"This is the best home repair experience we have ever had. We were very pleased with how everything went from start to finish. These are very knowledgeable people. They are friendly yet clearly on a mission to get the job done right and not waste time. The front door is already proving to be efficient and we are looking forward to a much more comfortable house this winter. Thanks for a job well done. We are very appreciative of the quality of your work and professional way of doing business."

"Excellent. Mr. Lowry is very knowledgable and professional. Easy to talk to and ask questions. <br /> Our new house is very cold, and we are refilling our oil tank frequently. He went from basement to attic, inspecting the mechanicals, duct work, and insulation. Used infrared and did blower door test. Helped us solve a potentially dangerous situation with our outdoor AC compressor. <br /> In about 1 week, he provides a comprehensive home energy audit report, with point by point recommendations for improvement (including cost estimate), and his short list of recommended contractors. We will be contacting the contractors soon for estimates. <br /> We also employed his expertise in our prior home a few years ago. After following his recommendations, our home energy use became dramatically more efficient, and cut our monthly oil bill nearly in half. <br /> enthusiastically recommended. No reservations whatsoever. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"My home's electric bills were through the roof. They came and did an energy analysis then installed insulation. I would use them again and recommend them. They were really professional and nice in dealing with my wife. I have been able to contact them since for advice."

"We had PECO come out and do an energy audit and they had Green Stone Energy in their list of recommended contractors. We followed the PECO recommendations and discounts but also added other items. Crew arrived on time and were at our house for about 10 hours. They tried their best to keep areas as clean as possible and communicated well. After spraying insulation into the garage ceiling they attempted to get all the drywall back and spackle but as explained in the work proposal I will have to do significant work to smooth out the ceiling and get it looking back to how it started. They performed a blower test before and after the work and found that the insulation decreased the air flow by 16%. This has definitely translated to an improvement in the temperatures in our upstairs and we were able to significantly reduce the amount of time our heat was running over the passed few months. Unfortunately, the work we did below our kitchen floor does not seem to have been effective but the other benefits were well worth it. We would definitely recommend Green Stone Energy and use them again if we had more work to do."

"earlier this year I had my entire heating system replaced. The gentlemen were very professional and very organized and quick. They were very thorough in explaining the heating unit along with showing me when the chimney needed to be updated and cleaned. They are very flexible with scheduling and changing appointments."

"I have lived in my house for two years, and have had problems with rooms that wouldn't get cool in the summer (despite central air conditioning), or stay warm in the winter. I had to move my bedroom after the first summer and winter, and could not comfortably sit for long in my living room. I replaced all my windows with triple paned ones in March 2020, which made little difference. I had PECO do an energy assessment of my home last spring. Home Energy & Comfort was on PECO's list of recommended contractors. I researched them further, and their reviews were impressive. I soon found out why. Gordon Clark, one of the co-owners, and a crew of three to four workers spent two days at my home in early June 2020. To make a long story short, they insulated everywhere that needed it (including the garage which is underneath my living room), air sealed gaps and cracks where needed, sealed up ducts, spray foamed rim and band-joist area, and did air seal blowing tests before and after the work. The team was always polite and respectful, and masked due to the Coronavirus. They protected everywhere they worked with plastic sheets and tarps, and cleaned up well afterward. They also did all the work to submit paperwork for rebates from PECO, and deducted the rebate amounts from my bill rather than have me wait for them. This has honestly been the best money I have invested in my home. The hot days have shown me the vast improvement in energy efficiency. I was able to move my bedroom back to the bigger room in the southwest corner, which is now very comfortable. An added bonus is the reduction of dust in my home. I am very happy I chose Home Energy & Comfort to do the work in my home!"

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Malvern, PA

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
