After install there were some minor issues with unit as first year products have. Ryan expedited service of unit and had it operational. And itâ s been running flawlessly ever since. I highly recommend using them and Iâ ve been in the service business for 30+ years and know both good and badâ ¦ they are good! *Side note: Ct rebate program not that good. "Issue with Bell Mechanical This past August of 2024 we had a heat pump system installed in the house by Bell Mechanical. Unfortunately, we have had nothing but issues since with the biggest being no heat multiple times and now again today we are without heat in the majority of our house. It is freezing outside, we have a toddler and within the past week this is the 2nd time we have no heat (4th time since the system was put in). Not only is this a life safety issue, but it also is heart breaking to have your toddler tell you they are freezing. Looking for advice on next steps. We have never sued anyone or threatened to sue but this may be the time as we have had nothing but issues since the beginning. From the start we made it very clear that everything needed to be done to code and permitted. We were doing a lot of major renovations at our house and everything was being done to code and permitted. John (the salesman) at Bell said that was not a problem. John also told us that the only additional cost we could potentially incur outside of what he quoted us for the system and its installation would be a $500 fee for the installation of the heat strip. We accepted this and moved forward. After Bell removed our central air system and installed the new carrier system we got his with additional work needed at the tune of over 2k. Needless to say we were not happy. John told us the electrician they use and that if we used that electrician there would be no delay but if we used ours that it would cause a delay. So, we went with what John said as he was the expert. John got the electrician to come down a little in price which we were grateful for. Fast forward to when the building inspector came out to close out the permits for the work Bell did and other work being done at the house, the inspector told my contractor that the heat pump was not done to code. We were told that the electrical for it was not done to code and he could not close out the permit. My husband talked to the electrician Bell gave us who informed us that Bell told him to “cut corners” which was part of getting the cost down slightly. Reminder, we NEVER said to do this, we made it clear that everything needed to be permitted and even paid the permit fees to Bell. Back and forth with Bell and the electrician got the electrician to fix his work at no additional cost but Bell still needed to fix the outside plug which was not to code. Giovanni at Bell agreed that Bell would fix this issue at no additional cost. It has been 3 months now and Bell has still not rectified this issue and Giovanni and John are both nonresponsive to our follow-ups. Bell has also had to come out 4 additional times because our system was not working and again today, we have no heat. Today will be the 5th time they have to come out for issues on a system that is 4 months old. This is not OK. We have given Bell ample time to rectify the issues. Clearly they did not do the install properly and there is also the possibility we have a faulty system. We have never sued someone or went to court but then again, we have never had such large and costly issues."

Heat pump installations and replacements FAQs
Heat pumps rely on evaporation and condensation processes. The unit transfers heat through the system via a compressed refrigerant. The compressor within the pump circulates the refrigerant through two coils. The first coil evaporates the refrigerant and absorbs warmth from the air. The refrigerant then passes to the second coil, where it condenses, and the unit releases the absorbed heat.
A well-installed and well-maintained heat pump lasts an average of 12 to 20 years. Routine filter changes, annual tune‑ups, and prompt repairs help the equipment reach the upper end of that range, while skipped maintenance or poor installation can shorten its life and raise long‑term costs. Ask your heat pump installation pro for maintenance recommendations so you can get the maximum benefit from your unit.
Heat pumps are most effective in regions where winter lows remain above approximately 40°F. Efficiency starts to drop below that point and falls off sharply near 25°F. If you live in a colder area, look for a model with a high Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) and plan on supplemental heat during deep freezes to keep energy use in check.
The biggest drawbacks are the upfront cost and poor cold-weather performance. Installation can require electrical upgrades or duct changes, and once temperatures fall well below freezing, the unit may need help from a furnace or electric resistance coils. Factor in those add‑ons, along with routine maintenance, when you weigh the long‑term savings against the initial investment.
