all my appliances are new so I didn't need anything.  <br /> When they left, they each said goodbye and were very professional until the end. They were respectful in my home and asked before opening any closets or doors, etc. I felt very safe with them here, which is not always the case when people are in your home working. I think the price is a fantastic one, especially with the AL rebate that was on when I scheduled. I feel I got my money's worth. My husband and I had tried to plug some leaks ourselves, but we didn't really know what we were doing and we had no way to measure if we were really helping anything. This audit gave me hard numbers to look at and I was impressed that they did the fixes on-site (included in the price--for instance, they plugged a whole around my front door frame by installing a clear plastic barrier). It was a great deal and a great experience. Highly recommend! <br /> Bonus--when we resell this house in a few years, I will definitely list that we got a professional energy audit performed on it and that it's very efficient. Definitely a selling point! <br />"

"I can clearly see why this company has a solid A rating and has received superior service awards. Commitment to customer service is unparalleled. From the initial inquiry when we first started communicating with them, we were immediately impressed with responsiveness, professionalism, but most importantly......NO PRESSURE sales. In the end, they were also cheaper for the same exact unit we went with compared to other estimates we had received. My husband was so grateful to Quentin when he first came out as he was extremely thorough and informative. This was our first time buying a furnace and he really educated us on the process. Following the initial meeting, we had an energy audit and central air serviced, before finally having the furnace and humidifier installed. Very professional, clean, and polite employees and VERY punctual. **I want to add something else: our furnace was installed on a Thursday a few days before headed into a heat-wave. Over that weekend, my elderly mother's central air unit stopped working. Note that my mother is not a customer of Nutmeg. I called on Monday morning and spoke with a very friendly female about my concerns with my mother being at home with no central air during the heatwave. That call was made at 7:40 am and by 4:00 pm that day, they had fixed her air. I don't know where else you will find service like that. A few days later.......WE received a thank you note from the company/Quentin. Who should be thanking who here ????? Customers (both US and my MOTHER) for life."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Hartford, CT

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
