"I had called 2 other companies and waited over 3 hours and never got a phone call. 1 call to LOCKAL and I got a swift response with an accurate time to arrival. He explained an issue with my lock but had a solution anyway. Within maybe 30 seconds he had my door unlocked. He was very friendly and helpful. Iâ m terrible at names so I forget his name but I think it started with an A. Fantastic and quick service. 10/10 would highly recommend for locksmithing needs."

"I called on a Friday, and Barry came out on Saturday to fix our sliding glass door lock. It was to the point where it wouldn't lock at all anymore. He fixed it quickly, and now--finally, after 10 years of struggling with that thing--it's perfect! Wish I'd called him a long time ago. <br /> Looking over the reviews for all the A-rated locksmith companies, it seemed to me that Barry had the best prices around, and that those low prices weren't at all hurting the quality of work he does. For this type of work, I also preferred a one-man operation to the companies that consist of several employees, wherein you don't know who you will get or how much experience they've had, or whether they are trustworthy enough to be dealing with the security of your home in the first place. After checking out Alticlock.com, the decision was clear. <br /> We were thrilled with the work, the price, everything. Will definitely use him again in the future! <br />"

"<p>I had searched Angie's List for a Locksmith to come over and rekey our newly bought house. I did try a few different companies, but none of them could get me in around a time/date that would work around my work schedule. I called Unlock Indy and Kory answered on a Saturday. He asked some questions about the types of locks we had, how they looked, how many we needed done, and a few other questions. Kory said he could be down that day to do the rekey. When he got there he was quick to get things done. He had a friend that came down with him to help as well. Kory sent his friend to get a couple of parts needed to complete the job. Kory stayed and kept working to get the locks changed and ready for when his friend got there. </p> <p><br />Kory was quick, efficient, friendly, and got us done almost immediately after the call. He was even cheaper than we thought it would be. I would suggest using him if you are looking for a locksmith. I would also use him again in the future. </p> <p><br /></p> <p>Thanks for the great job! </p> <br />"

"I locked myself out of my house when I walked my son to his bus stop. I went to a neighbor's and tried calling locksmiths. The first didn't answer, the second had a doctor appointment and couldn't come today, the third never called me back from the page his office sent him. I called Barker's and they came out very promptly. He had me back in my house within 5 minutes. He understood my frustration and was very responsive. He called en route to let me know that he was on his way. <br />"

"The owner called me back promptly after I left a message. He was concerned that I was locked out of the house. I wasn't, as I could get in and out through the garage. He had a few people before me, but said he could be here by noon. I ended up not using him because another local locksmith was able to come out a few hours earlier, which meant I would miss less work. I think this company would have been a good choice."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Indianapolis, IN

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
