"We bought a new construction and McCrea installed the HVAC. Home inspection identified the heat pump was not working in Oct. 2020. McCrea identified it was due to leaking refrigerants and promise fixed the issue. Our electric bill was extremely high the following two months and the heat pump was not cooling in Spring 2021. McCrea sent technician and again repaired the system. Bought their maintenance plan. We had 4+ repairs plus regular tune up in the past two years. Last week the heat pump stopped cooling again. We are out of labor warranty and charge us with $89 diagnostic cost after membership discount. It took three days for them to send someone to check while we suffering 90F in our house. They identified the compressor dead and need replacement. They charge $1900 for labor after membership discount. Most likely cause of the compressor failure is "suicide" with assistance. Low refrigerant at beginning and over change in later repairs likely contributed the short life."

"Customer service was excellent. A very nice and pleasant receptionist took time to talk to me and not act hurried. She was understanding about lack of money living off only SS#. She sent out Charles and Joe. Very nice and professional. The problem took some time to find, but they were patient and professional. They found the issue, a burned out capacitor. They had a spare and installed it. They gave recommendations for the future. The bill was less than what was stated. I can't say enough good about this company. Highly recommend Aerotherm HVAC from Falling Waters, W.Va. Thanks for Blessing us, don and benji"

"They did come out the same day and fix the issue, which is why they are not a 1-star overall. They also charged $200 to switch a thermostat wire and change a few configurations on the thermostat, which seems way overpriced to me. I am not sure how much it would have cost to use another company, I know HVAC residential is always an expensive call, but they said $80 on the phone to check it out, he was done in about 30 minutes and I spent $200. You can decide for yourself."

FAQs for heat pump repair or service projects in Martinsburg, WV

Heat pumps move air to cool or warm your home during different seasons. In cold weather, they extract heat from the outdoors and bring it inside to warm your home. In warm weather, they remove heat from your home to keep it cool. This efficient heat transfer increases indoor comfort, improves energy efficiency, and reduces the need for additional heating systems.

Replacing a heat pump costs between $4,200 and $7,900. The actual cost depends on the type of heat pump. Geothermal models are the most expensive to replace, with the price of the unit plus labor ranging between $6,000 and $20,000. Air source models cost between $4,500 and $8,000 to replace, while the replacement costs for a mini split unit run between $1,300 and $8,000.

The average heat pump is designed to last about 14 years, roughly the same as a central air conditioning system (12 to 15 years). Newer models can last 20 years or more. How long your heat pump lasts depends on how frequently you use it and whether you perform routine maintenance like annual tuneups.
