"We bought a fixer-upper house on the Outer Banks this spring, and one of the things we knew needed major attention when we bought it was the HVAC. Ron took the time to analyze our needs carefully and advise us on how to proceed. We had to wait a few weeks to get it installed, but it was prime season, and they needed to schedule two men for 3.5 days to do the installation. The price was higher than we would have wished for, but I'm not downgrading them for this on Price as this was a more complicated installation than usual given our desires to relocate the heat pumps and run a new length of ductwork and our decision to go with top-line units. (They did give us alternative options at a lower price, but we were persuaded that their first proposal was their best proposal for us.) I do believe the **value** for the price paid was a solid "A" given the quality of the new HVAC units and the quality of the installation from Hugo, Johnny, and Tom. OBH&C consistently came when they promised to come--something that doesn't always happen on the Outer Banks! All the debris was cleaned up and removed. The new HVAC units are performing great. I will be happy to have OBH&C service the new units semiannually. Highly recommended.
"

"Very smooth transaction and easy to do business with. Jason was a great help. I had a small extension done on a property where foam needed to be injected between the rafters. They also did 3 interior walls for the money"

"It went great! The quote was competitive with other roofers. Honestly though, I wasn't looking for the cheapest roof/roofer. I wanted a GOOD roof and a good contractor. The person who wrote up the quote was patient and answered all my questions. The work was promptly scheduled and started on time (a little early) and done according to the quote. The project Manager (Clint) was kind, patient, and always available to answer questions or address concerns. I don't think I got his voice mail even once. The roof was done according to the contract, no shortcuts and every detail taken care of as stated. I'm very happy with their service, promptness, professionalism, attention to detail and customer concerns and most importantly, with the new roof. Would definitely use Baker again."

"Overall, my experience was decent. I needed someone to just get me by with my roof and it accomplished that. The key that I learned was you need to have all the equipment/materials purchased in advance and really know what you need done. Otherwise, it's somewhat a paid estimate. The gentleman I dealt with was great though - he came out once, gave me an idea of what I needed and then came back later that week. That may or may not happen often, but don't count on it and be prepared yourself. I don't think the work took 2 hours to do everything, but it did give me piece of mind knowing someone inspected all the nail pops and vulnerable areas.
I would do business with these guys again. They were prompt and reliable and I got what I needed, I'm just not in love with these types of deals since they aren't always clear.
"

"The handiman service was purchased through a Angie's list special. Response time and willingness to work were good. The light fixture was installed well enough. The closet doors required the wood to be carved out for the hinges. He was not able to complete the job. He came back a couple of days later to complete the job, and realized the replacement doors were too long and ultimately could not be installed. He provided options - either buying new doors or shaving the door down. Because of the "special" I was asked what I wanted him to do . My guess is that this individual would have been better off if he stated what his skills were and offered to do what he does best.
"

"I hate having to leave a less than excellent review but I so appreciate the time people take to share their experiences, good, bad, and average on Angie's List. I just joined so I didn't check out this company before using them. I will begin by saying that the water mitigation dept. of CRC was excellent in responsiveness. We had a hot water pipe burst at 3 am above my closet on the second floor. We were awakened by a large picture hitting the floor as it fell from a saturated wall. We quickly turned off the water and put buckets under the dripping ceilings. We called our insurance company the next morning and our agent recommended CRC. We called and they were onsite within the hour (about 8:30am). It was almost too much to believe because there were probably 7-8 guys ripping out the ceiling and moldings and installing huge dehumidifiers, floor mats, and fans. It broke my heart to see my crown molding and wainscoting ripped out and hacked up- what a waste! They said it had to be done to prevent mold, but that they would be sure to replace it just like it was and I had no reason at that time not to believe them. The project manager was very reassuring and explained everything in detail. He spoke with our insurance company and for some reason they were given the go ahead to do the estimate for the reconstruction instead of an adjustor. OK, big red flags should have gone up but they assured me this happens all the time. Their estimator came at the end of the next week. We walked carefully around and pointed out each of the damaged areas. The estimator assured me repeatedly that the work would be done right and we would be pleased and it was guaranteed for three years. After several days my insurance company called and said the estimate was too high so they would need to have an adjustor come out after all. Why they didn't send an adjustor to start with is beyond me. All the insurance adjustor did was basically confirm that the CRC quote was good although we found several areas where the CRC estimator had made mistakes (like carpet replacement for $0.62/sq ft in one bedroom and $3.43/sq ft. in another room for the same carpet). Obviously the adjustor didn't go over the CRC quote carefully. So after that, CRC never contacted us again. I called and was told the structural project manager would be in touch to schedule the work to be done. They even left a lockbox on our door so they could access our house when needed. It is now October and we still have not heard from them. We contacted the water mitigation project manager to ask him to please come get the lockbox. At least he responded. He removed it without knocking (or maybe I wasn't home). He was a really nice guy but the other part of the company he works for is not up to his standard. So, be aware- CRC- great for water mitigation but don't count on them to follow up with repairs. I rated them a C because unfortunately I think this is an average experience when it comes to dealing with home repair. What a shame. No wonder there are so many DIYer's.
"

"The project I have is on going renovating a 1897 homestead. The insulation was none to very poor at best. I researched and found Southern Foam to fit my demands for this house. I wanted solid, clean and effective insulation and cost mattered.
My contact is Harold Baker of Southern Foam and Insulation. Icynene is the product the company handles. My research found nothing on the market that could compare the quality, price and standards. The professional manners of Harold Baker are top notch. If you can beat the standards, quality, price and mannerism it will not be in this lifetime. The quality of work is rapid and clean. Harolds' crew comes in asks specifics and works around any contingencies that arise. They clean up and are out of your way in no time. It is exiting to watch the transformation of the house in just a few minutes. This is my fourth experience with Harold Baker and Southern Foam.
I suggested Icynene to my neighbor. She had the basement ceiling, (the under side of the floors) foamed with Icynene. She is so glad to have quite warm insulated floors in the winter."
