"Sooo....first, Jim is a very nice guy.  However, Jim now works in Nashville during the week and is only home to the Huntsville area on the weekends.
My first impression of him was that he was awesome.  My computer system had crashed because I pulled the plug during a thunder storm before the computer fully shut down which resulted in the computer hanging up.  Jim took my call while in Tennessee and suggested how to fix the system.  For this I am very grateful.

What happened next was I had him come and check my computer to make sure everything was working properly.  He came to my house and spent an hour tweaking it (basically running various checks on the system), for which I paid him $50.  He suggested that my laptop would work much better if I had Windows 7 and increased my RAM up to 4 GB.  He said he could install it for me for (including the RAM) for about $160.  We met the following weekend for the handoff and he loaded Window 7.  When I received the call it was ready, the bill was $227.50.  I was surprised that is was $70 more than quoted, but paid it anyways.  When I asked about the RAM, he mentioned he did not upgrade the RAM and this would be another $60.  I was a little discouraged at that point since I felt like I was being taken advantage of, but the guy is relatively nice, so I said to go ahead and order the RAM.  He did so and the following weekend was supposed to install it.  Due to some personal things in his life, he wasn't able to install it, so I picked it up since I had to go out of town and could use the IT guy at my new location to install it for me.  When we went to install the RAM, the system wouldn't let us do it since my particular type of laptop can only take 2GB of RAM max.  If Jim had gone to the crucial.com website (where he bought my RAM) and entered my computer system on it, it would have told him the max amount of RAM that could be installed on that unit.  He did not do that.  He is supposed to refund my $60 this next weekend.

I think if Jim wasn't burning the candle at both ends by having a job in Tennessee during the week and trying to run this business on the weekends, it would've been a better experience.  Perhaps taking a few extra minutes to SLOW DOWN and write out an estimate of everything he would need for the job including the prices would ensure people know up front how much the repair would/should cost so they can budget accordingly.  I think if he had taken that approach, it might've been a better experience.  So now I am stuck with a laptop that runs slower because Windows 7 uses more memory and a laptop that can't be upgraded to more RAM.  Basically, the last step which cost me almost $300 was not necessary.  If you need something simple done like coming back from a system crash, he would be okay to use.  Otherwise, for the bigger jobs, I recommend he provide a written estimate with the items he plans to do.

UPDATE:  After posting this review, I received a number of text messages from Jim commenting on the bad review.  I understand he is upset, but harassing someone about a review is not a good way to go.  My review was honest and not meant to be mean, but to let those that use Angie's list get what they pay for...an honest review of someone's experience."

"Our water was full of iron and left our toilets, showers, sinks, and even parts of washing machine orange. We have been dealing with this issue for many years and were sick of dealing with it. Recently, Bryan at Southeast Plumbing and Gas installed a water filtration system to our existing ( salt) water softener. It’s has been about 2 months now and so far the iron on any surfaces has not returned. Before the new system , the iron would have started to return within a few days. We are very satisfied with this new system so far and are looking forward to no more terrible iron or terrible smell. Our water also had a terrible sulfur , sometimes , metallic smell. Bryan said he could guarantee no iron in water once I had new filtration system installed but could not guarantee the odor would be gone. But he also told us that he felt that once he installed new filtration system that with the carbon filters that most probably the smell would go away or smell better. Well, he was right - the new filters took away the smell too, except in faucets that do not get used daily. Also, he thought he was going to have to add some parts to my system, but after checking my existing system , he told me that my system already had those parts on it-he could save me$200.00. I thanked him for being so honest. He could have pocketed the $200.00 and I wouldn’t have known that my system already had those parts. So he was very honest to tell me that and I really appreciated it!! We are very pleased with our new filtration system. Bryan did a great job and we appreciate all of his efforts to do his best for us to have a water system that gives us fresh smelling - no iron-good water!! He was very kind and respectful. "Mike and Crystal were very professional from the first phone contact through the completion of the work. They showed up on time, their work was neat and they worked very efficiently. My windows were in pretty bad shape. They really took their time and prepped them very well which showed in the finished product. When asked to redo or touch up anything it was done without question. In the end we received a very good paint job on a timely basis and at a competitive price. I have already recommended Mike's Painting to others in my neighborhood and would use him again for future painting needs.

"15 year old gas pack unit had to be replaced.  Called various HVAC dealers and repair most of who did nto call back.  Advanced Systems provided the most reasonable price for a Ruud unit .  Installed new unit.  They were very prompt and have stootd by their services.   Has been over a year and I have been very pleased with unit and service.  Would definitely recommend and would use again for future HVAC needs

"They didn't end up doing the work. They were really high on what they wanted to do. Other people who looked at the porch said that it was not causing an issue with any water intrusion and that there doesn't seem to be any signs on the posts that this could have been recent, it could have been long ago. So no work was done. It was a front porch that had just the level concrete on one side was dipping just a little bit. I think they were going to pump it up from underneath or something like that to level it out. I would say that their response time and their professionalism of getting the quote to us on a timely manner was good. The quote was high and yet the work was not necessary according to other quotes. They should be honest to say when repairs are necessary and when they are not. The guy who showed up was nice and professional and was on time. There was a decent response time."

"New installation went well. I was a little upset that only 50% was covered being that the unit was 19 years old. I'm sure that parts for something that old would be hard to find. Replacement was recommended."

"We've got American Home Shield. So that kinda varies but united air temp has done some work for us. Probably a couple years ago, I think so. I think its two years ago. They did work on our air conditioning. Well you know with American Home Shield you only pay $75.00. You sign up for a year , its like something you subscribe to.  You call and contact American Home Shield and they have somebody contact you whose in line with their services and agrees to work with them. You pay $75.00 and if its not done correctly for each visit but if they come back twice you don't pay again. Its like 400 and something a year. Its fabulous, its fabulous. If you need plumbing , H VAC, lighting, its amazing. Its worth every dime. And if they can't fix it they replace it at no charge unless you want to upgrade There are some different companies but even when we refinanced our house they had us, no we bought another house in Winchester for our son. And they made us have it in with our policy and they use American Home shield. its fabulous and you don't have to do the searching or anything, If you aren't happy you just tell American Home shield. One time United Air Temp tried to talk us into , they did some plumbing work too, and they were going try to talk us into replacing it with a cheap model. That isn't American Home Shield policy its with the same thing or you can pay to upgrade. Pay the balance of an upgrade. We use it all the time. When my son has issues with his house I tell him just call American Home Shield. They guarantee they will be out within 72 hrs but its usually within 24 hours. We contacted them last week about my son's air conditioning. They came out right away, they had to order something. They had to come back out and they did last Wednesday and they fixed it."
