"After purchasing a home from a family with pets, i knew the ducts should be cleaned. One company blew me off after seeing how dirty the vents were after quoting nearly $1000 for their service and replacing my "coils". DustBusters came in a timely manner with their latest technique to clean. Vacuumes with brushes, most other companies use, leave a lot behind and is more work. DustBusters use a air hose system with a massive vacuum tied into the main ducts to keep it brief. Not only did a great job, but for half the cost of the other guys. The tech who came said my "coils" did not need replacing the other company tried selling me (big money). The owner's son came and was very professional and modest. Use DustBusters, worth every penny."

"Steve contacted me on the same day that I submitted a request for an estimate by phone.  He came for the estimate within a few days and the work was done in 10 days after I made an initial call.  He was very punctual and his work was very thorough.  Best of all, he sent me very frequent e-mail messages about his schedule, confirmation, and so forth.  I definitely recommend him for small or large demolition work.  "

"Jim is local.  It went great. Jim Ferrell is a professional of the highest caliber. Responded quickly, took care of my problems, and advised me as to better means of protection than I had. He came back a second time to uninstall software that I purchased that did not provide adequate protections and installed free software that would do the job.  He did the work through remote connection, but is available on site if necessary.
For those people needing help on getting red of malware, viruses , etc. on your computer,  Jim is local, better than all thse remote out of state location providers, is a mature, highly trained professional in this area.
If you go to local computer stores you get very young people that can do a basic job, but are no where near the professional level of Jim.
I highly recommend Jim to anyone that needs these type services.

"During a routine furnace check, our technician told us that our ducts were filthy and causing us to go through furnace filters too quickly well as making the  furnace work harder than necessary. He recommended a duct-cleaning service that was going to charge $500-plus for the job, but Angie's List had a deal for $239 for Lowe's, so I decided to give it a try.
Lowe's contacted us quickly to make an appointment. The day of the service, the tech called when he was 30 minutes away to let us know he'd be arriving on time or a bit early. Upon arrival, he walked me through the process, which involved cutting and then patching entry points for his vacuum equipment in the cold air return and the main heat supply.
The total job took about two hours and resulted in a rather disturbing amount of collected dust and pet hair (a rolling trashcan's worth). He showed me the ducts afterwards to demonstrate how clean they were (very--they'd been caked with grime previously), packed up his equipment and our dust, and was on his way.
I would definitely hire Lowe's again, and certainly won't wait another decade between duct cleanings.

"Had my gas furnace and whole house air conditioning unit replaced. Took two full days. The installers were proficient and knew what they were doing (especially Rich Fee). They took the time to explain the work and the new system features including new digital thermostats. All in all, I was very pleased with the service and the price."

"I had a lot of additional cost. It ended up at $1500. They only cleaned three, for the big deal. And then, I had a thing that they put in to make sure that the air stays clean. They said I had a humidifier on my furnace and they said that it had to come off. And then, they said you can get a much better one and then they kind of disappeared and they didn't talk about it or really sit down and have a conversation with me. I'm not even sure why they had to take it off or what they did."

"The service was fantastic. These guys are the best. They were very thorough and gave good suggestions on how to improve the efficiency. They sealed things up and caulked and put in weather stripping. This particular crew has an inspector that checks the work. The inspector said I really enjoy checking this companies work as he said they are very efficient and they do great work. They were very nice and knowledgeable to work with. This was part of a program in Connecticut where they will replace up to 40 light bulbs with compact florescent bulbs. They will change out light fixtures with LED lights and the cost was far better than I could have gotten myself. They run a test before the work is started and then they do a test afterwards to show how much more efficient your home is. They give a report showing how efficient your home is and making other suggestions. They also give you discounts on making your home more efficient within a certain amount of time from the report."

"The owner and customer service manager were both very responsive to issues raised during the installation of the system. They did everything they could to make sure I was a satisfied customer. The reason I could not give they company A's in the areas of quality and professionalism was the number of issues that needed to be raise during the installation and items they did not check out prior to leaving after the installation.
This company was chosen to install the system was because their quote was the most feasible placement of the oil burner, oil tank, vent system, and hot water tank received. Their price was comparable to other quotes.
This new system was purchased using a zero interest loan sponsored by the local electrical utility. Work was started after a credit check was run and an initial deposit was paid for items not not covered by the loan. The lead installer was knowledgeable and made me comfortable as the work started. We reviewed the work that needed to be done and work commenced. A team of four people began the install.
The first "issue" arose when they began to connect the hot water tank using 1/2" copper pipe. The previous system was connected to the house with 3/4". When this was brought this to the attention of the lead installer he was quick to call the office and get the needed materials and the water system was attached as requested with 3/4" pipe.
During the process of connecting the new heating system to existing piping, one of the workers incorrectly connected two pipes together and cause a water leak which damaged some materials in storage shelves. The owner was quick to compensate for the damaged materials.
At the end of the second day of installation the system was checked out and the workers left.
Soon after the workers left we discovered there was no hot water. The new system had a locked water mixing valve above the hot water tank. It was set to 70 degrees. I could have called the company, but chose to look up how to unlock the mixing valve and adjust to supply hot water to the house. I was able to adjust the mixing valve which allowed the tank to supply hot water to the house.
The installed heating system was a two zone system. Later that first evening one set of rooms were getting cold while the other set of rooms were getting hot. Upon further examination I determined the thermostats were reversed. After switching the two thermostat connections at the oil burner the room temperatures returned to desired temperatures.
When the hot water tank was first pressurized no water leaks was observed, however, during the next few days, a number of leaking joints were identified. A different employee install the plumbing of the hot water tank. It took another employee to arrive and take apart and reconnect the connections to stop all the leaks. I was told that the pipes were not adequately tightened at the first install. To the company's credit response time to my report of leaks was fast.
Two bills were received from the company for parts and labor to fix the water tank leaks. I called the owner of the company and the charges were reversed.
A few days later I noticed the circulator pump to the hot water tank was running and the boiler temperature was low. The house was not calling for heat. After some research I found that the boiler control unit was not set for an indirect water heater. So as long as the house did not call for heat, the oil burner did not turn on to supply heat to the hot water storage tank. The position of a switch in the control unit needed to be changed. Once changed the burner turned on supplying heat to the hot water storage tank.
The exhaust for the oil burner is out the side of the house using a power vent system. A few days after the install, I realized that the venting fan was running for an extended period of time (approximately 11 minutes) after the oil burner shut off. After reading the manufacturer literature, manufacturer recommends the vent fan to run for a period of 3 to 5 minutes after the oil burner shuts off. The run time of the vent fan was reduced from 11 minutes down to the 3 to 5 minute period as the manufacture recommends.
The oil burner purchased included a control unit that can be adjusted to provide increased energy efficiency. This feature was discovered as part of reading the control unit manual to solve the water heater - oil burner problem (see above). The company left the system where the control unit did not provide any added efficiency. After experimenting with the efficiency setting, a "good" trade-off has been reached between oil burner responsiveness and the house need for heat.
A few weeks after the install, the fire department came out the inspect the system. The system failed the inspection. The oil burner exhaust flue was within 18"  of combustible materials. Board needed to be installed above the flue pipe where the wood  floor joists were withing the 18" of the flue pipe. The company was quick to respond to the situation.
I am extremely happy with the new heating system, power vent, and hot water storage tank. I would have preferred not to have raised the issues and work thru the problems I had to with the install and start-up of the system. It is important to me to be associated with a company that will work thru issues and problems to satisfy the customer.

"New installation went well. I was a little upset that only 50% was covered being that the unit was 19 years old. I'm sure that parts for something that old would be hard to find. Replacement was recommended."

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Riverton, CT

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
