"I participated in Dominion's Energy Efficiency Rebate program, which NRG Masters (dba Northcoast Energy Masters) is a participating contractor. Of the three quotes received, NRG Masters and one other contractor were competitively priced. However that other contractor do not spray foam gaps in basement. NRG Master crew arrived on time on scheduled date, they properly sealed the attic entrance so the cellulose does not blow throughout the house and to keep my pets from going upstairs. Wall insulation was performed outside, where they removed the siding, blew in cellulose into the wall and ,closed the opening and reinstalled the removed siding. They spray foamed rim joists all around the basement perimeter and a big gap where the kitchen bumped out, such that one of my cats tend to climb into and where she cannot be reached. They insulated it and closed it with dry wall so my cat can no longer go in. The crew cleaned up the work areas, They vacuum the attic, and cleaned up the basement area, though they missed some of the small spray foam drippings, which were easily removed on the concrete ground, which I believed to be not an issue. A week later I opened the attic storage area, some of the cellulose blew in. I had to followed up multiple times with e-mails and phone calls to get a return call and schedule a follow up to fix the problem. Ray said the cellulose blowing in is from the gable vent, which may have been overstuffed with cellulose. A month later, the crew came back to clean up the cellulose. Months later, I followed up with another energy audit from Dominion's program. I learned the home energy efficiency for my house improved from 2800 (before the insulation work) CFM50 (blow door test) to 2100 as proposed by NRG Master. I, also, followed up with Dominion regarding the status of my rebate, and I learned that Ray did not submit the paper work required for the rebate. I followed up with multiple calls and e-mails. At the same time Dominion representatives also reached out to him. A few weeks later, I learned that Dominion did speak with Ray and he submitted the necessary paper work, and a month later, I did get my rebate check. The slow responsiveness received from NRG Master may be attributed to their busy schedule, I had to wait about one month and half before they could perform the work at my house, so it is understandable that arising issues and filing paper work can fall to the side, though not acceptable from a customer perspective."

"Insulation Systems is the most professional home improvement company we have ever worked with. We appreciated the skills, knowledge, neatness and extra efforts by the entire installation crew. They removed the 50-year-old insulation in the attic and above the garage, installed sheet and blown-in insulation, and created vents in the attic walls. They insulated a 20x20 foot area under the kitchen/dining room addition which had no insulation using foam to seal and applying an insulating liner on the ground."

"I had an Energy audit performed on my house. The equipment used during the audit and the knowledge of the auditor was good. However, the report was useless. I was employed as a Quality Manager / Quality Engineer for over 35 years and I have performed numerous audits. And without a doubt, the auditors should used a recorder to propely document the results of the audit. Some of the things that should be in th report are, the significant areas of heat loss in each room, (including loacation of the heat losses), potential savings for reducing the major area of heat loss, the temperature difference incoming outside air and room temperature."

"Wonderful, it was a very quick and easy process. Brian talked us through it and in no time we had a 3KW system mounted on a frame in the garden and the invertor installed in the basement. Brian talked us through working with our power company to get the system checked and approved and we now get credits from the power company for power we provide to the grid. In addition we are set up to get Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) payments for providing clean energy. We also got a free Energy Audit which helped locate some problems areas we were able to fix. The system has basically cut our energy costs in half. I have hesitation in recommending them to anyone interested in solar energy."

"It was excellent. They gave me a bid and it was excellent. They had to install a new furnace flue because of the conflicting unit with the existing gas water heater. That was quite an extensive job because of the gable on the high-pitched roof we have on the house. They were excellent in getting up there to do everything they needed to do. They installed the unit in one day and took out the old unit. I was very satisfied with their service and the price and their follow up. I would absolutely use them again."

"An attic inspection was performed by Jim M.  He explained what the inspection would entail before beginning the inspection.  After the inspection, he showed us some pictures he took during the inspection of the attic insulation and bathroom fan venting (two areas that he recommend we address).
We had a flying squirrel take up residence in our attic about a year ago and the pics showed evidence of how the squirrel entered our home and where she nested.  He looked for wiring damage from the "visitor" and said he did not see evidence of wire chewing. He explained the difference in insulation r-ratings between when our home was built (mid-80s) and what it is today and recommended we have  more insulation blown-in.  We followed-up our attic inspection by North Coast Insulation  with a complete home energy audit by GoodCents, a contractor with Dominion East Ohio Gas.
The subsequent GoodCents inspection confirmed that our attic insulation was deficient by current r-rating standards; however, the overall efficiency rating of our home was within the "good" range.  As the GoodCents inspection was an overall home energy audit, the GoodCents inspector also assessed our basement and found that a crawl space under a newer addition to our home or did not have any wall insulation.  He  recommended that we have the crawl space insulated as that would improve our overall home energy efficiency.

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Solon, OH

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
