"Why did I get an Energy Audit. So I could make informed decisions about how best to cut my energy bill for a tight budget. For me that was sealing up little cracks around light switches and bathroom fans. $50 of calking and foam. I estimated everything to an 8" x 8" opening. Two hours of work and it's like I closed a window that was opened a couple inches. For the next step It turns out I have plenty of insulation in my attic. It's just not installed correctly, hopefully I can do it myself or get a handyman to do it for a couple hundred dollars."

"Bill went above and beyond in explaining what needed to be done, how it was going to be done, and how it would affect my heating and cooling as well as my energy bill. Bill answered all my questions as well as explained everything in detail.
Whenever I do any type of home-improvement, I research 3 to 4 companies/contractors... Today's Energy Store went above and beyond, and I would definitely use them again."

"The installers were top notch. They did a fantastic job which is the reason why I would recommend Summerlin Energy. The office staff though was terrible. They did not provide any information to me unless I asked for it which I needed to do a few times. I need to add some information which I think is important. I knew the "Salesman" for two years. I informed him a while ago that I was going to install a solar system but needed some more time. During this period I would get phone calls from him to see how I was doing. I would mention that nothing had changed and that I would contact him as soon as I was ready. This went on for app. two years. I finally contacted him and he came over and provided me with the system I needed. I signed the contract and looked forward for the installation to begin. I never received any calls or e-mails so I called him. Most of the time he wasn't there. To make a long story short I finally did get in contact with him and he gave me a date. He mentioned that they had been waiting on parts. He did not tell me this until I asked him what was going on. My "salesman" was extremely unprofessional. Once I signed the contract he disappeared and I had to call the office to find out everything. I felt like I was annoying them but unless I called I heard nothing. Mistakes were made by the office on what was being installed and I had to remind them to correct it. I did not get all of the paperwork back when the job was completed and had to request it. Not once did I get any calls from the office on anything. I had to call them and that sometimes required more then one call.
I was told that they were busy which caused some of the issues. I do not accept that. They salesman should have assigned someone to be my contact from the start. Someone was finally assigned to me once the job was done. How appropriate. As I said above, the installers were great and that is the only reason why I would recommend them. Just be aware of the office. Make sure you have a salesman who will contact you with all the information without you having to constantly call them.

"These guys define good customer service!  Both Michael and Stephen both clearly have huge interests in seeing their company do well, as well as huge interests in delivering quality products/services. It's refreshing to see the owners of a company getting dirty with their employees, overseeing the install jobs to ensure quality, and to give peace of mind to customers.  Additionally, they came back to the house about a week after install to perform a full QC check of the entire system... we needed an additional vent tube installed for a room that didn't get proper air so they came back without hesitation to make the system run efficiently - That's how it should be done!  I would say these guys, their employees, and this company as a whole are the exception to the modern rule of mediocre customer service.  Good work!

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Jean, NV

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
