We’ve used John Moore Services for several things in the past three months and once again they did not disappoint. Great customer service, pricing, speed and efficiency in installation! "My AC stopped blowing cold on a Saturday night during a heat wave in Houston. I called Bellaire AC Sunday morning, and Charles came out the same day. He obviously had a lot of calls that day because he arrived around 8:00 p.m. I don't know that most AC technicians would be willing to continue working that late. If he hadn't come I would have checked into a hotel because it was over 85° in my condo at that point. It turned out the condenser fan had stopped working because of a bad capacitor. Charles replaced the capacitor and put in about 3 lb of coolant. Charles is very knowledgeable. As he was working he explained the technical details of how the system works and what he was doing. I will call Bellaire Air Conditioning again the next time I need them, but hopefully that won't be for a long time."

"I have been happily using Colony One Automotive for over 20 years. You may be able to find cheaper mechanics, but you will never find more fair or professional people in the auto repair business. I have recommended friends and family for years and I am proud to recommend Angie's List members as well."

"I highly recommend Matthew and his crew, if you are looking for HVAC work to be done. My wife and I just purchased this house built in 1989. The HVAC configuration in the attic was either original equipment, poorly patched work, or equipment that was not compatible with the new air conditioner. I had gotten in-person estimates from 3 other companies and here's what made me go with South Belt: Matthew understood that my wife and I had a tight budget, so he clearly provided us with what COULD be replaced and what NEEDED to be replaced. Matthew's crew worked fast and were very courteous. Our system now works far better than I expected it would."

"Ray’s team was fantastic. I waited a month to write this review because I wanted to see how the new equipment held up. Everything works great! They managed to get the entire installation done in a single day and completely cleaned up after themselves. I would definitely use them again!"

"Everything went smoothly up until I had a ceiling leak and we found that the condensation line to the other unit was broken during the installation. It was not carelessness but a poor design by the builder of the home. Anyway, they agreed to fix it and the damage it caused, without any need for me to make a lot of noise. My only complaint was that the repair was long and drawn out taking 4 or 5 visits to complete and the repairman was good but never came on schedule."

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Pearland, TX

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
