"A quality UES co-op renovation on-time and on-budget? It's true. Spencer was on top of everything. He helped with the design details, made suggestions when we were unsure, and went above and beyond to make sure our new home turned out great. He was in constant communication, sorted the inevitable hiccups, and gave us peace of mind knowing we were in good hands. He and his crew care about the work they're doing, which takes out so much stress from the project. Even our building staff commented that they were uncommonly great to work with. Honestly, though, the highest praise I can possibly give the team at Modo is the fact that I immediately re-hired them to spruce up our old apartment as we list it for sale. Scope: remove/add interior walls, install/stain new hardwood floors to match existing flooring, replace kitchen sinks/counters/backsplash, install appliances, outfit 6 custom closets, add built-in cabinets to living room, build custom mantel for fireplace, and repaint whole apt"

"Architecture drawings for a minor remodel were done on time and on budget. The town asked for one update to the drawings and Talo Architect made the update promptly. This update required consulting a licensed engineer. Talo was able to get input from an engineer and update the drawings accordingly very quickly. Talo is a very competent architect. He keeps abreast with the latest building and energy saving techniques by attending training and seminars. I had a great conversation with him about above-sheathing roof insulation - a technique that is highly recommended by building science professionals but not known to many architects and roofing companies. He is also very familiar with net-zero (or near-net-zero) home remodeling. I highly recommend Talo Architect."

HomeAdvisor makes it easy to connect with pros near you. You can read reviews, get quotes and book appointments all in one place.
Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
Scarsdale Addition & Remodeling Contractors are rated 4.9 out of 5 based on 164 reviews of 164 pros.
