We talked about the cost of replacing the motor vs. the cost of replacing the A/C unit entirely (it's 14 years old). "The company was very responsive via email to supply information on the various options for a new thermostat. I was most interested in a web-enabled model. Installation was smooth and easy, though the technician showed up at my house without the required hardware and had to wait for someone to deliver it to him. They also came one hour later than scheduled, causing me to miss more work than I should have. I called about 15 minutes after the appointment time and was told that they they always call the customer while on the way, but that was not told to me when I scheduled the appointment. I set a time, not a range.
I have subsequently learned that if I had purchased this thermostat myself and then called the company only to install it, the price may have been as much as $200 difference. So their markup is absurdly high. Lesson learned.

When it was determined that the 20+ year old heater needed to be replaced, the replacement ordered, on-site, and installed by Wednesday morning. I am glad that we opted for the Choice Ultimate plan as other than the initial $65 service fee, all but one $50 ancillary expense was covered."

"I bought an Angie's List Deal, $99 for 4 hours of handyman service. Alberto showed up right on time and was very friendly and knowledgeable. He installed a kitchen ceiling fan/light fixture, two wall light fixtures, an outdoor light fixture, and replaced multiple broken outlets and light switches. I have an old house which made some of the work more complicated, but Alberto had all the right tools and materials and just took care of it. It feels great to have all those things crossed off my to do list, and for $99 no less!"

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."
