"I would definately use them again for any Locksmith needs. They are one of the few on the list that were willing to drive to Racine to do the job. Any Todd was very professional, flexible, and completed the job for a very solid price. I would not think twice about using the company again."

"After a frustrating experience with a couple of other locksmiths, Steve (1/2 of the Stevlin team) arrived within hours of my call. The original deadbolt was 40 years old and a replacement could not be had at the local hardware stores. Thankfully, Stevlin's has a wonderful inventory for all parts necessary. He was very professional, worked quickly and was lovely to converse with. I'm well aware of the locksmith boiler room providers where the individual is not actually a locally-owned business. I was so pleased to be able to find Stevlin's and will absolutely use them over and over and over again in the future as well as recommend them highly."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Milwaukee, WI

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
