Of all the home improvement companies who have worked on many different jobs at this house in six years, Madrona takes the cake for providing the best quality work and amazing customer service. Madrona was the only company who gave us a thorough plan to not only put insulation in the attic but also to improve ventilation and ensure all roof penetrations were properly sealed. They added 1300 ft of R-44 blown fiberglass insulation over existing rock wool insulation that was fine but inadequate, to bring it to R-49. They fashioned a new wood access panel to the attic with a huge covered batt of fiberglass insulation fastened on the upper side and it feels like opening a secure air lock on the rare occasions where we've looked up into the attic. After they sealed all air penetrations in the attic they were very happy to show us what they did before adding the insulation. They installed insulation shield around the chimney, six roof jacks for proper venting, and vented kitchen and bath fans to dampered roof jacks, insulated with R-11 fiberglass batts. Four years later, the attic looks fantastic - there is no sign of any moisture and the blown in insulation looks as fluffy and lofty as when it was newly installed. I mistakenly thought one of the bath vents had been filled with insulation foam, causing the fan to not work very well, and Madrona sent someone out the next day even though the job was completed four years ago. Curt investigated and then politely and patiently explained that the side vent had been replaced with a better roof vent. And indeed, the fan was blowing air through the roof vent they installed and it is the old fan that is the problem, not Madrona's work. It would be wonderful if all companies stood behind their work this way."

"Classic Pest Control and Insulation is fantastic to work with. We dealt with many other companies and contractors as part of a bigger project, and Classic was clearly the best. We called them in after checking out some other companies. They were by far the most knowledgeable and professional and did the best work. We originally hired them to remove and reinstall our attic insulation as part of a bigger project (mold remediation). However, we ended up hiring them to take care of our crawl space and pest control when another well-known company failed to follow up and complete the job properly. They removed, cleaned, reinsulated, and provided pest remediation for both our attic and crawlspace. "It was wonderful, very professional, and went way beyond what I expected. I got 3 bids last summer to replace my single-pane windows. I chose Einar Johanson because the rep, Doug Tuft, explained things the most clearly, explained why my slider to the balcony barely worked, and had a very good price,about 8% under the other bids. I appreciated how clearly he explained the different options, and when I called/emailed, he got back to me promptly. <br> <br> <br>Because I live in a condo and EJ was not the preferred provider, I had to go through the board of the condo to get permission to use EJ. There was some confusion and misinformation from the manager of the condo, and in the end, after emails back and forth, a staff member of EJ came to a board meeting to explain how they would install the windows. The confusion was cleared up, and in January the work was done. A second measuring was done for the windows, and when they installers came, they were quite professional, very clean, and finished the work in one day! Although I was told I may need to put some touch up paint on the outside walls, I don't think it needs to be done because the installers were so professional. I love my new sliding door and windows, and my condo is much less drafty!"

"The people were very professional. They arrived on time and completed the work that was commissioned. They placed runners on the floor where they needed to come into the house to keep the floor clean. They also cleaned and vacuumed before they departed. Insulation was added to my attic. They paid attention to the details. Skylights were insulated and tied as were the exhaust vents. Under the house, heat ducts were re-attached to the house where they had fallen off. All seams were sealed. All ducts were totally insulated. Wayne took care of the paperwork to get a rebate from my electric company. I would totally recommend Wayne and would hire him again."

"I had renters in house in front of me who threw garbage off their deck, had large dogs...never cleaned up messes, garbage and junk littered the yard, etc.  <br /> I started having rat problems and when the pest control rep. came out and went under the house and attic, he said I  needed to have both areas cleaned out because of all the rodent feces, etc. there. I had one estimate done but wanted another one so I <br /> checked Angie's list for companys that cleaned out crawl spaces and attics.  I read all the ratings and comments of people having hired these companies and chose Miguel's company, STANDARD INSULATION AND REMOVAL , INC. because of the comments made by people who had hired him. <br /> I called him right away and he came out early the next morning and gave me 2 estimates...one for the crawl space and one for the attic as I requested.  (I showed him  the first estimate and asked for an estimate for the same work)  I blanked out the name of the first company.  He gave me the estimates and explained that he used products that were as good or better and explained the procedure for removal and installation.  He answered any and all questions I had...I tend to ask lots of questions.  (His estimate was about $2000 cheaper than the first estimate) <br /> Miguel and his co-worker were out every morniing by 8am and worked all day until about 5pm.  They worked  long and hard in miserable cold, wet weather.  <br /> I can't say enough about the work ethic and professionalism of Miguel and will recommend his company to anyone who asks for a recommendation.  <br /> My house was built in 1979 so the insulation rating was only R-15.  The drastic increase in the insulation should make a big difference this summer...if and when it gets hot... and of course the heat bill should show some difference too."

"I initially contacted Charlie in June but waited until fall so he could more easily assess my house, as well as our rental house next door. He does a blower door (fan) test for air leakage and also uses infrared to look for heat loss. He has a neat system to check everything, including a form where I listed my areas of special concern. I was lucky to live in one of the areas where Seattle City Light is offering a rebate on energy audits, so my portion was only $95 per house (normally it is $400). <br /> <br /> Charlie emailed me the very detailed reports of the two houses the next day. There is significant work to be done on the crawlspaces, and he provided photos of problem spots and highlighted pipes that needed to be wrapped. Recommendations were exact and the report spells out quite clearly what your energy savings and carbon footprint are currently and what they could be after doing the recommended upgrades. <br /> <br /> What I liked about Charlie is that he took our living conditions/lifestyle into consideration while making his recommendations. For instance, we had taken out insulation in our attic and put down plywood flooring to use the space for storage as well as a play area for our cats. Since it is now essentially a living area, he said we ought to consider the attic as a heated space and should seal it all up (including the venting) and install insulation in the rafters. <br /> <br /> Charlie was punctual, thorough, professional and yet very personable and seems to really care about what he does. Even if you don't qualify for the rebate, his assessment is valuable and highly useful. It gave us a game plan for our energy home improvement projects."

After they came out, it seemed we were probably mistaken about them causing the damage and this was probably an issue from the previous owners.
