"Mohammed handled our project—sealing and insulating our attic. He was very knowledgeable about the best way to accomplish the task in an older home such as ours; and he also ensured that our project qualified for relevant energy rebates. He was professional and courteous in answering all our questions and completed the project in one day. We highly recommend HESS and Mohammed El-Goul."

"I contacted Bluestar Air Mechanical for a second opinion after an appointment with Air One. I have a Carrier HVAC system, and the Air One technician recommended a complete system replacement, claiming the blower was bad, the furnace control board needed replacing, and that there were other issues. Since replacing the HVAC is a big investment, I wanted to get a second opinion. It was only after comparing the service from Bluestar that I realized Air One may have been pushing for a new system sale or lacked the expertise to properly diagnose and repair the actual problems. Isaac, the technician from Bluestar, spent about an hour thoroughly diagnosing and fixing the issues. He found burnt wiring in the furnace and discovered that the wrong capacitor had been incorrectly installed in the AC. Isaac replaced the burnt wiring in the furnace and the capacitor in the AC. After these repairs, my Carrier system was back up and running—without the need for a costly replacement. Bluestar, and Isaac in particular, demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and honesty. They focused on resolving the actual issues instead of pushing for an unnecessary system replacement. I highly recommend Bluestar for their reliable service and Isaac’s thorough and knowledgeable work."

"Do NOT recommend ? caused furnace damage and refused responsibility Edge Energy performed an energy audit at our home in January 2025 that resulted in serious damage to our furnace. The auditor failed to turn off the pilot light during testing?something our HVAC technician described as basic ?Furnace 101.? As a result, internal components burned and the furnace became inoperable. We had to pay out of pocket for the replacement part and hire a separate technician to repair the furnace. This left our family without heat for 1.5?2 weeks in January, while we were sick with the flu. During that time, we relied on borrowed space heaters, burned a full cord of firewood, and absorbed significantly higher electricity costs just to keep the house livable. Our total out-of-pocket costs were $3,000. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this directly, Edge Energy has not responded meaningfully and refuses to take responsibility. We are now filing a BBB complaint and pursuing recovery in Small"

"The company deserves 1000 stars l. Chris came and gave a well thorough inspection and estimate of my actic. Had my concerns and expectations, I had several other companies come and give quotes for double the price. Especially ORKIN. Orkin tried to use care tactics to sign contract without any explanation. Chris gave the quote and the crew arrived a week later as scheduled. Chris has a great work crew who were professional , caring, and did high quality work. Every step of the way, I was communicated and was filled in. I was shown before , during and after photos. And end results were UNBELIEVABLE Chris is fair and honest, he gives reasonable prices and will not take advantage of his customers."

"I had a new electrical line I wanted to run for a display light attached to a grandfather clock in our foyer. I also requested a switch be added to our wall panel by the front door to operate it. The job involved seeking a route for running wire behind the ceiling and drywall from our basement to the first floor of the house. The installation was complicated and obviously required a healthy amount of expertise in all respects. The work was accomplished with a minimal amount of mess (two small holes) and the quad switch panel added by our front door operates flawlessly. During the same visit they also replaced four decorative ceiling light fixtures and repaired a bad electrical outlet to boot. The workers were fast, efficient and friendly (even to my dog). I can't say enough about this company to do this justice. Very satisfied with my decision to give them a call."

"I wish I could clone Comfort Solutions for other house-related services. They were truly exceptional. Our AC died the week of July 4. During that holiday week, Comfort was able to provide us with multiple estimates and install the new units. The installers were very professional, efficient, clean, and knowledgeable. They left my house spotless. The customer service rep could not have been more friendly and patient. I highly recommend this company and glad I found it in my neighborhood listserv."

"I used this company to perform a home inspection before I bought my house. Due to its negligence and breach of contract, 9 months after I moved in, I had to replace the roof on the house. The company will do nothing to rectify the situation. They are cheats and liars that hide behind their contracts. Their inspectors take every shortcut, and they will not protect you during the home buying process. Just don’t use them."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Fort Washington, MD

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
