"Great experience getting windows installed by American Home Renewal. First contact was 6 months ago. I slept on it for a few months and got some other quotes. Chris was friendly as a sales man, Gave me a competitive price and some pointers on fiberglass vs vinyl. I went with Vinyl. Alex was the installer and was very detailed in explaining the install process. He explained everything in detail to me and showed me tips on how to do a proper install. We did a mix of new construction and retrofit. we added window casings and he was very thorough and asked multiple questions on how I wanted the casings to look. only hiccup was one of the windows was ordered wrong. we couldn't determine where the mixup occurred but they immediately took full ownership and reordered me a new window to the specs I wanted. I would highly recommend."

"All of our windows and sliding doors probably dated back to when the townhome was built in the 70's. They were single pane and didn't work very well. Five star windows did an excellent job on the install.  I would recommend the quality of their product and install to anyone.
One of the reasons for the expense is the HOA does not allow one to just replace windows, you have to go back into the stucco and re-frame the windows. Several people have told me that not only is this the right way to do it, it saves aggravation later on because since the window is into the frame of the building itself, there are no issues with settling.
The only issue we had is that someone forgot to pull a permit with the city of Saratoga and the inspector showed up for the pre-closing inspection and shut them down until they pulled the permit. This is a contractor who had just done over a dozen installations in our complex; they should know better. The result was a little bit of nail-biting on our part as this was just before thanksgiving and we had scheduled cleaners, handymen, etc in anticipation of their completion date.  As it was, they did complete it two days behind schedule so everything worked out OK"

"In addition to replacing all our windows in the house, we were starting a kitchen and masterbath remodel.  The timing of the window install was crucial to coordinate with the remodel.  We also wanted year end pricing, which was a substantial savings.  We interviewed two companies and chose SGK. We would have interviewed a third company to be thorough, but it was impossible to find another company that did new construction installation that fit our time line.  Rob Rowe (our salesperson) is an up front and "real" person.  Did not come across as a salesman or try to up sell us like the other company's representative.  The price was $8000 less than the other company for comparable windows (Anlin windows) and same type of installation.  

Our goal was to have all the windows installed before our remodel started, but the installation date was delayed due to the rain.  We were in contact with Deanne (not sure her actual title) at SGK many times to coordinate the installation and she spoke with our contractor to make sure the kitchen window was installed at the right time.  In fact, SGK installed the kitchen and bath windows earlier than the other windows to coordinate with the demo.  

This was the only real hiccup we had with the installation.  When the bathroom windows were installed, the edge of the window and sills were cut back too far due to something with the flange (sp?) nails.  This left a large gap between the window and the wood window sill.  A couple of the gaps were filled with caulking and another left with the large gap.  After discussion that this was not acceptable, a total of 3 window sills had to be replaced.  They now look good.  My take on this incident is that there was a lack of communication of why there were gaps when the windows were cut and it was not adequately communicated to us that the sills would be replaced at a later date (when the other windows were installed).  There Quality Control person (Edward) was called in right away and he came by the house multiple times  to ensure the installation was all done to our satisfaction.  The foreman on the job was Francisco.  Another worker named Manny was also very instrumental in making sure I was happy with the outcome.  
   
I was assured that this would not happen moving forward and all the remaining windows were installed without incident. We are having to do some minor paint touch up around most of the windows since caulking is used around the drywall and sills. The windows are beautiful (as much as vinyl can be) and the wood trim that was all replaced looks great.  It is primed and we still need to have it painted.  The old windows had condensation and were drafty.  The new windows have no draft and the house is noticeably warmer.  All our neighbors are commenting on our new windows.

That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. "The complete job was done in two days. The workers drove from Patterson to Soquel (two plus hours), arrived on schedule at 8:00 AM the first day and 7:30 AM the second day. They covered all furniture, walls, floors, sidewalk and driveway out to their truck. Our responsibility consisted of removing ceiling light fixtures, smoke detectors, curtains within 6" of the ceiling and putting away small items so they would not get broken. The first day they removed the popcorn, did repairs and textured the ceilings. They left the heat on overnight to dry the texture and painted the second day. At the end of the job they cleaned everything, including vacuuming the whole house."

"The initial visit was productive - they took measurements, we discussed the window options, and they were willing to honor the commitment I had received on the phone prior to purchasing the Big Deal that the deal included a certain type of glass, even though according to the field sales rep this was not supposed to be part of the deal. They came and performed the work a few weeks later. At one point as I was watching I had to remind the installer that he should seal up under the window frame with caulk, or else and water that got in wouldn't drain out. He said "oh yeah" and then did it the right way but it was a little disconcerting. The windows have performed well and look pretty nice, except for a minor issue with this one 2" strip of vinyl that they attach with adhesive over the gap on the inside between the frame and the wall and then caulk - the caulking job is not super pretty and the strip itself is coming unglued from the window frame. I've called twice and left messages about having them come to fix it and have not gotten a call back. I will try again, and if they are still not responsive I will consider lowering my rating. Overall, the sales force gets an A and the installers a B or C for an overall B.
