"Spencer went out of his way to schedule my project because I was feeling quite ill and thought the illness might be from mold spores found in lab tests."

"Terrific - huge relief! Wish now that I had not procrastinated getting an estimate. I simply had no time previously and now that I had 2 weeks' time off for the Christmas holiday season, decided I would undertake what I assumed would be the unpleasant task of researching companies, securing an estimate, and beginning to face what I was sure was a significant mold problem. I have a 58 year-old home (which we love and hope to remain in forever - as we moved here for the ranch layout and hardwoods - perfect for 2 family members in wheelchairs). Unfortunately, our beautiful but older home has old, corroding copper pipes in the walls - and pipe in the wall beneath kitchen sink had a few leaks that leaked over time into the wall. After plumbers cut open sheetrock to repair sections of leaking copper pipe (twice) ...as the home warranty plan we have is great and covers removal and replacement of corroded sections of copper pipe for a small co-pay (but only covers removal & replacement of a few inches of pipe around the corroded area rather than covering replacement of the entire 5 ft run of pipe) and we've had a couple sections of pipe in the wall under sink replaced. Each time a section of pipe was replaced, plumbers opened up more sheet rock in the area to expose the pipe - which also exposed mold on a 2 x 4 and insulation in that area. Plumbers had also quoted cost of replacing the entire run of pipe - just in case I ever decide to replace my lower kitchen cabinets, noting that would be a good time to get rid of the entire run of copper pipe. So - back to the mold issue I had avoided for so long, assuming it would be expensive. After getting a few names of mold remediation companies from Angie's List, I quickly read the reviews & noticed several reviews for Advanta Clean of Kansas City mentioned this was not a company looking to secure work if professional assistance was not truly needed and often simply provide a recommendation and advice on how the homeowner can take care of their smaller-than-anticipated work on their own and avoid costly repairs. Reading the reviews provided some relief, and I hoped to get a visit and free estimate from Kevin, as reviews of him were really good. What I actually experienced when Kevin visited our home can't easily be described. My worries and concerns were immediately alleviated. Kevin was highly professional, describing national guidelines recommendations, noting our issue was less substantial than we had thought, and provided 3 different approaches that could be taken - detailing each. The first approach (and one he recommended) was free - simply cleaning up the area ourselves with vinegar and allow it to dry well, along with using a dehumidifier in the house (as humidity was reading high). The second approach (if uncomfortable cleaning the small area of mold on our own) was in the $350 range plus cost for asbestos testing (necessary in a home of our age to ensure crews would be safe while completing repairs) with asbestos testing through an independent company of our choosing (though Kevin could provide info if needed) running ~$400 (this entire second approach was deemed an unnecessary but available option by Kevin), and the third approach was ~$1200 (which covered a significant amount of work...removing lower kitchen cabinets, all sheetrock & insulation behind them, cleaning up the area and using HEPA fans) which Kevin noted was an 'aggressive' but available approach - should we prefer that. I had feared hearing $5k to $6k - so had done nothing for far too long. I wish I had called earlier!! I now have a plan that costs me nothing for now - which I feel safe with (priceless). And, since I already intended to pull out & replace lower kitchen cabinets after saving up a bit (& also replace the 5 ft run of copper pipe in the wall that started all these issues) I now have a solid idea of what it will cost to do the level of agressive mold remediation that I prefer to do (pulling out/checking/replacing insulation near the area) - once I'm ready to be without a functioning kitchen for a bit. Meanwhile, I am very comfortable managing the small area of visible mold on my own. And, will definitely be calling Kevin at AdvantaClean whenever I get around to replacing my lower kitchen cabinets, to do the level of unnecessary but precautionary checking I'd prefer to do. An outstanding, highly professional company that I will be using in the future, and would recommend to friends and family. THANKS!!"

"Highly HIGHLY recommend Spencer and his team. I had been having some severe respiratory issues for several months after a water damage and his easy to read test results confirmed my suspicions of mold. He immediately contacted my insurance company to advocate for housing arrangements for me and my pets. The treatment was quick compared to old methods and my health started making huge improvements in just a few days time. That alone was so worth it - beyond grateful to be getting my home and my health back."

"I reached out in the morning after my plumber repaired a water line that burst. Joel arrived that afternoon and immediately got the drying process started. We were able to get the affected area fully dried within 4 days and avoided major demolition. I was pleased with the professionalism, communication, quality of work and good outcome. Would work with them again."

"We had the mold inspection done and weâ d had everything torn apart so he could see everything. He explained what it was and what his part of the project would. He told the price right away. Didnâ t hide anything. Not like some people hold on let me call my boss let me figure it out. He told exactly. It was great. Well it was t free𠤣. But a good price for all the that work. He checked downstairs pipes and flooring that led from there because we had a small leak that led us to find some mold in the shower. He checked everything that any water could get down the walls or ceiling. He did say a mold test in the air would be good because some of the mold was dangerous. So of course we had home come back. He checked everywhere he had told us he would. Three major areas. And you know what, unlike everyone elseâ s weâ ve had to do odd jobs yhat find stuff wrong, he said alll the air tested perfect! Even the bathroom. He did recommend spraying something in it to kill it right away. The wasnâ t why we. called she was all moldy behind tiles. So he wasnâ t going behind his work boundaries and doing anything. The mold wasnâ t hurtful but spray where the leak was. Hereâ s my estimate I have now. He sent us the full estimate and mild text. His estimate was just what he told us. His name was Jasen because I said anytime we call companies they send someone different we donâ t ask their name. He had given me their business card in arrival. He said if we request him theyâ ll get him the. Itâ s so much easier know them know a little bit about the house. He told us when he left I left you our card. If you need anything just ask for me. Iâ m a person who asks lots of questions about whatâ s wrong and ang everything. Call BLUE SKY GREEN EARTH 913-209-5691 Make sure you ask for Jasen"

FAQs for indoor air quality testing projects in Overland Park, KS

You should test your home's air quality if you or your family experience health problems like allergies or respiratory issues, as these could be linked to indoor contaminants. Also, consider testing if you're concerned about mold, radon, carbon monoxide, or if you've recently had home construction, demolition, excavation, or remodeling that could have released chemicals into your indoor air.

An indoor air quality test typically takes one to three hours to complete. After the inspection, you'll receive a detailed written report within two to 10 days. The evaluation includes comprehensive air sampling from all designated areas in your home. Your specialist will review the findings with you and provide clear guidance on steps to take if any issues are found, helping ensure your indoor environment meets health and safety standards.

A certified indoor air quality consultant or inspector is the right professional to perform your indoor air test. While some home inspectors have certifications, they often subcontract this specialized work to trained professionals with advanced tools. This expert will thoroughly evaluate air samples from every area in your home and clearly explain the findings to you. Be sure to confirm your tester's credentials before scheduling your service.
