"I was having an issue with my vehicle starting. Apparently it went into theft mode and wouldn't crank over. Levi with Barger Professional Safe and Lock called me with in 10 minutes. I told him what was happening and he took the time to help me get my truck started. I'm glad he was the one to call me and help me. I would definitely recommend Barger Professional Safe and Lock to my friends and family. If I ever have an issue like this again I'm definitely calling him. Thank you so much sir."

"Barry was able to work on the doors in our house within a week of my initial call. Total cost for installing hardware and rekeying all the locks to match was $317. I did buy the lock sets myself (additional cost to Barry's charge) at his recommendation to get the job done faster without having to order any locks. Barry stayed till the job was done. I really appreciate his time and ability to help us so quickly."

"These guys were very good! 12/23/22, the coldest & windiest day of this year, temps below 0, a friend locks himself out of his running van! Another company was going to charge $200 & take 1.5 hours and expected me, a 70 yo man, to go out in this because they wouldn't take my CC over the phone! So, I called a couple other places. One didn't answer, one said that they don't service Indy, even though they advertise & have a phone # here, so I saw Unlock Indy. Called them, the dispatcher was courtious & said the cost would be $100 AND he'd have a guy out in 30 minutes! I didn't catch his name or the smith's name, but the smith called me to confirm the address and confirm time of arrival. Was there quickly, located the friend & van, took care of all of the issue, called me and we confirmed CC number and ALL was done! Wonderful, helpful people! Will call them again when I need lock help!!! THANKY YOU for being people-oriented and great at what you're doing!"

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Indianapolis, IN

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
