"We found HESS through Pepco's Home Performance energy savings program. Mohammed was responsive, arrived on time for the audit, and made sure to ask about any comfort issues we were having. After the audit, he took us through everything he found and made recommendations based on both energy savings and the comfort issues we discussed. He answered all my questions (and I had a lot), and explained in detail exactly what work he was suggested. When it came time for the actual work, it turned out to be a little more involved than expected, but they still managed to get it done in a day. Again Mohammed walked me through all the work that was done and answered all my questions. We haven't had a chance to test out the new insulation in the winter, but so far our upstairs is maintaining a much more uniform temperature and the A/C has definitely not been working as hard. Prior to the insulation we had a room that was 4-5 degrees hotter or colder than the rest of the upstairs depending on the season. Mohammed has also made the Pepco rebate process easy to manage so far, and his estimate was within 3% of the final rebate we will receive. I've been incredibly impressed with his communication throughout the whole process and would recommend HESS for any energy saving or comfort issues with your home."

"Edge Energy did an energy audit for us, then sealed the house, installed a new roof with excellent insulation, and an ERV fan to ensure fresh air. They were a delight to work with throughout, very friendly and professional. We needed some follow up work due to quirks in the house, not bad work by Edge, and they did it promptly and without charge. I couldn't recommend them more highly."

"Superb service by Relax Air!! I contacted Kamal for a second opinion after a different HVAC company quoted me a very large number for repair of capacitor and fan motor. My home in Ashburn is rented out and my tenants needed AC quickly. Kamal was extremely knowledgeable, polite, caring and professional. He came out the same day to repair the unit. His honesty is greatly appreciated. He discovered that there was nothing wrong with my fan motor (!!) and only my capacitor needed replacing. He cleaned and straightened the unit and saved me a very large sum of money. Great job Kamal, I would highly recommend your services to anyone. Thank you again."

"Bluestar was extremely responsive to our initial inquiry. A representative came to our home to discuss our needs and to offer alternatives. We reviewed a range of options and the pros and cons of various models specific to our townhouse. Once we zeroed in on equipment choices, we compared their upfront cost estimate with other vendors' options and found Bluestar's estimate to not only be lower than other comparative quotes, but the equipment grades & ratings were higher, and the available installation date much sooner than anyone else. We chose Bluestar and they followed up right on schedule. The installation crew was top-notch, the equipment was installed very professionally, and everything was thoroughly tested before job completion. Throughout the process the technicians explained what they were doing, how the equipment functioned, what minor modifications they were making to ductwork in the furnace area and why, and they answered every other question we had. There were no "surprise" cost increases due to the actual installation work. They stayed true to their original estimate. We're very pleased with the outcome and would highly recommend Bluestar as a trustworthy HVAC business."

"The only thing that made me give them a 4.0 is the service rep did not let us know, when he did the inspection, that there was debris underneath where they needed to lay the cover. Unfortunately, the team that came out could not lay the cover under the main part of the house. Now we will have to reschedule. Everyone was really nice, even the sales rep. Just would like to have been informed that there was debris that needed to be moved so the job could be completed."

"I had a wonderful experience with Founders Insulation. They were extremely easy to work with. It was easy to schedule an appointment, the gentleman who came out was knowledgeable and polite, and I felt that I received good information and they did not try to sell me something I did not need. Their quote was excellent. The work was scheduled and completed quickly. The installation team was courtesy, thorough, and knew their stuff. They were respectful of my home and went above and beyond. I highly recommend this company."

"Summary: The Comfy team did a great job b/c they know what they are doing however, they are not without faults. Work Completed: Full crawlspace escalation and turning a vented attic into an unvented attic by adding CC spray from on the roof deck. Time frame: July 13-17 2020 Results: We are only a month out from the work being completed, so the analysis is on-going but here are the numbers so far. My Aug electricity bill was down 26% in real dollars from July. That reduction is in spite of the fact that Aug had a 31% higher average Cooling Degree Days (base Temp 70F - https://www.degreedays.net/-). In addition, the first week of my Aug billing cycle included this work. Again, this is very early on but that is a promising start. Other benefits include less variability in house temperature. Before I would see a temperature difference of 5 degrees Fahrenheit between my bottom and top floors. Now they are no more than 1.5 degrees apart (the thermostat is on the lowest level). This creates an overall more pleasant living environment. So while Iâ m looking at a return on investment that stretches out past 10 years, during that time itâ ll be a more comfortable home to live in. Challenges: My only complaint is that there doesnâ t seem to be a solid quality control program. To be fair, I have high standards of work quality. Especially when Iâ m paying for it. Comfy clearly understands the science and best practices. Itâ s always a challenge translating that over to the real world, which is messy. With that said I felt like I was the one that had to be pointing out the areas of poor workmanship. It sure would have been nice to feel like that quality control was being done for me. Now for the good news, Comfy is correcting all the issues I have pointed out (scheduled but not all completed). Bottom Line: Comfy has a talented team of people, who know the work. They will do a good job at a fair price. But donâ t let the sleek marketing and science lull you into a false sense of security, make sure you get what you paid for."

"Not inexpensive, but worth the cost for energy savings and efficiency. We had received a much higher bid from another company, and were glad we chose Comfenergy. The technician was very knowledgeable and we felt a great difference in our upstair master bed and bath which were uncomfortably warm prior to the improvements. Also nice now to have "green" home for resale."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Purcellville, VA

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
